Gigabyte Boasts 7.032 GHz CPU Clock Record on Ivy Bridge

In our recent overclocking review of the Core i7-3770K, we showed what Ivy Bridge can do on air and its limitations compared to previous Sandy Bridge CPUs. Gigabyte, with the help of overclocker HiCookie, set out to show what the Core i7-3770K can do on liquid nitrogen cooling and Gigabyte motherboards. HiCookie was able to surpass the 7.0 GHz milestone using a Core i7 3770K processor, while pushing the Gigabyte Z77X-UD3H motherboard to a fully validated 7.032 GHz using liquid nitrogen cooling. This is regarded as the current highest Ivy Bridge CPU frequency and a world record according to global overclocking website HWBot.org.

Intel Core i7 3770K Breaks 7 GHz Mark

An overclocker from Taiwan by the name of HiCookie has overclocked Intel Core i7 3770K E1 (Ivy Bridge) past 7 GHz. He used Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD3H motherboard, Corsair memory, Corsair AX 1200 power supply and of course liquid nitrogen to achieve this. 3 cores were disabled while HT was enabled, FSB was 111.63 MHz, 63x multiplier was used and the core voltage was a whopping 1.956V. Before this, the record was held by nkdfactory from Japan who achieved the highest frequency of 6931.1 MHz.

Intel details 14 dual-core Ivy Bridge processors ahead of Computex

Intel announced its quad-core Ivy Bridge processors in April, but we've known that dual-core CPUs must be on the way too. And alas, the chip maker does have some up its sleeve -- 14, to be exact. Core i5 and Core i7 versions will be the first to ship, with Core i3 processors launching later this year along with new Pentiums and Celerons. Of the 14 dual-core processors, six are desktop-grade. The rest are mobile, though four are ultra-low voltage (which will be denoted by a U at the end of their name). Unreleased Mobile Ivy Bridge CPUs Spotted

CPU World published box numbers for the Core i7-3740QM and i7-3840QM, which will be positioned to support the current 2.6 GHz 3720QM and 2.7 GHz 3820QM models that are positioned on the high-end of the family.
There is not much room for clock speed tweaks for the 3740QM and 3840QM as the flagship model 3920XM already runs at 2.9 GHz. Still, it is pure speculation to talk about clock speeds at this time as Intel denied to comment on the unreleased CPUs. However, the 3840QM could ring in at 2.8 GHz.

Intel Readies Core i5-3350P, Ivy Bridge Quad-Core sans Integrated Graphics

Intel is working on a strange new processor model based on its new 22 nm "Ivy Bridge" silicon, the Core i5-3350P. This part is reported to lack integrated graphics, much like the Core i5-2380P and i5-2450P, from the previous generation. The new i5-3350P will be a quad-core chip, with 6 MB of L3 cache. It comes with a base clock speed of 3.10 GHz, and 3.30 GHz Turbo Boost speed. Like every other Core i5 quad-core processor, it lacks HyperThreading. The lack of integrated graphics also takes a toll on its TDP rating, which is down to 69W. The new Core i5-3350P is expected to be launched in Q3, 2012.

Although slated for June, Intel's budged 22 nm "Ivy Bridge" processors, under the Core i3 brand extension, matter a lot to system builders, small businesses, and enterprises. Three of its first models to be launched are priced. These include the Core i3-3220, priced at 113€ (US $149); Core i3-3225 at 130€ (US $172); and Core i3-3240 at 132€ (US $172).

Intel grabs record share of growing chip market

As global semiconductor revenue hit $306.8 billion in 2011, Intel grabbed its biggest bite of the chip market to date.
Worldwide semiconductor revenue was up $5.4 billion, or 1.8 percent, in 2011 compared with 2010, according to a report from Gartner Inc. on Tuesday.

Although somewhat semi confirmed DigiTimes mentions that Intel plans to introduce its first 22nm Ivy Bridge processors by the end of April. The launch lineup will include the Core i7-3770K, Core i7-3770, Core i7-3770S, Core i7-3770T and Core i5-3550, while the Core i5-3470, Core i5-3470S, Core i5-3475S, Core i5-3570 and Core i5-3570S will be released in early June.

Server makers announce new offerings with Intel's E5 chips

Top server makers on Tuesday announced major product upgrades with Intel's new Xeon E5 processors and technologies that deliver better performance and throughput for robust virtualization and cloud deployments in data centers.
Intel on Tuesday announced the Xeon E5-2600 series chips, which succeed the Xeon 5600 chips announced in March 2010. IBM, Hewlett-Packard and Dell concurrently announced servers with Intel's new chips, and have also packed new networking and bus technologies that improve bandwidth for faster deployment of virtual machines.

Intel may postpone mass shipments of Ivy Bridge processors

Intel recently notified partners of its plans to postpone mass shipments of the company’s Ivy Bridge processors, reports DigiTimes. The company still plans to announce new products that will ship in small volume in April according to the report, although mass shipments are not expect to occur until after June. The supposed delay comes as a number of notebook vendors are seeing weakening sales from the diminishing global economy and other factors. Both vendors and Intel are said to have large inventories of Sandy Bridge processors, so the delay could be seen as a way to minimize the impact of leftover CPUs.

CyberPowerPC Embraces Intel's Overclocking Warranty Plans

Boutique system builder CyberPowerPC claims it's the first U.S. computer manufacturer to offer Intel's Performance Tuning Protection plan, which gives reckless or unlucky overclockers the opportunity to take a one-time mulligan on an overclock-gone-bad and receive a replacement processor. Intel charges a nominal fee (compared to the cost of a replacement processor) for the added protection, but CyberPowerPC's offering it for free on select setups.

Intel opened its back door and shuttled out a refresh of its chips without so much as a phone call, typical! Three desktop Core i5 chips made their way into the big bad world, the i5-2550K replacing the i5-2500K, the i5-2450P replacing the i5-2400 and the i5-2380P replacing the i5-2320. There's a suspicion that the P that follows the two latter models means the GPUs have been disabled / removed to differentiate the price. The four Celerons, two low-voltage, two ultra-low voltage similarly replace older models, from the $70 B720 (replacing the B710) through to the $134 Celeron 867, supplanting the 857.

Dual-Core Ivy Bridge CPUs Reportedly Shipping Second Week of May

Those of you holding out to build a low cost system around Intel's Ivy Bridge platform will have to sit through an intial wave of quad-core processors before the dual-core variants are released. Intel is reportedly kicking off Ivy Bridge on or around April 8, 2012, with the launch of the core i7 3920XM, 3829M, and 3720QM, along with the HM77, UM77, HM76, and HM75 chipsets.

Intel Atom sales hit an all-time low

Sales of Intel's Atom processor have hit an all-time low in Q4 2011. The chip giant pulled in $167 million of Atom sales, a far cry from the $438 million peak achieved two years ago as X-bit Labs reports.
While Intel Corp. is facing great demand towards its advanced Core i-series "Sandy Bridge" microprocessors, the firm of witnessing rapidly dropping demand towards its low-cost/low-power Atom chip line. In Q4 2011 sales of Intel Atom hit all-time low, which is another evidence of dropping popularity of netbooks and ultra low-cost PCs powered by Intel in general.
