ZTE announces Grand X LTE for Europe and Asia Pacific

You probably don't put too much thought into how many chips it takes to get your smartphone on an LTE network, but just in case you were curious, ZTE's upcoming Grand X LTE (T82) will only need one. Qualcomm's MSM8960 makes the Grand X LTE ZTE's first single-chip LTE handset, and the firm is very proud. If processor cores and hardware stats are more your concern, however, rest easy knowing the Grand X packs a 1.5 GHz dual-core CPU, an 8-megapixel rear camera and a delectable serving of Android 4.0. Details on the slab's price and release date are scarce, but it should hit Europe and Asia Pacific in the third quarter. Check out the official press release after the break for more details.

Kanzi: ZTE's 3D UX for ICS handsets

To skin or not to skin? That's hardly ever a question for Android OEMs. And, in the case of some Chinese manufacturers, that mark of software differentiation comes in the form of three dimensions. We've already seen Huawei trot out its (optional) 3D UX for the Ascend P line, and now it appears ZTE's ready to follow suit with a custom interface powered by Rightware. The Kanzi UI, as it's called, will come pre-loaded on all of the company's smartphones currently shipping with Ice Cream Sandwich, treating users to a 3D homescreen experience and giving developers a unified platform to port their designs. ZTE Tania coming to China soon, processor upgraded to 1.4 Ghz

Unwiredview reports that the ZTE Tania may be less than 10 days away from shipping in China.
ZTE sales director Wei Xiaodong told CNMO that the Tania will be in Chinese stores before the end of this month.
The handset from the Chinese company has so far only been distributed in UK and Europe.
The smartphone will see an interesting specs update prior to its release there – instead of a 1 Ghz processor it will now sports a 1.4 Ghz processor – an interesting choice when the handset’s main weakness is its 4GB storage rather than the more generous 8 GB or 16 GB.

Security vulnerability found with the ZTE Score M can allow others to control the device

Oh my goodness people! We really need to sound the alarms because a recent vulnerability was uncovered with the ZTE Score M for MetroPCS, which enables some unwanted individuals to gain control of the handset. Well, that’s the bad news of course, especially to those owners stateside, but seeing that the Score M isn’t necessarily the shining stallion in the stable, it’s not going to stir up a whole lot of things.

ZTE Windows Phones coming to the U.S. by year's end

ZTE wants to grow its Windows Phone business beyond Europe and Asia, and eventually bring its smartphones to the U.S. We guess they’re talking about the Tania handset, though as far as we know they may have some other products in the pipeline, as well.
At the moment, the Chinese company has a number of low-to-mid range devices on sale across U.S. carriers (some of which are Android-based) and offering a Windows Phone device could prove beneficial for their bottom line. Moreover, with ZTE entering the picture, customers get another option, the one that doesn’t necessarily pulls them into expensive monthly contracts.

ZTE twin phablet plans confirmed

ZTE is set to leap upon the phablet bandwagon, joining Samsung’s Galaxy Note and LG’s Optimus Vu with two phone/tablet crossover models sometime in 2012. ZTE V66 tablet may hit Verizon as Turbine with LTE

Some new tips have pointed to Verizon aiming for the low-cost tablet with more definitive plans for a ZTE tablet. An accessory maker claimed to PocketNow that the seven-inch, unreleased V66 would come to Verizon as the Turbine. It's rumored to be similar to the Optik at Sprint, sharing its dual-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon, but would have the expected much faster 4G LTE data.

ZTE to ship 40 million smartphones this year?

ZTE is super bullish on its prospects in the smartphone market this year. According to DigiTimes‘ sources at the Taiwan-based makers of handset components, the Chinese company will ship between 35 and 40 million smartphones this year, which is a significant increase from 11 million units shipped last year. Judging by their extensive line-up unveiled during this year’s Mobile World Congress, we tend to think ZTE will manage to reach this goal and who knows, maybe even surpass its own estimates.

MetroPCS Selling the ZTE Score M Starting Today

MetroPCS began selling the ZTE Score M via its web site today for $49.99 after mail-in rebate. The ZTE Score is a variant of the Score sold by Cricket Wireless. MetroPCS's version has a slightly larger battery and is slightly thicker, though other features remain unchanged. The Score M is an Android 2.3 Gingerbread smartphone with a 600MHz processor, 3.5-inch HVGA display, accelerometer, 3.2-megapixel camera with video capture, and Wi-Fi.

ZTE Announced New Windows Phone Device Called Orbit

ZTE announced a new low cost Windows Phone called Orbit at MWC. This new device will feature the new Tango specs with 256MB RAM and will compete with Lumia 610 in China.
The handset will come with 4 GB of internal storage and a 5 megapixel camera with LED Flash, according to WinphoneXAP. It will also be HD Voice enabled.
The device will be on sale in Q2 this year.

You may have your sights set on Nvidia's next generation of mobile processor, the Tegra 3, but the company has another little achievement to announce today: the first smartphone powered entirely by its chips. The Mimosa X from ZTE features the dual-core Tegra 2 of old plus an Icera 450 HSPA+ modem for the baseband and RF processing. We heard that ZTE was going to try to make a statement in the US with some high-end smartphones (it already makes plenty of inexpensive ones), and now the company has announced at least two that are going to be shown off at MWC next week. First up is the PF200 (pictured above), an Android 4.0 smartphone with a 4.3-inch, 960 x 540 screen and a 1.5GHz processor. ZTE reveals $20 to $30 cost of Windows Phone license

ZTE launched its Tania Windows Phone in the UK last night and provided some insight into the true costs of Windows Phone for manufacturers at the same time. ZTE executive Santiago Sierra, a portfolio manager for the company's UK arm, revealed to TrustedReviews that the firm pays between £15 and £20 ($23-$30) for a Windows Phone license from Microsoft.
The revelation is surprising to say the least. Other Windows Phone makers like HTC and Samsung are widely believed to pay around $10 to $15 per device.
