Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesGoogleGALAXY Nexus
Google’s third-generation “Nexus Prime” smartphone — which will likely be the first Android 4.0 “Ice Cream Sandwich” phone to hit the market — will launch in October according to a new report from Korean-language Electronic Times. BGR exclusively reported preliminary details surrounding Google’s next Nexus smartphone codenamed Nexus Prime in mid-June, and we followed up with more exclusive details later that month. This new report from Electronic Times reaffirms several specs we had reported earlier, such as the device’s 720p Super AMOLED HD display, and it narrows our fall release time frame to October. The report also claims that the Prime will be powered by a 1.5GHz processor, jibing with...

Apple Selling Refurbed iPhone in China as New, Gets Sued by Customers
Like UnlikeFiled in: Apple
Apple is sued for allegedly selling refurbished iPhone handsets as new in China, which is a pretty damn big deal if it’s true. I’d like to think there is more to this story, so hopefully we’ll get to the bottom of it sooner than later. But I can’t imagine what it must be like to take home a brand-spankin’ new iPhone and opening it up and using it only to realize that it isn’t a fresh virgin from the factory.

Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsMicrosoftVertuWindows Phone 7
It probably goes without saying and is not really unexpected, but it is still nice to have Eldar ‘confirm’ Nokia Vertu handsets running Windows Phone 7 are coming.
Vertu handsets tend to be covered in gold and jewels, but still run the creaky Symbian OS inside.
Would any of out readers be tempted to splash out on a Vertu if it ran our favourite OS, or would it still be too tasteless. Let us know below.

Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesLG
LG’s cell phones are doing okay, kind of. The company’s mobile division is narrowing down its loss, but it could have been reaping the benefits of Android like HTC if it wasn’t for a strategic mistake the company allegedly make. You guessed it right – LG was to be the first Android phone maker, but backtracked on the deal, forcing Google to work with HTC, according to a report by the WSJ.

Verizon Android share dropped substantially following iPhone 4 launch
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesAppleVerizon WirelessiPhone 4
Verizon Wireless’ share of the U.S. Android market was down again in August, sinking to its lowest point since the carrier’s launch of the iPhone 4 this past March. The nation’s top carrier played a large role in popularizing Google’s mobile OS thanks to a massive $100 million marketing campaign focused on the Motorola DROID, but Apple’s smartphone has shifted demand among its subscribers. According to market research firm Chitka Insights, Verizon Wireless’ share of the Android smartphone market in the U.S. stood at 51.42% in March, the month after Apple’s CDMA iPhone 4 finally launched.

C++ Rebooted with Parallel Algorithms and Better Performance
Like UnlikeWithout a major revision in over a decade (13 years, to be exact), it seemed that C++ had become a forgotten programming language among a new generation of developers, or at the very least it has been tremendously overshadowed by JavaScript, Python, and other trendier languages. But look out, because C++ is making a comeback. A new standard called C++11 received unanimous approval from the ISO C++ standards committee and is expected to be published within the year, according to Herb Sutter, the committee's chairman.

While the cloud is great and all, the highest bandwidth connection is between one’s windows phone 7 handset and the desktop (or laptop) right next to it, and users have been complaining for most of the last year about not being able to take advantage of that to sync documents, contacts and other scenarios.

Apple Seeks to Patent Thinner Headphone Jack
Like UnlikeFiled in: Apple
Apple has applied for a new patent that would halve the size of audio jacks for headphones and the ports needed to accommodate them. The jacks would be sliced in half lengthwise, decreasing the thickness from today's standard 3.5mm to 1.75mm. The housing for the jack would be placed on the outer edge of a device, rather than buried internally. The patent application notes that this would cause a few problems and Apple proposes how to solve them. First, though existing jacks would fit into the new design, there's nothing holding them in place, so they'd fall out. Apple proposes to solve this by creating a magnetic interface to hold the jack in place. Second, the half-exposed jacks would be vi...
