Samsung Italy: Galaxy S II, Galaxy Note and dual-core tablets getting Android 4.0 update

Samsung Italy: Galaxy S II, Galaxy Note and dual-core tablets getting Android 4.0 update

Posted on Oct 31, 2011 by MG1

Samsung Italy has apparently confirmed that the company’s high-end devices (i.e. those with a dual-core processor) will all get the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update. In other words, the list of products that will be blessed with the latest version of Android includes:
Galaxy S II
Galaxy Note
Galaxy Tab 10.1
Galaxy Tab 8.9
Galaxy Tab 7.7
Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus
We assume the carrier specific versions of the Galaxy S II will also get the same treatment though not as fast as the unlocked device. Moreover, we would hope to see some of the phones with a fast single-core processor (1.4 GHz) on the list, like the Galaxy W or T-Mobile Exhibit II, but I guess Samsung is still evaluating that option....

Samsung’s white Galaxy Note revealed

Samsung’s white Galaxy Note revealed

Posted on Oct 28, 2011 by MG1

Samsung kicks off its Galaxy Note European tour in London, UK, today, showing off the 5.3-inch Android smartphone-tablet-hybrid on the eve of its European release. The company has also whipped out a surprise, in the shape of a white Samsung Galaxy Note, rather than the black version that debuted at IFA 2011 last month.
Aside from the new color option, the white Galaxy Note is functionally identical to its black sibling. That means the same dual-core processor, and the same 5.3-inch Super AMOLED HD screen running at 1280 x 800 paired with a digital S Pen for handwriting, annotations and sketching.

Android Ice Cream Sandwich includes native stylus support

Android Ice Cream Sandwich includes native stylus support

Posted on Oct 24, 2011 by MG15

Styli and Android haven't exactly been strangers as of late -- with devices like the HTC Flyer and Samsung Galaxy Note offering pen-based input -- but it looks like that option will soon be even easier to implement with Ice Cream Sandwich. As noted on Reddit, Google's recent overview of some Android 4.0 platform highlights includes a small tidbit towards the end that details the "full support for stylus input events" in the OS -- including features like pressure sensitivity and the ability to distinguish motion events from different sources (i.e. a pen and your finger). Of course, it still requires some hardware-level assistance from tablet and smartphone makers, but native support in the OS...

Samsung Galaxy Note hitting Australia in early 2012

Samsung Galaxy Note hitting Australia in early 2012

Posted on Oct 11, 2011 by MG1

U.S. won’t be the only developed country that won’t get Samsung Galaxy Note this year, with Samsung Australia saying that their smartphone-tablet will be launched “by early 2012.” The information comes from PC World, which quoted the company’s spokesperson saying: “Essentially, we do want to bring it to Australia but it won’t be until next year.”
Of course, if you want it badly this year, you could import it from Europe where Sammy’s device is expected to start selling at some point in November. Actually that’s the launch date for the United Kingdom, but it’s safe to bet other EU countries will get “their Notes” in the same period.

Samsung Galaxy Note benchmarked, fast and furious

Samsung Galaxy Note benchmarked, fast and furious

Posted on Oct 06, 2011 by MG1

When facts talk, you know what walks, so the benchmark tests of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note Incredible Hulk of a phone are the true tests of its pimped up dual-core 1.4GHz Exynos SoC.
The Samsung Galaxy S II and its versions provide the best performance/battery life ratios in the Android world, as it manages to blow past the dual-core competition, and still have decent time between charges.
In this case, the Galaxy Note should fare even better in benchmarks, provided that the CPU has been overclocked with a 0.2GHz step. A set of those synthetic measurements of mobile silicon capabilities proves exactly that - the Samsung Galaxy Note manages to beat not only the HTC Sensation, based on Q...

The Samsung Galaxy Note has passed through the FCC with AT&T bands

The Samsung Galaxy Note has passed through the FCC with AT&T bands

Posted on Oct 03, 2011 by MG3

The massive Samsung Galaxy Note with its 5.3-inch Super AMOLED display has just passed through the FCC with support for AT&T 3G bands suggesting its release is just around the corner.
The Samsung Galaxy Note is somewhat of a hybrid device. It is a cross between a smartphone and a tablet which is similar to what Dell tried to accomplish with the original Streak. Not only does the Galaxy Note pack a whopping 5.3-inch Super AMOLED display (with an equally impressive 1280x800 resolution), it is powered by a dual-core 1.4GHz processor and 1GB of RAM.

Samsung Galaxy Note hitting UK in November

Samsung Galaxy Note hitting UK in November

Posted on Sep 26, 2011 by MG3

I guess we knew UK will be among the first countries to get the taste of the Samsung Galaxy Note. After all, we’ve already seen the device available for pre-ordering though at that moment we didn’t have any details whatsoever. Today we have one additional tidbit of information – the 5.3-inch screen equipped phone-tablet will be released in November and will cost about 500 GBP (roughly $770) + VAT.

Samsung Galaxy Note, Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S available for pre-ordering in the UK

Samsung Galaxy Note, Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S available for pre-ordering in the UK

Posted on Sep 07, 2011 by MG1

Two newly announced Android smartphones, Samsung Galaxy Note and Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S, are already available for pre-ordering in the UK through Clove.
The online retailer asks 349.99 GBP (about $563) for Sony Ericsson’s baby, listing September 26th as the availability date. The device, which BTW is an upgrade of the original Xperia arc, can be pre-ordered in either midnight blue or pure white.
As for the Galaxy Note, the situation is completely different there. Clove has no clue when Sammy’s huge superphone will be available nor how much it will cost. They show a “speculative price” of 600 GBP without sharing any dates whatsoever. If that doesn’t bother you, and you also happen to have...

Samsung: Galaxy Note hits Europe Q1 2012, US afterwards

Samsung: Galaxy Note hits Europe Q1 2012, US afterwards

Posted on Sep 05, 2011 by MG1

Samsung has yet to officially announce Galaxy Note release dates, leading to some confusion yesterday, but the company’s execs were at least able to give SlashGear a window. When we met with Samsung earlier today to get a more in-depth fondle with some of the Note’s more interesting features, they told us that it’s expected to arrive in Q1 2012 in the UK (and presumably Europe).
US availability, meanwhile, will follow “later than that” though they couldn’t say exactly how much later. Given we’ve only just seen a US launch for the Samsung Galaxy S II, despite it having gone on sale in Europe in late April, it’s certainly imaginable that North American carriers could drag their heels out for s...

Samsung Galaxy Note: a supersized Galaxy S II with a stylus

The Samsung Galaxy Note is a supersized Galaxy S II on steroids featuring a gigantic 5.3" HD Super AMOLED screen, a dual-core 1.4GHz processor and both LTE and HSPA+ connectivity supporting up to 21Mbps on the downlink, German tech blog Areamobile found out just before the official event. The official specs confirm that an add a built-in stylus and support for pen input, making this new smartphone supernova stand apart among other handsets.
The huge screen has the whopping 1280 x 800 WXGA resolution, resulting in the impressive pixel density of 285ppi, and a nearly 180 degree viewing angle.
Despite its huge display, the device is pretty thin only measuring 0.38 inches (9.65mm), while its we...
