NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 launches soon ?
Like UnlikeFiled in: Graphic CardsnVIDIA
More graphics card 'gossip' today. It seems that the GeForce GTX 660 is scheduled to arrive this summer. i've heard gossip about Computex already, but that seems a little too soon to be honest. SweClockers got some info claiming that the card would become available for 2500 Swedish kronors, which is around $350 (including high VAT). Earlier leaks said that it will cost between $299 and $329.

AMD board partners working on 7970 X2 ?
Like UnlikeFiled in: Graphic CardsAMD
Interesting news from TPU today, they noticed via Donim haber that dual-GPU based Radeon HD 7970 X2 cards from board parters might be in the works. That means that the board partners are working on their own dual-GPU solutions based on Tahiti GPUs.
AMD is expected to release a RadeoN HD 7990, but that one seems to be delayed.Initially we expected that one to be released during Computex 2012, but so far nothing substantial has surfaced. DonanimHaber now reports that manufacturers are tired of waiting for actual Radeon HD 7990 model from AMD, so they will come up with something new.

Microsoft: Windows XP costs businesses five times more than Windows 7
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsMicrosoftWindows 7Windows XP
While many of us are thinking about the eventual shift to Windows 8, Microsoft is still trying to convince a number of businesses that moving from XP to Windows 7 is the right decision. To help get its point across, the company sponsored a white paper by analyst firm IDC that looks at the costs associated with the two different operating systems — and it turns out the using XP can be quite a bit more expensive for medium-to-large organizations. According to IDC — which interviewed nine different companies as part of the study — the IT and "end user labor" costs associated with XP can be up to five times more compared to using Windows 7.

Apple quietly rolls out revised iOS 5.1.1 build for GSM iPhone 4
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesOperating SystemsAppleiPhone 4iOS 5
Apple updated iOS to 5.1.1 earlier this month with several minor feature additions, but the build for the GSM iPhone 4 may have needed some additional work: the company has begun distributing a new version of the upgrade. The Next Web reports that iPhone hacker iH8sn0w posted about the update on Twitter; the new version uses build number 9B208 instead of the 9B206 used in the prior version. It's not clear just what the update provides, though the timing is certainly interesting, with today's release of Absinthe providing untethered jailbreaks for all iOS devices on 5.1.1, including the new iPad. GSM iPhone 4 users that have already upgraded to 5.1.1 won't be able to receive the update over t...

Google search users have begun seeing messages at the top of search results informing them that their computers are infected and that they could lose the ability to connect to the internet in the future.
The message looks at first like the sort of malicious pop-up frequently seen when surfing the web's shady underbelly, but on closer inspection is revealed to come straight from Google.
"Your computer appears to be infected," the warning reads.
"We believe that your computer is infected with malicious software. If you don't take action, you might not be able to connect to the internet in the future."

Facebook could be looking to buy Opera browser
Like UnlikeSince its IPO earlier this month, Facebook has wasted no time in expanding its empire -- it's already purchased the Karma mobile gifting service and launched a standalone camera app -- and talk about the social network's next steps doesn't seem to be quieting down. The latest rumor, from Pocket Lint, says Facebook is looking to buy the Opera browser as part of its larger effort to compete against Google, Mozilla and other internet mammoths. According to a source at Opera Software who spoke with Pocket Lint, the company is shopping around for potential buyers and has even imposed a hiring freeze. While it's not too hard to believe that Facebook is readying its horse to enter the browser race,...

It's a rite of passage for newly released Android überphones: the inevitable root. Just one day after Sprint managed to get its flagship device out of customs and into subscribers' hands, comes a one-click solution for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X users. By running a simple script compiled by XDA member Zedomax, EVO 4G LTE owners will be able to install both busybox and superuser hassle-free, giving them the admin privileges required for nearly unrestricted tinkering. Bear in mind, this underground workaround won't unlock that HTC bootloader, so a future filled with custom ROMs is still slightly out of reach. Ready to claim mastery of your device? Sony Mobile on Friday confirmed that it no longer plans to update its Xperia Play smartphone to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich due to compatibility issues with the device’s gaming features, Phone Scoop reported. “Ice Cream Sandwich demands more from the phone hardware than Gingerbread,” a Sony spokesperson said. “Android 4.0 is a more powerful OS and thus, more resource intensive – applications require more RAM, CPU power, and network bandwidth. From internal testing and feedback from the developer community on the beta ROM software release, we have seen a significant decline in user experience when running high performance games, as they are more demanding on the hardware.
