Samsung has reported record Q4 2012 profits largely thanks to very strong sales of its smartphone range, which cements its position as the number one mobile manufacturer in the world.
Only this year Samsung surpassed Apple as the biggest provider of smartphones in the world, which is all the more impressive when you consider that Samsung has been in the Mobile arena a very short time. Mobile phones are now the technology company's biggest source of revenue.
Results for Q4 came out at 5.2 trillion won, up 73 percent from the same time last year, whilst total profits for 2011 ended at a whopping 16.2 trillion won.

Samsung teases 'Super' OLED TV with CES banner

The CES showfloor doesn't open until next week, but here's one reason to arrive early in Las Vegas. Banners are popping up outside the convention center, and one of the big ones looming over the Central Hall entrance advertises its OLED TV presence. With LG's set also being just 4mm thin, we're curious to see if Samsung will try to match the thickness or try to d...

Sprint seems to be busy with its announcements today, and the latest comes in the form of an unassuming-looking advert on CNet. Ordinarily, a US carrier announcing yet another carrier-specific version of the same device isn't big news, but what's interesting about the Sprint Galaxy Nexus is that it notes the inclusion of a 1.5 GHz SoC.

About a month ago the French motion was denied and now we're learning that an Judge Marina Tavassi of the Italian Tribunale di Milano has said "negato" as well. What's next? The G1X (not to be confused with Panasonic's GX-1) has a huge-for-a-compact 1.5-inch, 14.3-megapixel sensor and a 28-112mm zoom lens that starts at f/2.5. It'll shoot RAW and 1080p video, and will feature what sounds like the same DIGIC 5 image processor as the S100, enabling multi-area white balance and advanced noise reduction. There aren't any details on what the camera actually looks like or what sort of interface it'll use, but we can't wait to see it fully unveiled.

Koreans won't be the only ones sticking DVDs into exceptionally thin laptops this year: Samsung's Series 5 Ultra laptops are now available for pre-order at J&R. The first time we heard of the aluminum-clad ultrabooks, we didn't have a firm grasp of specs or pricing, but the e-tailer's seemingly spilled all the beans ahead of CES. There are two models, an optical-drive-equipped 14-incher for $949.99 and a 13.3-inch machine for $899.99, but they're otherwise nearly identically specced: both come with a dual-core 1.6GHz Intel Core i5-2467M processor, 4GB of DDR3 memory, a 500GB hard drive with 16GB of solid state storage cache (increasingly popular these days), a 1366 x 768 display, integrated ...
