Samsung on Monday took the wraps off another new addition to its Android tablet lineup, the Galaxy Note 10.1. Like the supersized “phablet” it joins in the Galaxy Note family, the Note 10.1 includes Samsung’s S Pen stylus for drawing, note-taking, highlighting and much more. Sadly, this still isn’t the high-definition slate we’ve been waiting for so it looks like Samsung is shooting to launch its Retina-like tablet later this year. Google now activates 850,000 Android devices every day

Google's vice president of mobile, Andy Rubin, has just revealed that the company is activating over 850,000 Android smartphones and tablets every day. This is a jump up from the 700,000 per day figure that was announced late last year and shows that the Android ecosystem is continuing to grow at an aggressive rate.

Google has built a "firewall" between Android team and Motorola

There has been a constant bit of concern from the Android community that Google would give an unfair advantage to Motorola after the acquisition went through. And, although there is almost no reason to believe that this will actually happen, or that if it were to happen that Google wouldn't do something really good with it, the fears over this concern have been continually played upon by Google's rivals.

As we’ve reported previously (and as you surely know from web ads) Google is retooling its privacy policies, merging more than five dozen different privacy policy statements into a single one that is simpler to read. They’ve been aggressive about trying to get people to actually read what’s in it, and the long and short of it is they aren’t changing your settings or changing what sort of data is shared beyond Google, the only significant change is that your data within Google products will now be shared with other Google products you use – so trying to find friends on YouTube will be easier because they can leverage your contacts data to help you auto-complete a search form....

Google Voice Gets Nifty Customization Options Thanks To G+ Circles

The Plus-ification of Google continued yesterday as the company announced it was offloading G+ features onto yet another Google service. But unlike the incredibly annoying (both in name and use) Search Plus Your World, this update's actually pretty useful; Google Voice users will be able to personalize their phone line's behavior using their G+ circles. Don't want to mix business with pleasure? With the new Circles functionality, you could have separate voicemail recordings for friends and coworkers -- and that's just the tip of the iceberg.

Google's privacy policies have come under fire in the past, but when it comes to the 'do-not-track' feature mentioned in the Obama administration's online "Consumer Bill of Rights," the Sultan of search won't be pushing anyone's buttons. Instead, it will givers the opportunity to press a button, embedded in Chrome, to initiate the DNT feature and tell websites to back off.

Google tablet - 7-inch device in the works?

Google will jump into the tablet market this year with its own 7-inch device, according to a DisplaySearch analyst.
The tablet market has experienced rapid growth over the past couple of years thanks to devices such as the iPad 2, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Kindle Fire and it looks as though Google wants in on that cake, with its Ice Cream Sandwich operating system providing it with a good starting point.
Speaking to Cnet, analyst Richard Shim suggested that a self-branded, 7-inch (1280x800) Google tablet running Ice Cream Sandwich would start production in April.

Acer Liquid Glow to help define budget Android 4.0

Acer has followed up the CloudMobile with a second smartphone due at Mobile World Congress. The Liquid Glow will carry Acer's lightly skinned version of Android 4.0, but with a more modest 3.7-inch display. The newer, curvier design will be its own highlight, with colors such as Alpine White and Sakura Pink on the back that will be matched to the display at the front.
A five-megapixel camera with a flash is standard, and NFC is new to Acer's Liquid line. The short-range wireless here is useful for Android Beam device-to-device sharing with other Android 4.0 owners as well as the usual tag reading and mobile payments. Google Selling Clearwire Stake at Huge Loss

Google intends to sell its stake in Clearwire, but it will be at a big loss.
In a Friday filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Google said it will sell the 29 million shares of stock it owns in Clearwire at $1.60 per share. The stake will first be offered to existing shareholders, but if no one bites, it will open up to the public.
But as Dow Jones noted, that will be a loss of approximately $453 million or 91 percent.
"Google periodically rebalances its investments based on its goals and its evaluation of market conditions," Google said in the SEC filing.

Google Drive cloud storage may include SDK for third-party software

Google Drive, the cloud storage service rumored to be launching soon, looks like it will include support for third-party apps and a software development kit. Google Operating System has looked at the source code for Google Docs and found several mentions of an SDK in conjunction with Google Drive, including a mention of "google-apps.drive-sdk" and an SDK "open with" command. This isn't conclusive proof, but it suggests that you'll be able to open Google Drive files with other applications.

Google cuts back e-book affiliate program

Google has closed off its online affiliate program for digital books to the public, saying it just didn’t pan out the way the company expected. The program attracted a lot of users but very few who actually sent through worthwhile sales. The initiative was only launched about eight months ago, in June, and now Google says it will work better if it operates as a private program with select partners.
