Here's how to trade in your "old iPad" and get the best value for it
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsAppleiPad 3
The new iPad arrived with a bang on Wednesday and you’ve had enough time to read our initial thoughts, check out the specs, drool on that new Retina display and appreciate its addition of LTE connectivity with no battery life sacrifices. In a nutshell, you want it. Just like you wanted the iPad 2 and just like you wanted the OG iPad.
But do you just stack it up along with that “old iPad” that just now looks terribly outdated in your eyes? And are you ready to just feed Apple another $500 or more without getting anything back for your iPad?
There are a couple of ways to sell your old iPad and not feel all that bad for getting the new one. You probably know the standard drill. You auction the ...

iPad's A5X chip may not come to the next iPhone
Like UnlikeFiled in: Apple
Unless you live under a rock, you probably know that the new iPad was unveiled on Wednesday. And one of the things that makes it better than its predecessor is the new A5X chip, which has two main processing cores and four additional cores that handle graphics processing.
Now lets go back in history for a minute. Remember how the A4 chip debuted under the hood of the first-gen iPad? The iPhone 4 eventually launched with an A4 processor too. Then the dual-core A5 was first used in the iPad 2 only to make it to the iPhone 4S afterwards. But according to analysts, Apple might not follow suit for the next iPhone iteration. Or in other words, the A5X might not be used for the next iPhone.

Redsn0w jailbreaking tool updated to support iOS 5.1
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsAppleiOS 5
It hadn’t even been 24 hours since Apple released iOS 5.1, and the hacking community has already let loose the first tethered jailbreaking tool for the updated OS. According to Redmond Pie, the iPhone Dev Team has updated Redsn0w to allow users to jailbreak their iOS 5.1 devices. The jailbreak is tethered, however, so users will be required to connect their devices to a computer each time they are powered on. The exploit works for all devices running iOS 5.1 with the exception of the iPhone 4S and iPad 2.

Apple releases 'supplemental update' to Lion to fix Time Machine restore issues
Like UnlikeFiled in: Apple
Apple's most recent update to Mac OS X Lion has been rather troublesome for users. Shortly after the 10.7.3 update rolled out, users started reporting widespread and severe app crashing, causing Apple to pull the update for a bit and roll out a modified download. Even that update appears to have had some issues — there were apparently problems for some users trying to restore from a Time Machine backup. This has caused Apple to release a strangely-named 'supplemental update' for OS X version 10.7.3, which just rolled out today. Fortunately, this update is a tiny 38KB download, but it remains to be seen yet whether this will fix the issues (or cause new ones). For the brave among you, you can...

iPad 3 to run iOS 6.0
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsAppleiPad 3
This week sites appear to be finding a new operating system popping up in their access logs, these logs showing not just an unknown iPad version with iOS 6.0 and a new version of a web browser. This version of the iPad has been said more than a coincidental amount of times to be having a high definition display and an improved set of hardware to support it, as well as a slightly less likely ability to run on 4G LTE networks across the nation. Signs in access logs today suggest that this device will be running a new version of the iOS Apple mobile operating system along with a version 535.8 of the web browser that comes with the operating system.

Do Apple Employees Already Have iPads with iOS 6?
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsApple
Everyone's been digging through their web analytics looking for clues about the next iPad. But the rush to sift out details about new bits of hardware may have turned up Apple's next mobile operating system. Ars Technica claims that iPads running iOS 6 have been visiting its page, and the IP addresses locate them in Cupertino.
The iOS 6-using visitors are on top of visits from devices with a 2048x1536 resolution, which is the same as the rumored HD display attached to the next iPad. That said, user agents are easily spoofed by simple plugins for a number of browsers, so proceed with caution. Whatever the case, we probably won't see iOS 6 until later in the year, but if Ars is right, it's alr...

Apple could force Motorola to destroy phones
Like UnlikeFiled in: AppleMotorola
Apple has won its patent case against Motorola in a German court relating to the 'overscroll bounce function in the photo gallery app', which appears on some of Motorola's smartphones and tablets.
The dispute is over the same patent Apple pulled Samsung up for last year, which resulted in Samsung releasing a software update changing the functionality of its menus.
What this means for Motorola is that it will have to update its mobile devices with a new software patch which removes the patented technology.

