Nvidia CEO: GeForce Grid 'will do for video games what cable television did for video'
Like UnlikeFiled in: Graphic CardsnVIDIA
"The skiing industry would be a lot larger if you could just go do it," explains Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang. There isn't a ski pole in sight: it's a metaphor for how he wants to expand the reach of video games to entirely new audiences. Two weeks ago, at the company's GPU Technology Conference, Huang introduced a new technology on stage: a GPU called GeForce Grid, specifically designed to stream video games to any smartphone, tablet, PC, or app-savvy TV. Today, however, at the company's annual investor meeting, Huang has revealed that his company is looking to make graphically potent games more portable and convenient for everyone, not just existing players. "The entire video game market is s...

Apple’s ‘iTV’ might not be a TV at all
Like UnlikeFiled in: TVsApple
For all the rumors surrounding Apple’s upcoming HDTV, very few well-sourced reports have emerged regarding the high-definition flat-screen television that has market leaders responding even before any official “iTV” is unveiled. Recent claims suggest Apple has an aluminum HDTV in the works powered by iOS and Siri voice controls, but further details are conflicting. A number of analysts have backed away from the idea of an Apple television recently, but late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs’s exclamation that he “cracked” the TV conundrum will ensure that rumors continue to swirl. According to some new speculation, however, Apple’s upcoming “iTV” might not be a TV at all.
In a recent blog post, F...

Navy to put 4G LTE on ships for combat communication
Like UnlikeThe United States Navy is going 4G LTE, according to a Wired report. No, the Navy is not rebranding itself as the Navy 4G LTE, but the military branch will offer service members aboard the U.S.S. Kearsarge, U.S.S. San Antonio, and U.S.S. Whidbey Island the ability to connect to a 4G LTE network while aboard the ships. The LTE network is a supplement to, and not a replacement of existing satellite-based technologies the Navy relies on, but rather serves to give non-essential communications a boost. The network will go live later this year.

Google’s 7-inch Nexus tablet is believed to be released sometime in July
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsGoogle
Summer is looking to be a scorcher, but if the reports about Google’s Nexus branded tablet surely turns out to be true, we can potentially see it come to market as soon as July. Come to think about it, that’s not too far off at this point, as we’re nearing the start of the summer season.
From what’s being reported, it seems that the 7-inch Google Nexus tablet will ship in June with an estimated initial volume of 600,000 units. Previously believed to launch in May, it seems that the date was pushed back due to unsatisfactory marks regarding its design. Furthermore, the cost attached to it was simply too much to swallow for a device expected to flaunt a price point as low as $199. Hence the r...

Facebook's New Camera App Is Pretty Much Instagram
Like UnlikeFacebook today dropped a new photo-sharing app for the iPhone and iPod Touch called Facebook Camera. And it looks pretty familiar!
So why did Facebook just spend a billion dollars on Instagram? Its new offering is curiously similar to the recent acquisition. Pegged as a tool to upload and share pictures on the social network, Facebook Camera also includes 15 filters and various basic editing and cropping options. The difference is that shots go straight to Facebook, rather than being added to an Instagram account, and you can post multiple photos at one time.

Motorola police car details: Voice controls, 4G and automated policing
Like UnlikePolice officers may soon find themselves patrolling the streets in next-generation vehicles that combine Knight Rider with modern technology to create a cruiser that can handle a good amount of police work on its own. Unveiled recently by Motorola Solutions, the 2012 Chevrolet Caprice PPV and Detective vehicle combines cutting-edge technology with General Motors’s pedigree to create a product that is as much a partner as it is a car. Included in Motorola’s custom Caprice is a voice-controlled computer system, as many as eight cameras, 4G LTE connectivity and a host of functionality that will help cops patrol the streets more efficiently and effectively. For example, the cameras strategically...

Security researchers have started work on a project to combat malware on Android-based devices. Led by researchers at NC State and masterminded by Xuxian Jiang, the Android Malware Genome Project aims to look at the way malware works in an effort to protect current Android builds and future iterations of the mobile operating system. The collaborative effort is a stark contrast from normal antivirus developers, which typically keep their findings private.

T-Mobile USA could merge with another carrier, but a complete sale is 'unlikely,' says CEO
Like UnlikeFiled in: T-Mobile
After it failed to sell off T-Mobile USA to AT&T last December, Deutsche Telekom now says that it may seek to merge the company with an existing US carrier, though "a complete sale is unlikely." The remarks were made during a shareholders meeting in Germany, in which CEO Rene Obermann explained that "we must find other ways to increase the return on our capital, or to reduce our capital investment." Since the failed acquisition T-Mobile USA has gone into a period of restructuring, has which included eliminating a number of jobs throughout the company. And while no specific carriers were named as potential options for a merger, Dish — which is trying to build out an LTE network of its own — p...

Intel Readies Core i5-3350P, Ivy Bridge Quad-Core sans Integrated Graphics
Like UnlikeFiled in: CPUIntelCore i5-3350P
Intel is working on a strange new processor model based on its new 22 nm "Ivy Bridge" silicon, the Core i5-3350P. This part is reported to lack integrated graphics, much like the Core i5-2380P and i5-2450P, from the previous generation. The new i5-3350P will be a quad-core chip, with 6 MB of L3 cache. It comes with a base clock speed of 3.10 GHz, and 3.30 GHz Turbo Boost speed. Like every other Core i5 quad-core processor, it lacks HyperThreading. The lack of integrated graphics also takes a toll on its TDP rating, which is down to 69W. The new Core i5-3350P is expected to be launched in Q3, 2012.

Nokia 808 PureView enables NFC image share, mobile payment apps to come
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesNOKIA808 PureView
Rounding off a busy day of shooting with Nokia's new imaging mistress, the company's Vesa Jutila, Head of Symbian Product Marketing, hooked us up with some more developments for the 808 PureView, specifically to do with NFC. He told us that picture sharing would be possible across devices -- not limiting itself to fellow PureView smartphones, and differentiating it from another hotly anticipated future smartphone. We'd err against using it on those full 38- or 34-megapixel images though, as they will often measure over 10MB and it could take some time. Further, Nokia's already applied for Mastercard and Visa accreditation to get those mobile wallets up and working. We're curating our own exc...

Two versions of the Apple iPhone being tested says report, both with 3.999 inch screen
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesApple
According to 9to5Mac, at Apple HQ, testing is taking place on a couple of prototype handsets, one of which will probably become the next Apple iPhone 5. The prototypes are disguised by being put in thick black shells which are designed to hide the true identity of the phone inside. Two of the models being tested have larger screens than the current 3.5 inches that used to be considered generously sized when the first Apple iPhone was launched in 2007. Since then, we have seen the envelope widen from the 4.3 inches that seemed so large on the HTC HD2 to the 5.3 inches on the Samsung GALAXY Note. The two Apple iPhone prototypes with the larger screen are internally called the iPhone 5,1 and th...

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 redesigned; adds quad-core CPU, S-Pen slot
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsung
As previously reported, after a less than stellar unveiling at Mobile World Congress in February, Samsung delayed the launch of its Galaxy Note 10.1 in order to make revisions. The original Galaxy Note 10.1 featured a 10.1-inch 1280 x 800-pixel display, a dual-core Exynos processor clocked at 1.4GHz, 1GB of RAM and a 3-megapixel rear camera. The slate utilized Samsung’s S-Pen stylus, however unlike its “phablet” counterpart, the device lacked a slot to store the nifty stylus. Samsung has addressed the issue in the redesigned version of its upcoming tablet, and the company added a new quad-core Exynos processor as well, according to Tablet Community. Unfortunately, the South Korea vendor has ...
