Motorola launches two advanced Bluetooth headsets - ELITE SLIVER and ELITE FLIP

Posted on Oct 17, 2011 by MG1

Motorola unveiled two new Bluetooth accessories – ELITE SLIVER and ELITE FLIP, touting them as the “world’s most advanced” headsets. While we’re not sure we agree with this bold statement, we do realize these two rock NFC technology, allowing for super easy pairing with other NFC-enabled mobile devices like the Google Nexus S or Nokia N9.
The first of the two headsets rocks a discrete design, while also offering more than twice as much talk time as the leading competitors. Together with its charging case, the ELITE SLIVER enables autonomy of up to 15 hours of talk time, which is pretty impressive.
As for the Motorola ELITE FLIP, it features the TrueComfort design that lets users choose the m...

iPhone 4S lacks

iPhone 4S lacks "Enable 3G" switch

Posted on Oct 17, 2011 by MG1

If you're among the teeming masses holding a brand new iPhone 4S in your hands, you may be surprised (as we were) to find there's something conspicuously absent from the Network Settings menu on your new device: specifically the ability to manually shut off 3G data. After receiving word, and a screenshot, from a helpful tipster, rocking a 4S on Vodafone's network, we found the same option missing from our own AT&T iteration. Of course this isn't the sort of thing that's likely to have an impact on most users, but if you're the type that likes to squeeze every last bit of juice out of that Apple, the omission could cause some frustration. We gave Apple support a call to see what they had to s...

Keystone ECO Slider turns the iPhone 4/4S into a side-sliding device with QWERTY keyboard

Posted on Oct 17, 2011 by MG1

I’m sure there are some iPhone users out there who really miss a physical keyboard. Sure Apple’s predictive text input is cool, but sometimes you just want an extra screen estate which is used by the on-screen keyboard. For those times you would appreciate if there were a side-sliding keyboard available for the iPhone… And… now it is!
It’s called Keystone ECO Slider and it’s a work of the company called Concord Keystone. The ever-useful accessory connects to the iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S via Bluetooth, and also works like a case, protecting your beloved smartphone while providing you with the extra capability. Of course, even when used, you will still be able to access to all ports and use your ...

Nokia N9: The Most Amazing Phone You’ll Never Buy

Nokia N9: The Most Amazing Phone You’ll Never Buy

Posted on Oct 17, 2011 by MG1

Filed in: Cell PhonesNOKIAN9

Nokia was nice enough to loan me a Nokia N9, its first and almost certainly last MeeGo-powered smartphone, after I not-so-subtly pointed out that I’d love to give the thing a solid whirl. After having played with it for a day now, I’ll tell you why I think it’s a phenomenal smartphone that rivals the best of ‘em, and why you would probably be better off not buying one anyway.
I’ll start off by explaining that I’m not qualified to be a professional smartphone reviewer, whatsoever. We have our former CrunchGear and MobileCrunch slaves for that type of stuff. That said, I’ve used a bunch of smartphones over the years, of all shapes and sizes, and I know damn well what I want.
If you’re looking ...

Google to shutter Buzz, focus on Google+

Google to shutter Buzz, focus on Google+

Posted on Oct 17, 2011 by MG1

Filed in: Google

Google announced on Friday that it is shutting down a number of properties in the coming months, the most notable of which is likely its failed social network, Google Buzz. Best known as that annoying thing under “Inbox” in Gmail, Google Buzz was a Twitter-like service that never gained traction. Buzz encouraged users to share status updates, photos and more that could then be viewed by friends in real time, however it offered no compelling features compared to already established services such as Facebook and Twitter. Google will also shutter several additional services in the near future, including Jaiku, a social network the company acquired in 2007, and Code search, a tool that helped pr...

Verizon's Device Management System shows off HTC Rezound

Posted on Oct 17, 2011 by MG1

Verizon customers with an upgrade to burn have been focusing their attention on three handsets-the Apple iPhone 4S and the upcoming HTC Vigor, Google Nexus Prime and the Motorola DROID RAZR. What is missing from this shopping list is the HTC Rezound which has appeared on Big Red's Device Management System. If the name sounds foreign to you, it is because sources for Droid-Life say that this is the phone that you have known for the last few months as the HTC Vigor
The HTC Rezound is said to offer some sweet, high-end specs as it will be one of the HTC Beats phones which means special earphones come with the handset and outstanding audio comes out of the handset. The Rezound will also feature ...

