Toshiba's new Regza WL800A HDTV hooks up with your smartphone via MHL

Posted on Sep 02, 2011 by MG3

The MHL Consortium wants to banish HDMI ports from our phones in favor of its Mobile High-Definition Link connection, and the tech has found its way into handsets like the GSII and the EVO 3D. But until now, there were no TVs to connect to. Toshiba's latest in the Regza line, the WL800A, is the lone set in its 2011 lineup to pack the 5-pin port that pulls 1080p from your mobile device and puts it up on a 46-inch or 55-inch edge-lit LED panel. Best part is, the MHL connection pushes power back into your phone at the same time video is streaming -- so you don't have to worry about your phone dying on you in the middle of your mobile movie marathon. Currently for sale in the land of Oz for $2,3...

Epson announced today the launch of the world’s first high-temperature polysilicon TFT-liquid crystal panels for 3D 3LCD projectors. This is a huge advancement since Epson is one of the few major companies that hasn’t released a 3D projector yet. The display panel utilizes a new technology that Epson calls the “Bright 3D Drive,” which brightens 3D images by doubling the image refresh rate from 240 Hz to 480 Hz. This technology is able to brighten the image by 1.5 times for 3D images. Nobuyuki Shimotome, Chief Operating Officer, TFT Operations Division, Epson, said, “Thanks to our new HTPS panels users will enjoy bright 3D images. We caught a sneak peek of Acer's Aspire 3951 Ultrabook in the wild a few days ago, and now we have some unofficial specs and pricing to complement the svelte laptop. A report over on Notebook Italia points to an Italian retailer's live pre-order page for an Ultrabook S3 -- naming that matches the Aspire S branding on the company's IFA booth. The notebook, listed as retailing for around 786 euros (or $1,133), is purported to include a Core i5 processor, 4GB RAM, 320GB of storage and an additional 20GB SSD. Much has been made of ASUS' and Intel's desire to hit the Ultrabook market at a sub-$1000 price point and, currency conversion aside, it's looking like Acer could also hit that target for i...

Best Buy cuts up to $150 off BlackBerry PlayBook

Best Buy cuts up to $150 off BlackBerry PlayBook

Posted on Sep 02, 2011 by MG1

Best Buy has kicked off a promotion for the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet that slashes the price by as much as $150. The deal isn’t quite as dramatic as the HP TouchPad fire sale of course, but it’s still decent for those that have been considering the PlayBook, especially the 64GB model.
The sale offers a $50 discount on the 16GB and 32GB PlayBook models bringing the prices down to $449.99 and $549.99, respectively. The $150 discount goes towards the 64GB model, which oddly brings the price down in line with the 32GB model at $549.99. That’s a sign that they’re way overstocked on the 64GB model, because seriously who would pay the same amount for the smaller storage capacity?

Anonymous Roars Back With 3GB Leak of Texas Police Chief Emails: "That stupid bitch got what she deserved"

Posted on Sep 02, 2011 by MG1

Anonymous, after a relatively large period of doing nothing, are back with a vengeance. Even without their (arrested) de facto leader Topiary, they've punched Texan law enforcement squarely in their gut: a giant email leak, internal documents, addresses. Anon's back.
Anon explains the motives for the attack thusly:
We are doing this in solidarity with the "Anonymous 16" PayPal LOIC defendants, accused LulzSec member Jake Davis "Topiary", protesters arrested during #OpBart actions, Bradley Manning, Stephen Watt, and other hackers and leakers worldwide.
But really, it's Topiary's arrest more than anything. That cut of the hydra counted for more than one head, and they've been hurting (and quie...
