Android Market supports multiple accounts in new version
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsGoogleAndroid
One of the things that has been a limitation and annoyance to Android users is that the Android Market will only use the primary Google account associated with the phone, even though many other Google apps allow you to switch between accounts. Hidden in the latest update to the Market that was announced by Google is the ability to change the account that is used by the Android Market.
Previously, if you wanted to use a different Google account with the Android Market than the one you initially set the phone up with, you had to hard reset the device and start from scratch. With the new option, all it takes is two clicks to switch between accounts, a godsend for people who might have purchased...

How One Site Beat Google's Anti-Spam Update the Right Way
Like UnlikeFiled in: Google
When Google updated its search algorithm a few months back, many so-called content farms saw their search ranking take a big hit. One site that feels it was unfairly targeted is now claiming that by making a few changes (some of them very minor) they were able to claw back significant search traffic. In fact, HubPages says it has gotten back to its pre-update traffic levels.
The site was negatively affected due to the presence of the typical low-cost SEO content Google was going after. But HubPages also produced a fair amount of high-quality articles. CEO Paul Edmondson searched for ways to counteract the search update, but tactics like tightening editorial standards were mostly ineffective....

Talk of an Amazon Android tablet has been hotting up for months now with Jeff Bezos repeatedly hinting that the company is set to go further than the current Kindle. Now a new report appears to have nailed firm details of what we can expect from the Amazon tablet and when we’re likely to see it.
The story, penned in part by Yukari Iwatani Kane, a reporter with a strong track record of revealing big moves from firms including Apple, says Amazon is on track to release its tablet by October. It also offers intriguing details about the hardware…
The report claims the first Amazon Android tablet will arrive with a 9in screen and without a camera. That would put it at a disadvantage versus the iP...

Google+ to get an address book uploader soon
Like UnlikeFiled in: Google
I am not that big of a social network user. I have Google+ account as all of us here at SlashGear do but so far other than adding a very short profile I haven’t embraced what Google is offering. I know a lot of people have and for many the big challenge is getting all of your contacts into Google+ from other social networks like Facebook. It would seem with Facebook moving to block the export of friends from its site the dominant social network is a little nervous about competition.
Google knows your pain in trying to get a large number of contacts into Google+ from other applications and it is working to make that importing easier. Google’s Rohit Khare has announced that Google is working o...

Google Won't Let Ex-Employee Release Book Called Social Circles
Like UnlikeFiled in: Google
What follows is the awkward tale of Paul Adams's (ex-UX Researcher guy at Google-turned-Facebook advertising product manager) Social Circles research book, which he wrote while working for Google. Research which contributed directly to Google+, particularly its friends groups.
Having joined Facebook in January some seven months before the launch of Google+, you can imagine he was both anticipating and dreading the launch of his pet project. Now describing the launch being like "bumping into an ex-girlfriend," Adams' obviously keen to finally launch his book—only trouble is, Google isn't. Supposedly the big G gave Adams the thumb's up in June last year, telling him to publish Social Circles—t...

Twitter for Android gets push notifications and multiple accounts
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsGoogleAndroid
Twitter for Android has a new update which brings some sorely needed new features: multiple account support and push notifications. Now, you can easily switch between multiple accounts in case you're a power user. But, the big news for more casual users is push notifications.
One of the biggest drains on an Android battery are apps that constantly poll for data in the background, and Twitter apps are one of the biggest culprits. One way to try to fix this is to lower the polling intervals, but by doing that you might miss @replies or direct messages. With push notifications, you no longer have to worry. Users can choose whether you want notifications of new tweets, replies and/or direct mes...

Judge says Google knew they were going to violate Java patents
Like UnlikeFiled in: Google
Google’s mobile operating system Android has been in the headlines recently, and not for what new innovative features are due to arrive in the next version dubbed Ice Cream Sandwich or because of a new highly popular app. Because of Google’s lack of patents in the mobile industry, companies who opt to use Android to make smartphones and tablets have been entering into licensing agreements with Microsoft as to avoid any litigation. Many are wondering why Microsoft isn’t going after Google directly, and some have even suggested that a potential new business model for Microsoft would be to earn a few dollars from every device sold running Android. Anyway, there’s another big company feuding wit...

Google Nexus Prime confirmed by Samsung?
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesGoogleGALAXY Nexus
Samsung has inadvertently confirmed that it will be the creator of the next Google Nexus device.
A (translated) Tweet sent from the Samsung Mobile Romania account said the company is planning to get the phone on the market for 'late 2011':
"The production will be started now, most likely [to arrive] in late 2011. It [Nexus 3] will bring Android 4.0 on the market."
Real or no real?
Of course, given this is a translation it shouldn't be taken as totally factually accurate, which could mean that it's more of a commentary on the situation, something the the Samsung Mobile Romania account is now saying in response to user queries:
"Hello! It's about a discussion around the rumor of releasing the...

Google Voice adds spam filter, lets solicitors get caught in the web
Like UnlikeFiled in: Google
Remember when your legitimate emails were flanked by dozens of grammatically nightmarish blurbs, peddling pills, x-rated services, and Nigerian scams? If you use Gmail, most of that garbage no longer arrives in your inbox, instead making its way to a spam folder, where it's held for a month before ending its journey at the Google graveyard. Now, Mountain View is applying that same concept to your Google Voice calls, flagging unsolicited calls, texts, and voicemails, then booting them to a spam folder. The company's servers use collected data from other users marking similar messages as spam, as well as propriety identification tools, to help ensure that those generic creditor or vacation swe...

Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsGoogleAndroid 3.0

The system is being provided by SRI, a California-based non-profit research institute, whose inventions range from the ultrasound to automatic checks processing.