Apple TV stock shortages appear, sources say new model imminent
Like UnlikeFiled in: Digital Media PlayersAppleTV 2gen
It looks like there may be a little more fact behind some of the Apple TV fiction we've been hearing over the past few days. According to sources (as well as Apple Store stock counters), the current Apple TV is becoming increasingly sparse at stores around the country, with most locations reporting no availability at all right now. More tellingly, at all of the stores where the device is out of stock, availability is listed as starting on or after March 7th — the day of Apple's big iPad event — which seems to suggest that something new is indeed coming. The device can be ordered online, and there are a few locations which show the current model in-stock, but that seems to be the exception, n...

Apple Inc., Made In America
Like UnlikeFiled in: Apple
There are two sayings on the back of every Apple product: Designed By Apple in California and Assembled in China. These statements attempt to say that even though the products might be assembled in a different country, Apple is an American company — a fact Apple proclaimed loudly today with a new web page titled Creating jobs through innovation.
Apple has been under fire lately regarding its overseas manufacturing partners. Apple hired the Fair Labor Association to conduct voluntary audits of the final assembly partners, including Foxconn’s massive Asian facilities. But consumers and activists alike aren’t buying it. It’s a smokescreen, they say. Foxconn will just hide the children and give ...

AnyVoice adds more than 40 accents to Siri
Like UnlikeFiled in: Apple
Siri might already speak in English, but if you want to really freak people out or just have some fun, why don’t you make your humble virtual iPhone assistand speak in accents? That’s what AnyVoice brings to you and it’s now available on Cydia, the iPhone’s jailbreak store.
You can download it by loading up ModMyi repository, which happens to be one of the default three in Cydia. Now, of course, you’d need to first jailbreak your handset in order to use download AnyVoice.
With over 40 accents to choose from you definitely won’t get bored. AnyVoice brings the good ol’ French accent in town or you can try and have fun with Siri speaking with Russian accent. Not all of them are equally good, an...

Cydia creator explains why the jailbreak app store often loads very slowly
Like UnlikeFiled in: Apple
Those of you with jailbroken iPhones and iPads know well about Cydia - the unregulated by Apple third-party app catalog on iOS. It allows many of the apps you’d never see on the original App Store - tethering application, themes and others, but while Apple’s official store is pretty snappy, on Cydia you’re often forced to wait for quite a while. Jay Freeman, aka saurik, used reddit as the stage to explain why this is so and what’s happening so that it could change.
The biggest reason for the slowdown is the fact that Cydia loads its whole database with packages, which is megabytes of data every time, while the App Store only loads 25 apps at a time and offers a load more button for the rest.

Apple hiring automotive integration engineers in China?
Like UnlikeFiled in: Apple
A job notice on LinkedIn spotted by China Car Times now has the industry abuzz with speculation that Apple may be preparing to enter the iOS-automobile integration market, long an area where the company has enjoyed third-party success due to consumer demand. Third-party accessories for aftermarket integration along with the willingness of car companies to engineer custom solutions may have spurred Apple to consider direct involvement.
The listing shows the company seeking "Supplier Quality Engineer" with experience in die casting, stamping, plastic injection and other technologies involved in making custom components for car dashboards. While it is possible that Apple simply wants to hire so...

iPad 3 launch may include 8GB low-cost iPad 2
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsAppleiPad 2iPad 3
Apple may be introducing two iPad 3 models and one lower-cost 8GB version of the iPad 2 at next week’s event, according to Digitimes, citing sources in the company’s upstream supply chain. Although this seems like an odd move, the source claims that the cheaper iPad 2 model will help Apple cover different segments to defend against upcoming Windows 8 tablets.
There’s been plenty of speculation around the iPad 3 with the most prominent rumor being the use of a Retina Display-like screen with Full HD resolution of 2048 x 1536 or a pixel density of 264dpi. As a result, some reports claim that the next-gen iPad may be called the iPad HD instead of the iPad 3.
