Apple manufacturing partners may build 5 million iPad 2 units in July

Posted on Jul 06, 2011 by MG1

Apple’s manufacturing partners are slated to build 5 million iPad 2 units in July alone, DigiTimes reports. The new claim follows an earlier report stating Apple will ship between 12 million and 14 million iPad 2 tablets in the third quarter of 2011, doubling the Cupertino-based technology giant’s second-quarter shipment volume. DigiTimes claims Cando, Sintek Photronic, Chimei Innolux, TPK Holding and Wintek will combine to supply 5 million touch sensors this month, matching the volume they reportedly filled in June. Leaked iPad 2 jailbreak available now? (updated: better wait)

Posted on Jul 04, 2011 by MG1

Can't say it happened at Mach 3, but the iPad 2 jailbreak that we saw teased back in mid-March seems to have made its way out into the wild at long last. According to the video hosted up just past the break, JailbreakMe 3.0 is now available with support for the iPad 2. It's bruited that the version making its way around now was leaked by a beta tester (read: it ain't the final build), and we're seeing mixed success / failure stories in the related YouTube comments. We'd encourage the daring to tap the links below in order to get started, and if you do, let us know how it all works out below. Per usual, you'd be doing yourself a solid by fully syncing and backing things up before diving off t...

Apple App Store Hits 100,000 iPad Apps Milestone

Apple App Store Hits 100,000 iPad Apps Milestone

Posted on Jul 01, 2011 by MG1

Apple still dominates the tablet landscape with an ecosystem of apps that has yet to be beat. The App Store has reached a new milestone today, now listing over 100,000 apps designed for the iPad. That’s a huge difference from what competitors, such as Google’s Android tablets, have to offer.
The very first Apple iPad was introduced in April of 2010 with the iPad 2 released in March of this year. Apple did have quite a head start with the first competition-worthy Android tablets having only been released in the beginning of this year, such as the Motorola XOOM. However, the growth is still quite impressive, reaching six figures over the last 16 months in iPad apps alone, not counting iPhone a...

Skype coming to iPad soon

Posted on Jun 27, 2011 by MG1

The second we knew that there would be a front-facing camera on the iPad 2, we all knew that Skype would get there eventually. Skype for the iPad isn't out just yet, and it doesn't have a set release date, but it looks as though it will be coming out very soon.
First, there was a video leaked previewing Skype for the iPad (below), then a Skype executive confirmed the imminent release when questioned by The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW). Rick Osterioh, Skype Vice President of Consumer and Product Design, told TUAW that Skype for the iPad is awaiting approval to the app store right now.
Skype for the iPad will be largely what we would expect, though there will be a few features that aren't ...

According to Globo, Brazil's Minister of Science and Technology, Aloízio Mercadante, says that Foxconn will be starting production of the Apple iPad 2 in his country starting in September. Originally, production of the tablet was to have begun in July, but the date has been pushed back because of problems with construction of a facility and a lack of skilled labor. Foxconn sent 175 enginners to China for training, but needs to hire more than 200 before starting production of the device in Brazil.
