IBM blocks Siri over privacy concerns

IBM blocks Siri over privacy concerns

Posted on May 24, 2012 by MG3

If you happen to be an IBM’er who owns an iPhone, you will no longer be able to use Siri, at least while in the office.
Facing growing privacy concerns pertaining to the “bring your own device (BYOD)” trend, many companies are attempting to figure out ways to ensure private company data is protected. Several mobile services store some of your personal data, be it contact lists or voice search history on your device, leaving certain data ripe for the picking. Siri is a well-known offender, and Apple’s privacy policy openly states that they store your Siri search items on its servers to better improve Siri and other Apple products and services.

HTC One XL coming to Germany, drags LTE with it

HTC One XL coming to Germany, drags LTE with it

Posted on May 24, 2012 by MG3

In the US, Asia and Australia they've already had their fill of the HTC One XL. But, in Europe, they've had to make do with the lame ol' HSPA+ One X. That is, until now. German carrier Vodafone has announced that it'll be the first to bring the XL home, complete with triband LTE in tow. Just like the American "One X," the new Euro XL ditches the quad-core Tegra 3 for a 1.5GHz dual-core S4, primarily because the NVIDIA solution doesn't support LTE. Though, as an added bonus, we're sure it helps extend the life of that 1,800 mAh cell inside. Vodafone will get the handset first in early June in a nice matte black, while Deutsche Telekom and O2 Germany will score the device later -- potentially ...

Samsung Galaxy S III now on sale in Dubai

Posted on May 23, 2012 by MG1

While most of us are still waiting for the Samsung Galaxy S III to finally arrive, it appears that the much-anticipated smartphone is already on sale in Dubai. The news comes first from Reddit, where one user spotted a "now available" poster for the phone in a local mall, and spoke to a sales clerk to determine that the white variant of the phone was on sale for $666. Meanwhile, a Verge reader has also sent in some pics of a Galaxy S III apparently purchased in Dubai for AED2,499 (around $680). The pics show the phone itself as well as the accessories that come packed in the box. The news should make the millions who pre-ordered the phone quite jealous, but the rest of us will still have to ...

Motorola Ice Cream Sandwich update -- DROID 3 and DROID X2 left in the dark

Motorola Ice Cream Sandwich update -- DROID 3 and DROID X2 left in the dark

Posted on May 22, 2012 by MG1

Motorola recently updated its Android release timeline and revealed that certain devices will remain on Android 2.3 rather than receiving an upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The handsets in question are both modern and more than capable of running the latest Android operating system, however the vendor claims the latest software won’t “improve” the devices, and that’s why updates will not be released. Both the DROID 3 and DROID X2 will remain on Android 2.3, despite the fact that both handsets run dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processors and were released not even a year ago.

ZTE Tania coming to China soon, processor upgraded to 1.4 Ghz

ZTE Tania coming to China soon, processor upgraded to 1.4 Ghz

Posted on May 22, 2012 by MG1

Unwiredview reports that the ZTE Tania may be less than 10 days away from shipping in China.
ZTE sales director Wei Xiaodong told CNMO that the Tania will be in Chinese stores before the end of this month.
The handset from the Chinese company has so far only been distributed in UK and Europe.
The smartphone will see an interesting specs update prior to its release there – instead of a 1 Ghz processor it will now sports a 1.4 Ghz processor – an interesting choice when the handset’s main weakness is its 4GB storage rather than the more generous 8 GB or 16 GB.

Security vulnerability found with the ZTE Score M can allow others to control the device

Security vulnerability found with the ZTE Score M can allow others to control the device

Posted on May 21, 2012 by MG1

Oh my goodness people! We really need to sound the alarms because a recent vulnerability was uncovered with the ZTE Score M for MetroPCS, which enables some unwanted individuals to gain control of the handset. Well, that’s the bad news of course, especially to those owners stateside, but seeing that the Score M isn’t necessarily the shining stallion in the stable, it’s not going to stir up a whole lot of things.
Nonetheless, it’s a security vulnerability that we’re talking about over here. Actually, it was first discovered by Dmitri Alperovitch of CrowdStrike, who is a co-founder of the cybersecurity firm, and from the way he sees it, it could’ve been due to poor development. Well, it’s eith...

Posted on May 18, 2012 by MG1

Earlier this month, we told you that the stylish LG Optimus 7 had started rolling out across major European and Asian cities. Now, the model is available to be pre-ordered in the U.K. from Clove for a price of 238.80 ($379.60 USD). No shipping date was mentioned for the phone, which uses the Korean manufacturer's "Floating Mass Display Technology" for a slimmer appearance. The latter makes it appear as though the screen is floating as the display is close to the glass surface. The handset is also on the thin side, making for a real nice looking piece of kit.
