Apple was reportedly close to producing a MacBook Air powered by an AMD Fusion APU. Cupertino even had a working prototype on hand but ultimately canceled the idea last spring, according to SemiAccurate.

Apple was interested in a low power Llano based MacBook Air for the powerful graphics. The system would have lost a little CPU power but the GPU would have been many times faster. But as we know, Apple once again went with an Intel solution – the only question is, why?

As it turns out, AMD wasn’t able to produce enough supply to meet Apple’s high demand. According to multiple sources, SemiAccurate says that even if the deal had panned out, AMD would likely have had to preferentially shift ...

Security hack can 'kill' MacBook battery firmware

Accuvant security researcher Charlie Miller on Friday revealed plans to demonstrate an exploit that would compromise the batteries, not the computers, on MacBooks. Apple's batteries reportedly use default passwords on their firmware and can have their controllers compromised by those who know the passwords and can get access to the low level hardware. The hole shown to Forbes could lead to something as simple as rendering the battery inoperable to auto-installing malware and even forced overheating.

OS X Lion is here and I am already typing this story on the new OS X update. It was not enough for Apple to just release the new OS X 10.7 though. Apple also released the highly anticipated new 2011 MacBook Air. The MacBook Air is twice as fast and features the Thunderbolt port. Mac mini fans also get treated to a new 2011 Mac mini with double the performance and Thunderbolt port.
Apple also released the world's first Thunderbolt Display. With the release of the new MacBook Air line Apple has killed the white MacBook. Apple apparently decided to not update the MacBook and have the basic MacBook Air priced at $999 take its place.
