Eric Schmidt is in a good mood. The Google chairman has been heaping praise upon outgoing Apple CEO Steve Jobs, and lauding the recently-aquired Motorola Mobility, teasing us with hints of new products right around the corner.
“We did it for more than just patents,” Schmidt said of the $12.5 billion takeover of Motorola Mobility in an interview by Salesforce.com CEO Marc Benioff. “The Motorola team has some amazing products.”
Previously, debate has raged over Google’s patent wars. In acquiring Motorola, the Big G gained access to more than 17,000 patents which could be wielded in a patent battle against the likes of Apple and Microsoft. Meanwhile, others have claimed Google made the move in ...

At a press conference before the IFA show in Berlin, Samsung revealed it will be the first to host YouTube 3D videos on its Smart TVs and Smart Hubs. The dedicated app that makes this possible will be exclusive to Samsung for a limited but unspecified time. The company's European marketing director, Michael Zoller, said the app will be one of 100 new ones introduced before year's end, and likely by the end of September.
At the same time, Samsung added a new 60-inch version of its thin, 0.2-inch bezeled D8000 LED-lit TV line, which was introduced at CES. The 60D8000 gets 3D support and supports the Smart TV web and app platform.

Dual core Sony Ericsson Nozomi coming next year?

Posted on Sep 02, 2011 by MG3

It seems Sony Ericsson's flagship phone of 2012 has been outed as the high-spec Nozomi, although whether it's still cutting edge next year remains to be seen.
The Xperia Blog is quoting a highly trusted source about the new phone, which will pack a dual-core 1.5GHz processor and 1GB of RAM.
On top of this would be a 4.3-inch screen with a huge 1280x720 resolution, giving it a PPI of 342 which far exceeds the iPhone 4.

Motorola's Photon 4G: The best Android smartphone yet

There's new hope for Android aficionados who want IT to let them use their preferred mobile OS for work, thanks to Motorola Mobility's four business-oriented smartphones: the Photon 4G and Xpert for Sprint, Atrix 4G for AT&T Wireless, and Droid 3 for Verizon Wireless. Motorola has filled in several deficiencies of the Android operating system that keep many IT organizations from allowing its use. For example, the new Motorola devices add support for on-device encryption to Android 2.3 "Gingerbread" and support more Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) security policies, so they're now compliant with many organizations' security requirements.

Are we going to have to petition Congress to change Thursday to Ultrabookday? If the flood of announcements keeps up like this, we might just have to take that drastic step. First, Lenovo unveiled three different Ultrabook models… Wait, did we say first? Actually, Toshiba managed to squeak in under the wire and yank the curtains off of its Ultrabook prior to Lenovo's announcement, making the Portégé Z830 series the first Intel-based MacBook Air clones out of the gate. Officially, at least.

Not surprisingly, Toshiba is covering all the bases at IFA today, with it now also announcing its latest batch of camcorders. That includes the Camileo Clip pictured above (which actually has a clip 'round back for hands-free shooting), as well as the more traditional Camileo X200 and X400, all three of which record 1080p video and rely exclusively on SD cards for storage. Fujifilm has unveiled the X10 - an enthusiast compact with a F2.0-2.8, 28-112mm-equivalent lens. It's built around a 2/3" (6.6 x 8.8mm) CMOS sensor that uses Fujifilm's EXR pixel arrangement. The 12MP sensor can produce either 12MP images in high resolution mode, under-expose half its pixels to provide 6MP images with greater dynamic range, or combine neighboring pixels for a 6MP high sensitivity mode. The X10 borrows extensively from the styling of the X100 (though its zooming viewfinder means you lose the X100's hybrid viewfinder), to give a camera that sits conceptually between the Olympus XZ-1 and the Canon Powershot G12.
