T-Mobile announces the Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G, available 'later this year'
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungT-Mobile
Hot on the heels of the Galaxy S II's success, T-Mobile's getting another Samsung 4G device brewed up. The new smartphone, called the Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G, isn't set to be available until later this year, which unfortunately means we're getting very little details at the moment. According to the press release, the Blaze will have a 1.5GHz dual-core CPU, 42Mbps HSPA+ and a "brilliant Super AMOLED touch screen." Again, this is all we have been given at the moment, and we're confused by the fact that the display doesn't have an HD in front nor a Plus in back, as well as the phone's use of "Galaxy S" in the title. As always, it's our hope that this CES announcement will be shortly followed ...

Sprint has revealed more details about the Google Galaxy Nexus smartphone on a landing page highlighting its forth-coming 4G LTE network. According to the page, the Sprint version of the Galaxy Nexus will have 16GB of internal storage like the HSPA+ model (the LTE version for Verizon Wireless has 32GB), and it will support Google Wallet, unlike other versions of the Galaxy Nexus. Verizon caused quite a commotion when it said that the version of the Galaxy Nexus that it carries would not support Google Wallet, but it doesn't look like Sprint users will have to worry about that.

Samsung has delivered a streamlined sequel to the original Series 9 notebook in what amounts to a much thinner aluminum unibody package, but also delivering better performance. Samsung claims that the new Series 9 is the result of 33,000 hours in research, design and development. This resulted in the company’s engineers delivering a sequel to the original Series 9 that is 37 percent thinner and 0.4 pounds lighter. Samsung to concentrate on profit rather than handset volume
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesTabletsSamsung
At the CES in Las Vegas, Samsung CEO Choi Gee-sung told Reuters that increasing profitability is the Korean manufacturer's new number one target. Just the day before, the executive said that Samsung plans on becoming the world's number one handset maker this year to break Nokia's 14 year reign on top. Gee-sung said that Samsung has topped Nokia in terms of revenue, will probably top the Finnish based firm in terms of volume shipped this year, but trails other companies when it comes to profits. "Our target should move on to this," Choi said. In the third quarter of last year, Samsung became the top smartphone manufacturer and is building on the success of its well-received Samsung Galaxy S I...

TomTom powering Samsung Wave 3 Bada Maps
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungWave 3
The ink is drying on the agreement 'twixt Samsung and TomTom for the latter's maps and location content will appear on the Wave 3 Bada smartphone. Owners of the device will get access to TomTom's global maps, point of interest information, 3D city maps as well as live traffic updates and speed camera notifications. It's premature to speculate, but given Android and Nokia's free GPS apps, we could see this as the start of a new direction for the mapping company. There's no word on if the service will be free to use or when it'll be available, but we've got plenty of other details tucked below the break.

Better late than never: Samsung Captivate finally gets its Gingerbread update

For all the worn out Samsung Captivate owners out there, today is the day. The update from Android 2.2 Froyo to the Gingerbread goodness is finally out, and you can stop the nail-biting.
We certainly kid, but the update has really taken a while, while the world has moved on to Android 4.0 ICS. Samsung, however, said it is not planning to bring ICS to the Galaxy S and its versions, so Gingerbread will be your last snack with the Samsung Captivate, if you decide to keep it to the end of your two-year contract.

Well here's some pretty fab news: the Samsung Galaxy Note is en route to Canada and that network will boast LTE sometime this quarter. The LTE launch alone gives us tingles up our spines, but coupled with this useful little handset, we're overjoyed. In the interim, have a peek at the press info, our hands-on and give our first impressions a read, won't you?

When consumers are faced with the question of "do I get an iPhone or something else?" a greater percentage of them now associate the "something else" side of the equation as Samsung.
Changewave Research asked 4,000 consumers in North America who were planning on buying a smartphone in the next 90 days which manufacturer they would most likely choose.
Of course, Apple (aka, the iPhone) was at the top of the list. In the December study, more than half, 54%, of those surveyed said the iPhone was the next smartphone on their mind.

The Hand-Stretching Samsung Galaxy Note Finds an LTE Home at AT&T
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungAT&TGALAXY Note LTE
Samsung Galaxy Note made a splash in Europe back in September of last year. Was it a gigantic phone or a tiny tablet? No one knew! Well, the debate is about to come to U.S. soil.
The phone (yes, it's a phone, but just barely) has a 5.3-inch screen. It is, indeed huge. For me, it was usable, but I've got ape-hands. It would make our Kyle Wagner, with his famously tiny hands, explode. I was able to type on it one-handed, but even for me the far side of the screen was a bit of a stretch. The screen is, however, very pretty with 1280x800 HD Super AMOLED resolution. Bright colors, inky blacks. Very nice.
