Wikileaks website targeted by hackers

Wikileaks website targeted by hackers

Posted on Sep 01, 2011 by MG1

Wikileaks found itself the victim of a cyberattack on Tuesday, shortly after the release of thousands of US State Department communications. News broke of the attack on their Twitter page, which offered another link to the communications, and a message stating "WikiLeaks.org is presently under attack."
It is likely that they were hit with a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack, the most commonly used method by hackers to cause disruption to websites. It works by flooding the servers with traffic, overloading them, and subsequently causing the servers to crash, or become otherwise unreachable.
"Want to really help Wikileaks fend off attacks? Send us money to pay the bills. Many people ...

HP Pre 3 UK price drop outed on official site

It looks like the long-awaited HP Pre 3 UK price has been outed on the official site, but won't be there for long.
We spoke to the official representatives, who told us that the page was 'likely going to be taken down soon' and the Pre 3 won't be put on sale directly.
However, and take this following statement with a HUGE pinch of salt, the chap we spoke to on the phone said that high street retailers 'such as The Carphone Warehouse and PC World' will be taking stock of the phone, although couldn't confirm the price would be the same.
A retro classic in the making
We're interested to see if this pans out - considering customer service 'facts' are wrong nearly every time, we're not holding ou...

Spotify Wants to Bake Itself Into All Your iOS Apps

Spotify Wants to Bake Itself Into All Your iOS Apps

Spotify Wants to Bake Itself Into All Your iOS Apps
Spotify's been up for nearly two months, and it's shown amazing growth. Now it wants to find its way into everything else you do on your iPhone by handing developers and Premium users the new Spotify API.
Called libspotify 9, the code will allow the program to live inside any app developers can think of. Spotify sessions are already handled pretty well by iOS multitasking, but, as excellent as the app is, you tend to have to leave what you're doing to change playlists. By sticking the functionality into games, for instance, you won't have to jump out of what you're doing in the middle of a campaign. Pretty neat.

Openwave sues Apple and RIM for patent infringement

Openwave sues Apple and RIM for patent infringement

Posted on Sep 01, 2011 by MG1

Add one more to the tally of patent lawsuits involving Apple and RIM. This time it's Openwave Systems using the license-by-litigation technique, and it's alleging that multiple devices infringe five of its patents on mobile internet -- including offline email access, cloud computing, and secure server access. The company claims that Apple's iPhone 3G, 3GS and 4, the iPod Touch, both iPads, plus RIM's Blackberry Curve 9930 and the PlayBook all infringe its IP. Apparently, Openwave initially took the pacifist route to persuade Cupertino and Waterloo to pay up, but when its overtures were ignored, it decided upon more aggressive tactics. As others before it, Openwave wants to fight a two front ...

Sony Ericsson announces Xperia Arc S with 1.4GHz CPU

Posted on Sep 01, 2011 by MG1

Even today, the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc is one of the sexiest phones to ever exist in my book, hindered only by its late 2010 specs. Well, Sony Ericsson just announced the Xperia Arc S, and slightly beefed-up Arc with a 1.4GHz processor. Whether or not it’s enough to make us want to pick one up is another story but it’s still the sexy beast we’ve come to love.
So what exactly does this spec bump bring to the tablet? Well, Sony Ericsson claims the 1.4GHz CPU will allow camera start-up and media conversion times to be up to 25% faster, and 20% faster web page rendering compared to the original. You’ll also see some new features like Sony 3D panorama shot, as well as Music and Video Unlimited.

HTC rep claims Mango update coming in September

HTC rep claims Mango update coming in September

Posted on Sep 01, 2011 by MG1

The most frequent question we get these days is when the Mango update will be pushed out by Microsoft.
We Love Windows Phone .HK have posted this excerpt from a conversation with a HTC customer service rep posted by WPXAP, a Chinese Windows Phone Forum, which goes some way to answering that question.
In the conversation the rep claims, based on internal emails, that HTC has completed the OEM customization of Windows Phone 7.5 Mango, and that this is just awaiting Microsoft certification before being pushed out.
The rep claims the update will definitely be arriving in September, but could however not pin it down even more closely.
Of course for most people the day the update arrives depends.....
