End of August HP announced that they are making more HP TouchPads and sell them for the $99 fire sale price. As soon as HP set the price of the HP TouchPad to $99.99 it was a hard to find item. Consumers have been willing to pay over $200 in the weeks since the fire sale began. Many are no waiting for the final HP TouchPad batch that HP has announced. The reason why HP is building more TouchPads and sell them at a loss is likely heaps of component inventory in the supply chain.
HP did not reveal an exact date when the new HP TouchPad tablets would go on sale on the HP Store, but today we got a hint thanks to a leaked internal HP email. TechCrunch reports that HP is offering the $99.99 HP Tou...

As comic as it sounds, the rumor of a phone call that kills people has spread across Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation. The rumor started spreading throughout the country via a text message and became so viral, the Nigerian government had to step in and reassure people that a phone call from 09141 won’t kill them.
The text message states that seven to ten people have died because of the call. The Nigerian Communication Commission issued the following statement:
Technically, it is not possible for such a thing to happen. It is therefore unimaginable that somebody will die while receiving a call. It is only very gullible people that will believe such a rumour.

The Federal Communications Commission will begin testing a database that will allow wireless devices to make use of U.S. white space spectrum, the unused bands of spectrum that sit between radio and TV signals.
The FCC's Spectrum Bridge database is a compendium of all the wireless channels that are not being utilized for TV or radio broadcasts. Use of those channels would prevent devices from interfering with broadcasters. The agency will be testing the channels for 45 days, starting on September 19. The FCC encourages cable operators to register with the database to ensure its accuracy.
The agency could extend the test for a longer period of time if it finds interference with existing syste...

iPhone 5 jailbreak should be pretty easy

iPhone 5 jailbreak should be pretty easy

Posted on Sep 19, 2011 by MG1

At today's MyGreatFest jailbreaking convention, master hacker P0sixninja announced that a jailbreak should be coming pretty quickly to the iPhone 5, in a far shorter amount of time than was necessary for the iPad 2 jailbreak. The good news is all thanks to the Chronic Dev Team, which has found 5 bootrom exploits in the A5 chip which powers both the iPad 2 and the iPhone 5.
A reliable jailbreak proved hard to come by with the A5 and the iPad 2, because the bootrom is found inside the A5 chip and required a lot of hard work to reverse-engineer and find the exploits. That's why it ended up taking about 4 months to find a reliable jailbreak for the iPad 2. However, since then, the Chronic Dev T...

HTC Titan and HTC Radar expected to be available 4th October in Netherlands

Posted on Sep 19, 2011 by MG1

The first of the next wave of Windows Phone 7.5 handsets is set to hit the west very soon, with the HTC Titan and HTC Radar expected to reach stores on the 4th of October, a mere 2 weeks from now, in the Netherlands.
The high-specced HTC Titan will be a steep 559 Euro at Smartphoneshop.nl and the more mid-range HTC Radar 369 Euro.
Having used an HTC Trophy for around a year now, and never feeling disadvantages compared to the HTC HD7, I do wonder if the HTC Titan is worth the extra expense over the HTC Radar. What do our readers think? Let us know below.

Marantz Bows the PM6004 Stereo Integrated Amplifier

Posted on Sep 19, 2011 by MG1

The latest amp from Marantz is an upgrade to their well received PM6003. Along with minor improvements and tweaks, the 6004 features one big change. Unlike former amps from the company, the PM6004 doesn't have a single amplifier integration circuit. Both the pre-amplification and power amplification sections use their own discrete components. Marantz says that this is not only a performance increase, but a way for the company to refine the sound even more on an individual basis.
Everything else from the 6003 remains in place, including the Toroidal transformer, capacitors, heat sink mounted transistor and the same inputs. The sound has been improved though, with a greater focus on balance...

Windows 8 on ARM won’t run x86 apps Microsoft admits

Posted on Sep 16, 2011 by MG1

Windows 8 ARM PCs will not, in fact, have full app compatibility with software designed for x86 Windows 7 and 8 computers, Microsoft has confirmed, instead demanding that developers port their titles over to the new architecture. Despite earlier suggestions that seemed to indicate otherwise, Windows president Steven Sinofsky clarified during an analyst Q&A this week that while new apps coded for the Metro UI will work on both x86 and ARM tablets, laptops and other computers, existing software will not.
