Google Plus for iPhone, iPad Waiting for Apple's Approval
Like UnlikeFiled in: Google
Google Plus has been all the rage the past week, with some users saying that it’s a pretty formidable alternative to Facebook. The social network already has a fully working Android app, but the iOS app has yet to land in the iTunes store. On the bright side, it seems to be waiting on Apple’s approval, so it’s pretty much ready to go. Hopefully, we’ll be seeing the app on the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad in just weeks.

Google Realtime Search Vanishes as Twitter Deal Ends
Like UnlikeFiled in: Google
Over the weekend, Google’s experimental Realtime Search page mysteriously vanished, and now we know why. It tuns out that the search giant’s deal with social networking service Twitter expired, leaving Realtime with a real lack of data. Google says the feature will be coming back, but has not said when or in what form.
Back in 2009, Google inked a deal with Twitter to pipe all its data into Google for use in Realtime. While the direct feed has been shut off, Google has stressed that its web crawlers can still index all the public posts on Twitter. It just won’t be so much real time.

Picasa Granted Nearly Unlimited Storage Thanks to Google+
Like UnlikeFiled in: Google
The changes kicked off by the Google+ launch continue to reverberate through other Google products. Google’s photo sharing and storage service, Picasa is getting a change for the better. For users of Google+, any photos uploaded to the social service are stored on Picasa and there is no storage limit. That’s right, nearly unlimited storage.
There are a few restrictions on the nature of the content, though. Images are scaled down to no larger than 2048x2048 pixels, but video up to 1080p and less than 15 minutes in length is allowed. Images manually uploaded to Picasa that are larger than allowed will count against the 1GB of free Picasa space. After that, all photos will be resized.

Google slides Prizes into beta, helps you get real paid
Like UnlikeFiled in: Google
Come on down! You can be the next contestant on the Prizes site. That was overkill, we know, but it's a necessary introduction into a new world of online solution-based social gaming pioneered by the Slide team. Acquired by the Goog back in 2010, the low profile entertainment-driven app developer has been hard at work making the web 'more social' and filling its Big Daddy's pockets. Debuting in classic Google beta form, Prizes takes your Twitter or Facebook accounts and signs you up for cash prize-winning, user-created contest shenanigans. In case you missed that fine point, we'll reiterate -- users design the challenges, you post a solution (or vice versa). Like the $40 "Give my Dad a makeo...

Google+ quietly adds check-ins
Like UnlikeFiled in: Google
Lets people know the where as well as what
Earlier this week, Google unveiled Google+ for both computers and mobile devices. Having previously touted many of the tools it integrated into the social networking service, such as Circles, Hangouts, and video chats, it has also without mention included check-ins. On the new service, the addition will let people in a Circle know where they are as well as what they are doing.
Check-ins aren't new to Google. It has had check-ins for Google Latitude since February.

Google Wants to Buy Hulu?!
Like UnlikeFiled in: Google
If it's true that Google really wants to buy Hulu, is it possible the streaming television will harmoniously exist under the same roof as YouTube? Will it be like Stepbrothers, where they initially hate each other, then end up best friends?
According to the LA Times, Google is in a bidding war with Yahoo and Microsoft for control of the service, which is being unloaded by the collective of cable networks who currently own it. Google TV would be a whole hell of a lot more functional if Hulu were in its stable, and im sure some of the excellent Hulu backend tech would work its way into YouTube, which would also be nice (autoplay, hello!)

Apple, EMC, Ericsson, Microsoft, Research in Motion, and Sony joined forces to purchase the patents, which cover wireless, wireless 4G, data networking, optical, voice, Internet, service provider, semiconductors, and other patent portfolios.
"Following a very robust auction, we are pleased at the outcome of the auction of this extensive patent portfolio", George Riedel, chief strategy officer at Nortel, said in a statement. "The size and dollar value for this transaction is unprecedented, as was the significant interest in the po...

Google Chrome takes 20% global browser share
Like UnlikeFiled in: Google
Google Chrome took 20 per cent of the global web browser market in June 2011, according to figures from StatCounter.
These stats measure actual usage and not just the number of downloads for each browser, making Chrome's leap from under three per cent two years ago, to 20 per cent today all the more impressive.
Meanwhile, Microsoft's Internet Explorer usage dropped from 53 to 44 per cent between June 2010 and June 2011.
Red Panda population decline
Also dipping is the ever-popular Firefox, which dropped from 31 to 28 per cent over the course of the year – a fairly moderate decline, all things considered.

Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesGoogleNexus S 4G
While the Google Nexus S was one of the four lucky phones to get the new video calling feature in Skype for Android, the Nexus S 4G variant for Sprint had no such luck. Well, today is another day, and it looks like Skype has added video calling support for the WiMAX version of the Nexus S. Version 2.0.0.47 is available now, and it adds support for the Nexus S 4G on Sprint and the Nexus S in Europe, which was also lacking video calling. Skype did not provide a reason why these phones didn't have the feature from the get-go.

Gmail and Calendar refreshed with Google+ matching themes
Like UnlikeFiled in: Google
It isn’t just Google+ which is new from the search giant this week. The company has also kicked off a significant refresh of its Gmail and Google Calendar services, with the interfaces of both getting stripped down. According to Google, “adding countless features to Gmail has made it an increasingly powerful communication hub, but along the way the interface has also become more cluttered and complex.”
