On the hardware side you're looking at a glossy black box with a 300Mbps WiFi radio, Ethernet, optical audio out and, of course, HDMI. The NeoTV is available for pre-order now and will start shipping towards the end of the month for $80. And once you get tired of rewatching every episode of Next Generation, you can play a few hands of Blackjack or check out this little thing you may ...

Panasonic G-series lenses get firmware update, performance boosts aplenty

Jonesin' to shoot some radder-than-usual HD video with that Lumix G-series lens? You're in luck. Panasonic released a firmware update for the family of lenses that gives them a needed level-up -- bringing 'em to version 1.1 -- to shoot higher quality video. Added features include enhanced tracking focus for videos, silent auto focus, improved stability for the optical image stabilizer and exposure control. The update applies to seven slabs of metal and glass, and every single unit in the 2011 line is also covered. Hit the source if you're ready to update, but don't expect that 720p ceiling to magically raise to 1080p -- it's just a poor attempt at marketing genius.

Intel intros DeepSafe CPU security, will optimize Android for x86
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsIntelGoogleAndroid
Putting its $7.68 billion acquisition to use, Intel has announced a new processor technology it's deemed "one of the biggest innovations" in the security industry's history. Called McAfee DeepSafe, the framework sits below your operating system and will allow McAfee to develop hardware-assisted security features.
Intel didn't provide many details, but the goal is to detect and thwart malware that can evade your OS-level antivirus. In one example, DeepSafe stopped a zero-day rootkit called Agony from infecting a system in real time. More details should arise soon as DeepSafe is expected to ship in products later this year.
"When you operate below the operating system level you get a unique ad...

Sony's Dash gets a new lease on life, we stop to wonder why
Like UnlikeFiled in: Photo FramesSonyHID-B7HID-B70
Remember Sony's Dash? That little pseudo tablet powered by Chumby OS that started making the rounds at last year's CES? No, well we almost forgot about it too. But, just as it was finally fading from memory, Sony hit us with an update to the Internet Viewer. Not much has changed, save a rearrangement of the ports and buttons. It's still got the same pile of widgets and channels, but now sports a (very) basic web browser for those with a bit of a masochistic streak. The ability to register your Dash without having to first hook up to a PC is also a welcome addition. The black-only HID-B7 will ship for $130, while the HID-B70 comes in brown, blue and orange while adding a battery to the mix fo...
