HTC Sensation Ice Cream Sandwich update is now live in parts of Europe

HTC Sensation Ice Cream Sandwich update is now live in parts of Europe

Posted on Mar 12, 2012 by MG1

Reports from around the web suggest some HTC Sensation users in Europe have started getting their serving of Ice Cream Sandwich. While we don’t see the pattern HTC is using to rollout the new firmware, it is clear that at first only folks with unlocked devices are getting Android 4.0.3.
The Taiwanese company is strangely quiet (for such a big news), so we keep listening to other people and their reactions. As far as we’ve understood, alongside Ice Cream Sandwich, HTC is also pushing updated version (3.6) of its Sense UI.

Original HTC Magic available on Canada's Rogers for $25.48/month on 1-year contract

Original HTC Magic available on Canada's Rogers for $25.48/month on 1-year contract

Posted on Mar 09, 2012 by MG1

Check this out. Canada’s Rogers Wireless is offering the original HTC Magic to its customers. This is a limited time offer, since only few of these will be offered to hard-core Android fanboys. I can’t imagine anyone wishing a 3-year old device these days, but what do I know. This could easily be a memorabilia item.
I’m not sure which version of Android this baby runs, but I would assume it doesn’t go beyond 2.1 Éclair.
On a sidenote, we must add that HTC has come a long way from Magic, with their modern smartphones looking way, way better. Just take a look at their new One models – all of them look fantastic, or at least I think so.
Anyway, you can check out Rogers’ HTC Magic offer from her...

Aside from new phones, HTC also used Mobile World Congress to unveil new APIs, part of its HTC OpenSense SDK. The new set of developer tools includes Beats Audio API, Lockscreen API, Mobile Device Management API and soon a HTC MediaLink HD API — using which developers are able to enhance the audio experience of their apps, integrate access to an app from the HTC lock screen, and/or enable their app to take advantage of dual screen capabilities using Wireless HDMI.

The rumor is that Verizon Wireless will be introducing the next Droid Incredible device on April 26th. Dubbed Droid Incredible 4G, it will most certainly come with LTE connectivity support along with all other Ice Cream Sandwich goodies, such as a solid screen (720p?), Wi-Fi, two cameras, Bluetooth, an array of sensors and most likely a ton of built-in storage.

Deja-Vu: Prototype HTC phone left at bar

Deja-Vu: Prototype HTC phone left at bar

Posted on Mar 02, 2012 by MG1

Filed in: Cell PhonesHTC

Obviously there’s something about bars that lead us to discover new phones. Could it be that handset testers get drunk enough to forget that the device is supposed to be incognito? Whatever the case, first it was an iPhone, but now it’s a prototype HTC phone that was left in a bar and now found.
Droid-Life snatched this never-before-seen device up in San Francisco. It has that signature HTC look to it — metal case, large wide speaker at the very top, and front-facing camera positioned to the right — and seems similar to the Droid Incredible 2 more than anything else. Oddly though, it has a semi-transparent backing, allowing one to vaguely make out its internals. Hopefully that’s just part of...

Sprint to pick up HTC One X as the EVO HD LTE?

Sprint to pick up HTC One X as the EVO HD LTE?

Posted on Feb 29, 2012 by MG1

If rumors are to be believed, HTC's next flagship device for Sprint is code-named the HTC Jewel and will be a CDMA/LTE variant of the HTC One X. HTC and Sprint have gone on the record about the EVO name spanning many devices, and so far we have had the EVO 4G, the EVO Shift 4G, EVO 3D, EVO View 4G and the EVO Design 4G. As the flagship EVO 3D nears its first birthday we would expect to see another flagship EVO launched, and with HTC simplifying their product line the One X would be a viable candidate.
The HTC EVO HD LTE has been thrown out as a name for the rumored device, but since we don't know that it even exists that is subject to change. What we can reasonably assume is that- like AT...

HTC One V: The Legend resurrected

HTC One V: The Legend resurrected

Posted on Feb 27, 2012 by MG1

Last – and maybe least – in HTC’s new portfolio of Android phones announced at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona today is the HTC One V, or the HTC Legend 2 in all but name.
Android fans will recall the first HTC Legend was launched at this very same expo two years ago, and turned heads with its marvellous design. Using a unibody design first pioneered by Apple in its MacBook Pro laptops, the machined aluminium premise translated perfectly to mobile. We called it an iPhone beater.

HTC One X and One S captured in the wild

HTC One X and One S captured in the wild

Posted on Feb 27, 2012 by MG3

This week we’re more than pumped up to check out HTC’s offering next week at Mobile World Congress 2012, and it appears that the folks at IT Pro Portal have had a stroke of luck seeing the first device in HTC’s lineup for themselves. What you’re looking at appears to be what many are calling the HTC One X, a device which has been tipped to have a quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, an 8 megapixel camera on the back, and 4.7-inch super bright display. And by the looks of it, it’s going to be one fantastic looking beast!

