New 3DS To Be Revealed September 13?
Like UnlikeFiled in: Game ConsolesNintendo3DS
Nintendo will be holding a special event one week from next Tuesday, and all signs point to it being a chance for the company to unveil a radical new version of its fledgling 3DS handheld.
Rumors started popping up last month that Nintendo was so dissatisfied with the way the 3DS has performed that it is planning on revamping the hardware and launching a new product less than a year after the first 3DS handheld was released.
The September 13 event, which Nintendo called the "Nintendo 3DS Conference 2011," will be held in Japan, but fan sites have translated the invitation to mean something about a "Nintendo 3DS new product announcement."
The event will be streamed live over services Ustream ...

Vodafone Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 goes on sale for £229
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsSamsungGALAXY Tab 10.1
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is now available on Vodafone, which should come as a great relief for all those involved.
The 10.1-inch Honeycomb tablet will cost £229 if you agree to sign up to a 2-year, £27-a-month contract.
Vodafone has had a turbulent time getting the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 to its customers, with the company first offering an exclusive model with a better camera before Samsung made the rash decision that the tab wasn’t good enough to compete with the iPad 2.
After that crisis, Vodafone was, for a time, still going to stock the model, instead calling it the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1V to emphasis the difference.
That debacle over, and everything looked set for a smooth ride unt...

Amazon testing locker system that sends your deliveries to 7-Eleven
Like UnlikeFiled in: Amazon
Amazon may be testing a new service that gives you the option to have products you ordered delivered to your local 7-Eleven. Although a bit odd, the idea can offer convenience to those who don’t feel safe having products left outside their door while away at work. This could also benefit those that won’t be home to sign for a delivery or perhaps others who simply don’t want their spouses or housemates to know about a purchase.
According to The Daily, a source familiar with the situation says that the service involves Amazon placing large computerized locker systems at various 7-Eleven stores across the country, with the first prototype already installed at a 7-Eleven store in Seattle’s Capit...

Microsoft confirms Media Center will be in Windows 8
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsMicrosoftWindows 8
Windows Media Center fans can finally breathe again. After seemingly endless will they / won't they speculation Steven Sinofsky, the President of the Windows Division has confirmed in a blog post that Media Center will return for yet another go 'round in Windows 8. There's no word on any possible changes, only that the company has "work to do" concerning the quality and compatibility of add-ins. Wondering why it hasn't been in some pre-release builds? Between the potential for multiple SKUs (no details until closer to release, but it seems like you'll be looking for an Ultimate pack or something similar again to get everything) and simple engineering decisions as features are added and remov...

Geek walks into Apple Store with broken Time Capsule, walks out with drive full of Apple documents
Like UnlikeFiled in: Apple
Sometimes weird things happen at Apple. Losing one iPhone at a bar is odd enough; losing a second, the same way is downright weird. The latest snafu at Apple is firmly on the weird side as well. Apparently, a guy took his malfunctioning Time Capsule back up drive into an Apple Store. When he left with the drive and got home the owner realized he had a bit of extra content on the old supposedly broken hard drive.
Apparently, the Genius at the Apple Store gave the man back his repaired Time Capsule sporting a new drive and the old busted drive that was replaced. When the guy plugged the old drive in the thing worked and was full of confidential Apple documents going back to late 2009 up to May...

Samsung: Galaxy Note hits Europe Q1 2012, US afterwards
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungGALAXY Note
Samsung has yet to officially announce Galaxy Note release dates, leading to some confusion yesterday, but the company’s execs were at least able to give SlashGear a window. When we met with Samsung earlier today to get a more in-depth fondle with some of the Note’s more interesting features, they told us that it’s expected to arrive in Q1 2012 in the UK (and presumably Europe).
US availability, meanwhile, will follow “later than that” though they couldn’t say exactly how much later. Given we’ve only just seen a US launch for the Samsung Galaxy S II, despite it having gone on sale in Europe in late April, it’s certainly imaginable that North American carriers could drag their heels out for s...

Vodafone, Acer and the Telegraph suffer DNS hack
Like UnlikeA number of high-profile website have been subject to a DNS attack, with Vodafone, Acer and the Telegraph's websites all redirected to a third-party site belonging to Turkish hackers.
According to security specialist Sophos, the websites themselves weren't actually touched but a re-direct was put into place with the words: "4 Sept. We TurkGuvenligi declare this day as World Hackes Day - Have fun ;) h4ck y0u."
DNS test
As well as Vodafone and the like, UPS, The National Geographic and BetFair were also affected.
All of these sites – there seems to 186 in total – belong to web providers Ascio and NetNames, which are owned by Group NBT.
Many of the sites are back on this morning, with the Regis...

Researchers wed quantum processor with quantum memory, quaziness ensues
Like UnlikeQuantum computing has a long way to go before becoming truly mainstream, but that certainly hasn't stopped us from indulging in dreams of a qubit-based existence. The latest bit of fantasy fodder comes from the University of California, Santa Barbara, where researchers have become the first to combine a quantum processor with memory mechanisms on a single chip. To do this, Matteo Mariantoni and his team of scientists connected two qubits with a quantum bus and linked each of them to a memory element, capable of storing their current values in the same way that RAM stores data on conventional computers. These qubit-memory links also contained arrays of resonators -- jagged, yet easily control...

More alleged LulzSec and Anonymous members arrested
Like UnlikeFour men have been arrested under suspicion of involvement in the hacking activities of LulzSec and Anonymous.
Hailing from Doncaster, Northampton, London and sleepy old Warminster, the four suspects, all in their twenties, were taken into custody as part of a big operation involving Scotland Yard and the FBI.
Two of the suspects were arrested for conspiring to commit offences under the Computer Misuse Act of 1990.
Hacktivism
The four new arrestees join a growing roster of Brits that have been accused of involvement in the hacking collectives.
The first arrest made was of Ryan Cleary, a 19-year-old who was arrested in Essex as a suspect involved in LulzSec's activities.

Acer W14 shows up at IFA
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesAcerAllegro
AreaMobile.de has just stumbled across this new Acer Windows Phone 7 handset at IFA in Germany.
The Acer W14 is a 1 Ghz device with an unknown megapixel camera, 8 GB storage and 512 MB RAM running Windows Phone 7 Mango.
Obviously not a particularly high end device, I like that the phone does try to make some concession to style with its smoothly curved back.
No other detail of the handset is available, but I expect the handset should see some distribution in Asia soon.
