Samsung Galaxy S II in white looks legit; Coming in late August?
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungGalaxy S II
We’re not sure whether we should believe the image above is legit or not. We want to believe and think it makes perfect sense for Samsung to offer the white version of its super-popular Android smartphone to reach even more users. However, aside from that image, we also have another one that looks a bit different. Both of them come from phone retailers, Digitec and Mobilefun, and we’re not sure which one’s official and which one is a Photoshop mockup.
Anyway, we’re hearing the white Samsung Galaxy S II will be released at some point in late August. I’m sure it will sell like crazy with those who haven’t grabbed the original unit because it’s “too black,” going for this one. That’s presuming ...

US Cellular launches the messaging oriented Samsung Character for $39.99
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungCharacter
Last week, we reported that the messaging oriented Samsung Character was bound for the US seeing that it was up on Samsung’s US web site, but there was no mention as to which wireless provider would be offering it.
Well, it appears that US Cellular decided to nap the device for themselves as it’s now currently available for purchase for the affordable 2-year contract price of only $39.99. If owning a smartphone is rather too cumbersome or complex for you, then you might want to consider the Samsung Character instead seeing that it’s nothing more than your middle of the road messaging phone. Nothing really big to boast about, it features a landscape sliding keyboard, 2.8” QVGA touchscreen, 1....

Samsung Galaxy S II with WiMAX stops by the FCC on its way to Sprint
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungGalaxy S II
This Sprint-bound Galaxy S II already posed for one candid and now it also appears to have made a tour of the FCC's testing facilities. Packing CDMA and WiMAX radios, along with a design that matches the leak and and an appropriate model number (SPH-D710), this definitely appears to be the Within we were expecting. So far the only additional clue teased from the FCC documents comes from Wireless Goodness which points out it's 5mm taller and 3mm wider than Euro-spec Galaxy S IIs, but feel free to click the source link and look for yourself.

UK: Samsung Galaxy Tab Android 2.3 updates rolling out as we speak
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsTabletsSamsungGoogleGALAXY TabAndroid 2.3
As expected, Samsung has started rolling out Android 2.3 Gingerbread updates for the Galaxy Tab in the UK. We’re not sure whether everyone can get it at the moment, but as far as we know, it requires Samsung’s Kies software for the update process to take place. That said, it’s safe to bet over-the-air updates will follow shortly.
You’re most likely already familiar with all the software changes included in Gingerbread; they are worth repeating, nonetheless. Among the things you should expect are improved power management capabilities, better Copy/Paste, support for SIP-based VoIP calls, downloads management and so on.
As usual, we advise you to backup your most important information like con...

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Beats Apple iPad 2 In Display Contest
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsSamsungAppleiPad 2GALAXY Tab 10.1
Apple’s iPad 2 has been carrying the torch for the best quality display, but a recent comparison test suggests that it may be ousted by the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. The test was conducted by DisplayMate, comparing the iPad 2 display to that of various other Android tablets in addition to the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, including the Motorola XOOM, Acer Iconia Tab A500, and the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer.
The attributes that DisplayMate focused on were color accuracy, viewing angles, saturation, brightness and contrast, screen reflections, backlight power consumption, and battery life of the display. The worst of the bunch was the Motorola XOOM, which scored poorly across the board. In the middle ...

Acer founder comments on former CEO's move to Samsung
Like UnlikeFiled in: SamsungAcer
On Tuesday, reports surfaced that Acer’s former chief executive officer Gianfranco Lanci has accepted a job at Samsung where he will lead the Korean company’s notebook business. Acer founder Stan Shih spoke with reporters during the ADOC 2.0 technology conference in Taipei on Wednesday and discussed the issue. While the move has yet to be confirmed by Samsung or Acer, Shih noted that it is common for executives to move between firms, especially for better gigs, and that the press should not be surprised. The calm remarks are a bit surprising as there is speculation that Lanci’s move could be a blow to Acer’s laptop business. Acer is currently the world’s No. 4 laptop manufacturer, trailed by...

The information was discovered in a registration made to SK Telecom's T Store Developer Center. A leaked screenshot of an internal Sprint document was obtained by SprintFeed, and shows which devices the carrier has branded as "EOL" (end of life, although end of the line is more appropriate) and when the handsets will be phased out. Some of the phones being removed from Sprint's lineup are household names such as the HTC EVO 4G, the nation's first 4G enabled device. Also being phased out is the carrier's second 4G handset, the Samsung Epic 4G. Both devices have been replaced with newer models like the HTC EVO 3D and the Samsung built Nexus S 4G, offering the latest high-end specs to Sprint customers with the former adding 3D functionality.

Acer CEO may hop to Samsung to head up Europe
Like UnlikeFiled in: SamsungAcer
Industry watchers say former Acer CEO Gianfranco Lanci will join Samsung Electronics in August, insiders said. The executive will help Samsung expand its notebook business in Europe, as he is an expert in managing sales channels in Europe. Sources for Digitimes said Acer itself, ASUS, and HP may be seeking to hire Lanci as well.
Lanci quit at Acer in late March and singed a one-year non-compete agreement when he did so. Samsung will reportedly settle this problem by negotiating with Acer if it decides to hire him.
The acquisition, if it goes through, should help Samsung reach an ambitious goal of increasing notebook sales by 60 percent in 2011.

Unnamed Samsung Android slider headed for AT&T
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsSamsungAT&TGoogleAndroid
If Samsung’s Android lineup is feeling a little sparse on AT&T, don’t worry… there’s about to be a new flagship in town. We have just exclusively received a photo of an unnamed Samsung device complete with sliding QWERTY keyboard that’s headed to AT&T in the coming months. While we don’t have much to go on, the device will sport the four-button Android layout as opposed to Samsung’s typical three-button layout at AT&T’s request, and the QWERTY keyboard even reflects that.

All AT&T Android Phones Released In 2011 Will Get Gingerbread

The HTC Status might be a sort-of-weird, kind-of-gimmicky (with its dedicated Facebook button and all) little piece of kit, but it’s got at least one thing going for it: it’s the only phone on AT&T running on the latest (phone-friendly) version of Android: v2.3, or “Gingerbread”. Not for long, though.
AT&T has just confirmed that all of the Android phones they released in 2011 will be getting the Gingerbread upgrade treatment.
The phones AT&T confirmed:
HTC Inspire 4G
LG Phoenix
Motorola Atrix 4G
Pantech Crossover
Samsung Captivate
Samsung Infuse 4G
That sure looks like all of AT&T’s 2011 Android line up so far, to me. Anyone spot anything that’s missing?
For those of you whose pre-2011 AT&T...