HTC One X announced for April release with quad-core Tegra 3, 4.7-inch HD display, and Android 4.0

Posted on Feb 27, 2012 by MG3

Shockingly, the rumors were all true. HTC has today confirmed the existence of a 4.7-inch, quad-core superphone, which it is dubbing the One X and using as the hero device of its new One smartphone family. The Tegra 3-powered One X will feature Android 4.0 right out of the box, alongside a streamlined new version of Sense, fittingly called Sense 4.0. Equipped with NFC, 32GB of built-in storage, and a 1280 x 720 Super LCD display, this is what HTC describes as its "all-in device." The camera comes with an f/2.0 lens and an 8-megapixel backside-illuminated sensor.
Camera performance has been a real priority for HTC with the One series and all three of its newly launched Android handsets come w...

More HTC Endeavor whispers: SLCD display, thin chassis, 32GB and no microSD

Posted on Feb 20, 2012 by MG1

Months of rumors about the HTC Endeavor (aka the One X, Edge, Ville) have layered up to provide a pretty complete (if not totally reliable) picture of the forthcoming Tegra 3-powered Android handset. There's room for a few more brush-strokes, however, and one of MoDaCo's tipsters is happy to paint them. We're told the new handset will have a Super LCD display, despite earlier rumors of HTC flirting with AMOLED (again). This could be no bad thing, judging from the stunning 1280 x 720 panel on the Rezound, but the Endeavor is expected to have a larger 4.7-inch screen and hence a slightly lower pixel density. The thinness of the Endeavor's chassis will reportedly be a major selling point, as wi...

HTC releases bootloader unlocking tool for its legacy phones

HTC releases bootloader unlocking tool for its legacy phones

Posted on Feb 17, 2012 by MG1

Filed in: Cell PhonesHTC

Last August, HTC said all its phones going forward would be released with an unlocked bootloader. It also promised to unlock bootloaders for some older models as well. We thought the Taiwanese company meant the Incredible 2 or other recent phones released in the last year or so. Leave it to HTC to surprise us all with a bootloader unlocking tool that works on phones as old as the HTC Hero.
A post on HTC’s Google+ account confirms that the HTC Hero, Legend, Droid Eris, myTouch 3G, and myTouch 4G are now supported by this utility. You can grab the unlocking tool and instructions from HTC’s dev site. Just select “Unlock Bootloader”, choose your phone and follow the directions. This unlock is ba...

PlayStation Certified HTC devices rumored for second half of 2012

Posted on Feb 15, 2012 by MG1

Filed in: Cell PhonesSonyHTC

PlayStation certification for mobile devices has been an exclusively Sony-only affair up to this point, but today Pocket-lint is reporting that HTC will break that monopoly in the latter half of 2012. Citing sources in the know, the site suggests HTC will get approval to slap PlayStation Certified stickers on its products later in the year, though it's not entirely clear if that will apply retrospectively to devices already released or only to brand new ones. There's also no way to yet know if we're talking about future smartphones, tablets, or both.

HTC Endeavor has made 20+ carriers fall in love with its quad-core heart already

HTC Endeavor has made 20+ carriers fall in love with its quad-core heart already

Posted on Feb 14, 2012 by MG1

The upcoming quad-core battle ship from Taiwan, the HTC Endeavor, has reportedly already signed up more than 20 carriers for its sales cause, including the world's largest carrier by revenue Vodafone, as well as Orange.
The HTC Endeavor is supposed to feature a monster 4.7" 720p display, Tegra 3 with four powerful CPU cores for the heavy lifting, plus one low-clock for the standby tasks, and also sport 8MP camera and LTE connectivity. That's everything but the kitchen sink in today's smartphone standards, and hopefully the battery will be up to the task as well.

Photos of unannounced HTC Ice Cream Sandwich phone leak ahead of MWC

Photos of unannounced HTC Ice Cream Sandwich phone leak ahead of MWC

Posted on Feb 13, 2012 by MG1

Images of an unannounced Android smartphone from HTC have been published online ahead of a possible announcement at the Mobile World Congress trade show later this month. The nameless device features a design similar to Verizon Wireless’s DROID Incredible line of phones, leading phoneArena.com to speculate that it could hit the market as the DROID Incredible 3. The smartphone is running Android 4.0.1 Ice Cream Sandwich along with Sense 4.0 — just like the HTC Ville — and other notable specs include a dual-core 1.2GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, an 8-megapixel camera and 4G LTE connectivity. Given the timing of the leak, we may see HTC introduce the phone alongside the ultra-thin HTC Ville and the...