Motorola teaser counts down to ICS event date, ends a few hours early

Posted on Oct 17, 2011 by MG1

Motorola just unleashed a countdown clock for its Daft Punk-esque tease: Faster. Thinner. Smarter. Stronger. We already knew the Spyder was on its way, but we noticed that the clock stops dangerously close to the Google / Samsung Ice Cream Sandwich event set for this Tuesday, missing the mark by only seven hours. We can't say for sure that Motorola is trying get in on the Google magic, but if it wants to push its news during the same business day, it makes sense for them to reveal their goods ahead of the event's 10pm showtime. The teaser's epileptic flash of buzzword images doesn't tell us much, but it ends with a speedy bullet smartly slicing through the event date. Hit the break to see fo...

Spotify now has more than 250,000 subscribers in the United States, Reuters reported recently. The service also now has more than 2 million paid subscribers around the globe. It also offers a $4.99 monthly option with unlimited streaming and no ads, or a $9.99 subscription that supports offline mode, access from mobile devices, ad-free music playback and unlimited streaming. The latest headphones from Sweden's Jays don't stray too far from the design that defined their predecessors -- but hey, if it ain't broke... The slick earbuds were built to work with iPhones, iPads and iPods, offering up 10mm drivers, a 360 MEMS microphone and a three button controller. The t-JAYS Four are available, as always, in black, and will be begin shipping in November -- or, as the company puts it "when [they're] ready" -- for $129 a pop.

Asus to launch 5 new routers, moving data never looked so good

Asus to launch 5 new routers, moving data never looked so good

Posted on Oct 14, 2011 by MG15

It may just sit in the corner, silently feeding you internet, but why can't it look good while doing it? Asus is one step ahead of us with this one by extending its Black Diamond design to a new range of five more room enhancing products. The baby of the bunch, the RT-N10 LX, stylishly serves up bog standard 802.11n, while the undoubted prom queen is the RT-N66U which brings simultaneous dual band and gigabit speed L/WAN speeds to the packet shifting party. Two more equally svelte models -- the RT-N10 LX and RT-N15 -- cater for those networking inbetweeners, and finally, for those that accessorize, a dual band USB dongle squeezes in 2x2 MIMO as well as matching perfectly with those new shoes...

US judge denies Apple some bans, says Samsung is copying

US judge denies Apple some bans, says Samsung is copying

Posted on Oct 14, 2011 by MG15

Federal court Judge Lucy Koh on Thursday tentatively denied some of Apple's calls for a preliminary US ban on Samsung devices. She believed there wasn't enough of an urgent case to ban the hardware based on a "utility" patent but hadn't issued a definitive verdict on three design-related patents. Apple might have trouble proving the patents were violated, she said.

Koh also wasn't convinced Apple couldn't just recoup any lost damages at the trial itself.

In spite of the apparent relief, Koh made it clear she was likely to side with Apple in the long term. She believed Galaxy Tab models "do infringe" on patents relating to the iPad, even if Apple couldn't prove validity at this stage. In co...

Sprint explains iPhone 4S unlocking policy: phones will be unlocked, then locked, then unlocked again

Sprint explains iPhone 4S unlocking policy: phones will be unlocked, then locked, then unlocked again

Posted on Oct 14, 2011 by MG15

Yeah, that makes just as much sense to us as it does to you. Following yesterday's PR debacle, the final word from Sprint appears to be as follows:
"Sprint's policy is to have the iPhone 4S SIM locked to our network domestically and internationally. At launch, the International SIM will be unlocked. We do expect a SIM lock to be pushed to the devices shortly after launch. We will then allow existing customers in good standing to unlock the SIM for international use if needed in the future."

So, if we're reading that correctly, the iPhone you purchase and activate will be unlocked. Then, a SIM lock will be "pushed" to your device. But, if you've been a good, policy-abiding customer, your iPh...
