Patent Reveals that Google TV Voice Control is in the Works
Like UnlikeFiled in: Google
If you're rocking an Android phone and a Google TV you may be in luck. There's an app in the works that would allow you to control your Google TV with your voice. The app will utilize the phone for capturing the commands and display the results on your TV using information like the time, date and your GPS data. If you ask "When's the game on?" for example, you'll get results for local teams. It's a pretty slick setup.
What might be even cooler though is that you'll be able to issue commands to your TV from as far as a quarter mile away. Want to get your favorite show ready to go or start buffering a streaming movie? You can do it. It works for music too, so whether you're hosting a pa....

Google sued by Safari user over cookie debate
Like UnlikeFiled in: Google
Google is facing a new lawsuit for violating privacy rights on Apple's Safari web browser, Bloomberg reported. An Illinois man, Matthew Soble, claimed in the suit that Google sidesteps the computer settings that are designed to block monitoring of a user's whereabouts on the web. The lawyers representing Soble alleged that Google did so willfully and knowingly.
Soble aims to make the lawsuit a class-action case, hoping to attract other plaintiffs upset at the shift. The lawsuit was filed in a Delaware court.

Ubuntu coming soon to multi-core Android devices
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsGoogleLinuxAndroidUbuntu
Canonical announced on Tuesday that the popular open-source Ubuntu operating system will soon be coming to multi-core Android devices. Users will be able use Android on their smartphones and Ubuntu as a desktop once the device is docked with a keyboard and monitor. Both operating systems will run simultaneously on the same device and have the ability to share contacts, messages and other common services. “The phone experience is pure Android – it’s a normal Android phone,” Canonical stated. “When the device is connected to a computer screen, however, it launches a full Ubuntu desktop on the computer display. It’s exactly the same desktop used by millions of enterprise and home users on their...

Future version of Google Chrome may suggest more secure passwords for you
Like UnlikeFiled in: Google
Google is considering adding password generation to future versions of Chrome, which could increase the use of more secure passwords. The system, as outlined on the Chromium Projects' developer documentation, would auto-detect sign-up forms on web pages and suggest unique and complex passwords that are much more secure than what users generally come up with. Since Chrome can already remember passwords, this would keep password generation and management entirely in the browser, eliminating the overuse of the same password across multiple services. If this sounds familiar, it's because 1Password and LastPass already offer the same service.

Google bypasses IE privacy says Microsoft
Like UnlikeFiled in: MicrosoftGoogle
Hot off the news that Safari’s privacy measures for users had been bypassed by Google last week, Microsoft is joining in by noting that their Internet Explorer web browser’s privacy controls had been modified in a similar manner. Protection tips have been offered up by Microsoft and they’ve taken this opportunity to push Google into the mud once more as they continue to defend themselves against privacy naysayers. Microsoft has reportedly contacted Google to ask it to “commit to honoring P3P privacy settings for users of all browsers.”

Chrome for Android to get big updates in the next year
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsGoogleAndroid
Google's senior vice president of Chrome and Apps, Sundar Pichai, sat down and talked about Chrome in all of its iterations with CNet and more specifically, he talked about the new Chrome Beta for Android and the improvements that we can expect to see in future updates. Chrome Beta hit the Android Market just a couple weeks ago, but the improvements it brought in speed and HTML5 performance were instantly noticeable.
Google has always been a company that is pretty open about gathering input from users and using that data to inform the updates that get pushed to Google products, and Chrome for Android is no different. According to Pichai, Google has heard the cries from power users and will ...

Google Search no longer just for searching, now for sharing too
Like UnlikeFiled in: Google
Google has added a Google+ share button and notification box that allows you to share your thoughts on the company's social networking site Google+ directly from the homepage or any search result.
The new addition, which appeared on Monday on the .com and .co.uk sites, non only breaks the usual minimal design of the Google homepage but allows you, for the first time, to do something other than search while searching.

Motorola unveils the list of phones that will get the Ice Cream Sandwich update
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsMotorolaGoogleAndroid 4.0
Motorola was kind enough to reveal the list of devices that will get the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich updates. As far as we can tell, pretty much all phones and tablets with a dual-core processor are on the list, which is a good thing. On the other hand, it’s not clear when most devices will get their ICS services.

CyanogenMod Android team ask for community cash support
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsGoogleAndroid
You won’t see this sentence very often: CyanogenMod is asking for money. As you may well know, the Android community uses the modification to Android known as CyanogenMod more than any other custom ROM, hands down. And today they’re asking that you help them out with their otherwise free service by donating some cash to help support the purchase of “a couple of solid, stable Xeon-class servers with large amounts of RAM and fast disks.” They’re currently using PayPal, which is unfortunate for the apparent mobs of users boycotting the service at the moment (there’s a lot of overlap with the modding community) but you’ve got other options as well.

Google's Dart lands in Chromium tech preview
Like UnlikeFiled in: Google
Leaves weren't the only things flying around Mountain View last Autumn if you remember, Google also unleashed its Dart programming language. Now, developers can get their hands on a tech preview version of Chromium, with the Dart virtual machine baked right in. There are Mac and Linux binaries available today, but no details about other platforms (ahem Windows) at this time. The preview lets you run your programs directly on the Dart VM, skipping the separate compilation stage. While it's just for developers at the minute, there are plans to include this in standard Chrome releases in the future. Aim at the source link after the break for the full details.

Google wins back typo domains
Like UnlikeFiled in: Google
Google has won the rights to a bunch of typo-squatted domain names, including Gougle.com, Go0gle.com and, our favourite, goggleemail.com.
This may shock you, but there are people out there who prey on your fat-fingered address bar typos like the carrion vultures of the 'net.
In this case, it was one anonymous outfit sitting on over 30 domains which will now be transferred over to Google's ownership and will probably redirect users to whatever bit of Google it was they seem to be trying to reach.

Google may face FTC investigation over Safari privacy scandal
Like UnlikeFiled in: Google
Earlier, news spread quickly that Google was caught bypassing Apple’s privacy settings to track iOS users with mobile Safari. Not surprisingly, the top Consumer Watchdog thinks Google is deceiving users with these questionable practices and has asked the FTC to investigate.
“Google has clearly engaged in ‘unfair and deceptive’ practices,” said John M. Simpson, Consumer Watchdog’s Privacy Project director. “They have been lying about how people can protect their privacy in their instructions about how to opt out of receiving targeted advertising.”Anyway, we actually gave you this story a couple days ago from the perspective of Apple's huge sales, which still is a pretty impressive story. But,...

Samsung Epic 4G Touch Ice Cream Sandwich update in works
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesOperating SystemsSamsungGoogleEpic 4G TouchAndroid 4.0
We all know Samsung will rollout the Android 4.0 update for its super-popular Galaxy S II smartphone later this year. However, Sprint customers may be wondering whether they’ll have to wait longer, since their particular version of the device (Epic 4G Touch) is specific, made to sing along the carrier’s WiMAX network. Plus, Sprint (and other mobile operators for that matter) always want to test the phone software thoroughly before releasing it to the general public, the process that usually ends-up in prolonged wait time for the end-users.
