Apple’s manufacturing partners are slated to build 5 million iPad 2 units in July alone, DigiTimes reports. The new claim follows an earlier report stating Apple will ship between 12 million and 14 million iPad 2 tablets in the third quarter of 2011, doubling the Cupertino-based technology giant’s second-quarter shipment volume. DigiTimes claims Cando, Sintek Photronic, Chimei Innolux, TPK Holding and Wintek will combine to supply 5 million touch sensors this month, matching the volume they reportedly filled in June. Apple still dominates the tablet landscape with an ecosystem of apps that has yet to be beat. The App Store has reached a new milestone today, now listing over 100,000 apps designed for the iPad. That’s a huge difference from what competitors, such as Google’s Android tablets, have to offer.

The second we knew that there would be a front-facing camera on the iPad 2, we all knew that Skype would get there eventually. Skype for the iPad isn't out just yet, and it doesn't have a set release date, but it looks as though it will be coming out very soon.
First, there was a video leaked previewing Skype for the iPad (below), then a Skype executive confirmed the imminent release when questioned by The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW). According to Globo, Brazil's Minister of Science and Technology, Aloízio Mercadante, says that Foxconn will be starting production of the Apple iPad 2 in his country starting in September. Originally, production of the tablet was to have begun in July, but the date has been pushed back because of problems with construction of a facility and a lack of skilled labor. Foxconn sent 175 enginners to China for training, but needs to hire more than 200 before starting production of the device in Brazil.
