Skype is kicking off a massive, $12-million marketing campaign focusing on the value of communication in both the United States and the UK. The IM and VoIP client focuses its marketing effort on the deeper, more meaningful communication that it wants to transmit.
Skype asks "When did it become OK to text Mum happy birthday?" and answers right away that "140 characters doesn't equal staying in touch." With such bold and thought-provoking statements Skype wants to make users think about their habits.

Ashton Kutcher will play Steve Jobs in an upcoming movie

Ashton Kutcher will play Steve Jobs in an upcoming indie movie. This seems like an April’s Fools joke crafted by a genius, but all clues say it’s actually true. Trade paper Variety broke the news on Sunday, April 1st, but we’ve never seen the publication post jokes and moreover this is featured, so while reserving some caution, we’d take it at face value.
Film reporter Jeff Sneider said that Kutcher will play the main role in the indie movie “Jobs.” It seems that the movie will cover the most interesting moments of Jobs’ life starting with his hippie youth and going to his growth to co-founder of Apple.

Filed in: Foxconn

The Fair Labor Association is back from a thorough investigation of Apple device supplier Foxconn in China. It found, as many have reported, numerous labor-rights violations such as long overtime hours and salaries that aren’t enough to cover basic needs for living.
The average monthly salary for factory workers ranges from $358 to $455. Over 60 percent out of the 35,000 employees surveyed by the FLA said this is simply not enough to support normal living expenses. Over 43 percent said they have either witnessed or been involved in a work-related accident. 14 percent of workers complain that they do not receive proper pay for overtime work, since pay is issued based on 30-minute increments. ...

Facebook releases Zuckerberg's Harvard emails, wants lawsuit dismissed

Posted on Mar 30, 2012 by MG1

Embroiled in a legal battle over whether or not Paul Ceglia owns half of Facebook, the social network's CEO Mark Zuckerberg has released a cache of personal emails which refute those claims, many of which date back to his tender college years at Harvard. Facebook is hoping the electronic documents will be enough evidence to have the case dismissed.
Inside those emails, readers find a tense Zuckerberg, irritated by the $10,000 which Ceglia purportedly owed him for working on a project called StreetFax. During his StreetFax days, the emails paint Zuckerberg as a habitually tardy person with a sloppy attitude toward contractual obligations.

With BlackBerry World only weeks away and RIM's earnings report merely hours away, it looks as if newly-appointed CEO Thorsten Heins will be leading it with quite the bang. While Heins has done a truly exceptional job of laying low (really low) during his first few months in the corner office, he's evidently been hard at work rearranging chairs... mentally, at least. According to The Globe and Mail's Iain Marlow, a trusted source has informed him that the BlackBerry maker's head honcho has begun "clearing house," with senior vice presidents and VP-level executives being informed of the imminent changes today. We're tracking down more on the story right now and will update this post as detail...

Best Buy closing 50 big box stores, adding 100 Best Buy Mobile locations

Posted on Mar 30, 2012 by MG1

Best Buy is making some changes according to the Wall Street Journal. The big box retailer plans on closing 50 stores out of the 1,100 it currently runs. It will also test a new format in San Antonio and Minneapolis and lay off 400 employees. The whole package will cut $800 million in costs. Earlier reports said that the popularity of the new Apple iPad had contributed to the problem because of its low margins.
Additionally, Best Buy is losing business to those who come into its stores to browse for merchandise, but then make the actual purchase through an online retailer like Amazon. These online stores do not have to collect sales tax or carry inventory at a number of retail locations like...

DROID RAZR to RAZR MAXX Conversion Kit Available for $110 on Pre-order, Features All Genuine Motorola Parts

Posted on Mar 29, 2012 by DaddyChicken

To call original DROID RAZR owners “frustrated” or “annoyed” over Motorola and Verizon’s decision to release a phone with double the battery life and at the same price only 2 months later called the RAZR MAXX would be a gigantic understatement. In fact, this is one of the bigger Android blunders and slaps to the face we have seen in a long, long time if not ever. No refunds were offered nor were there options for a trade-in to satisfy those early adopters that felt nothing but screwed by this move. Those words may sound harsh, but if you can’t tell, I’m actually holding back. RAZR owners should be furious at this.
