AT&T announces Windows Phone Mango lineup coming this fall, existing devices to be updated
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsMicrosoftAT&TWindows Phone 7.5
In the first of what we expect to be many announcements related to Windows Phone Mango devices, AT&T stepped up to the plate this morning by unveiling three new "4G" handsets that use the latest version of Microsoft's OS: the HTC Titan, Samsung Focus S and Focus Flash. We already know quite a bit about the Titan, but details on Sammy's selections are slim for now -- images aren't even available for either phone, though it's likely we've seen at least one of them before. In addition, the carrier's also planning to update its entire existing lineup with Windows Phone 7.5.
As for the fall lineup, there doesn't seem to be a slacker in the bunch. The Focus S will have a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus...

FBI Investigating NBC Twitter Hack
Like UnlikeThe FBI is now investigating a Friday hack of the NBC News Twitter account, which falsely tweeted about an attack at Ground Zero.
At this point, the FBI is gathering information and has provided no additional details, according to MSNBC.
The fake tweets appeared on the NBC feed just days before the tenth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and during a period of increased security in New York thanks to reports of possible 9/11 anniversary attacks.
"Breaking News! Ground Zero has just been attacked. Flight 5736 has crashed into the site, suspected hijacking. more as the story develops," read the first tweet. "Flight 4782 is not responding, suspected hijacking. One plane ju...

Two more key Linux websites hacked
Like UnlikeThe Linux Foundation discovered security breaches late last week on servers hosting Linux.com and LinuxFoundation.org websites and other Linux related sub-domains.
The attacks are believed to be related to the Kernel.org breaches we reported on at the beginning of the month. As a precaution, the foundation has taken all servers offline while they investigate the intrusions although how they were compromised has not currently been released.
"The Linux Foundation made this decision in the best interest of extreme caution and security best practices," they commented in a statement released on Linux.com.
The non-profit group also took the opportunity to apologize for the inconvenience caused but...

Intel to offer Android 2.x on Atom E6xx in January - News - Linux for Devices
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsGoogleAndroid 2.1Android 2.2Android 2.3
Intel has tipped upcoming support for Android 2.3x ("Gingerbread") on its Atom E6xx processor and denied rumors it is discontinuing support for the MeeGo project. Meanwhile, HTC is said to be considering acquiring its own operating system, but Samsung says it won't be acquiring MeeGo, say two other industry reports.
Intel posted a YouTube video on its Intel Atom E6xx processor (pictured), revealing that the E6xx will be ready to run a version of Android 2.3x ("Gingerbread") in Jan. 2012 (see video farther below). As noted by "Chippy" on CarryPad, which picked up early on the Intel video, "It seems clear now that this could be an open source version of Gingerbread for Atom that third parties ...

Apple sued for patent infringement over iTunes and movie trailers
Like UnlikeFiled in: Apple
Another day and Apple is at the core of another patent suit in the tech world. This time around, the suit wasn’t brought against someone by Apple, Apple is being sued and it’s not by Samsung. The suit was brought against Apple by a company called Droplets Inc. based in Plano Texas. Naturally, the suit was filed in the East Texas court that is known for siding with patent holders.
Droplets has some large and well-known clients that license its tech including IBM, Borland, and PricewaterhouseCoopers. Nintendo 3DS 3D video recording on the way
Like UnlikeFiled in: Game ConsolesNintendo3DS
Nintendo's conference at the Tokyo Game Show suggested that 3D video capture would soon arrive for the 3DS handheld, but it was not enough to buoy the company in the eyes of investors.
A conference in the early hours of the morning saw Mario Tennis 3DS, Monster Hunter 4 and Fire Emblem announced, the former utilising the gyroscopic sensor.
"From the end of this year to the beginning of next, we are planning the kind of extensive line-up that has probably never been seen before in the history of video games," said Nintendo president Satoru Iwata.
"We will make an all-out effort to see that the 3DS sells enough to become the successor to the DS."
Other major games on the horizon include Super ...

Next Android platform to be named Jelly Bean?
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsGoogleAndroid
Despite Ice Cream Sandwich not having been released for Google's mobile platform, it seems we've already got information on the name of the next iteration.
Apparently 'trusted sources' from This Is My Next have revealed that we're going to be waiting on the release of Android Jelly Bean next, which could be dubbed Android 4.5 or Android 5.0, depending on the amount of features packed into the new platform.
TechRadar exclusively revealed the name of Google's Tablet OS - Honeycomb - 10 months before it was launched to the public this year, so it's likely that it will be a long time until we see Android Jelly Bean.

Symantec's 'Norton One' Will Cover PCs to Phones, All For One Fee
Like UnlikeSymantec disclosed Monday that the company plans to debut a service called "Norton One" in 2012, with a single family subscription for securing PCs, Macs, and mobile devices.
Details are still scarce; Jody Gibney, a group product management for Norton one, said that the pricing of the service, as well as the types and number of devices will support, will be revealed at the launch.
Protection and performance will be the two watchwords, however. Symantec intends to differentiate the service through a premium support plan that will be included as well.
Norton One has been in development for about two years, Gibney said, and One is designed to be a premium service, probably a step above Norton 3...

Punters snapping up Nintendo 3DS after price cut
Like UnlikeFiled in: Game ConsolesNintendo3DS
Nintendo's decision to slash the price of the 3DS has paid dividends, with the handheld's sales increasing by 260 per cent in the US.
Poor sales prompted a major shift in policy from Nintendo, with the Japanese gaming giant deciding that it would make a loss on each unit, in the hopes of jumpstarting the 3D device.
And a price point in the US of $170 has given the company a much-needed boost.
Positive response
"Consumers are responding very positively to the new suggested retail price of $169.99 for the Nintendo 3DS," said Nintendo of America's executive vice president of sales and marketing Scott Moffitt.
"With Star Fox 64 3D and the new Flame Red colour launching tomorrow, and Super Mario ...

Windows Phone Mango is set to be released this week, with the latest rumours pointing to a 15 September release date.

Cowon D3 firmware hits 3.5, gives your Gingerbread PMP a spit shine
Like UnlikeFiled in: Portable Media PlayersCowonD3
The Cowon D3, equal parts stunning and frustrating, got at least incrementally better in July when it finally scored a heavily skinned version of Gingerbread. Now, with version 3.55 of the media player's firmware, the D3 is getting even more streamlined. There's no huge new features to speak of -- and don't even get your hopes up for market support -- but overall the PMP should be more stable and run a bit smoother. Hit up the source link to check out the full list of bug fixes and to download the update now.

Report of Steve Jobs' death mistakenly repeated on CBS News.com
Like UnlikeFiled in: Apple
Two big errors this last week pointed out the problems of relying on tweets as a legitimate news source such as the Associated Press or Reuters. Last week, someone hacked into the NBC News Twitter account and sent out a tweet about a terror attack and plane crash at Ground Zero. Of course, with the 10th anniversary of the attack on the United States, everyone's sensitivity was set on skittish to begin with.
"What's Trending" host and creator Shira Lazar
That was followed up by a report on CBS News' "What's Trending". The web show reports on trends happening on the internet and passed along a report on Friday that read, "Reports say that Steve Jobs has passed away. Stay tuned for more updates...
