Nintendo cuts 3DS sales forecast, will report first annual loss

Nintendo cuts 3DS sales forecast, will report first annual loss

Posted on Jan 27, 2012 by MG1

Nintendo recently published a note in which it said it will report an annual operating loss of 45 billion yen ($575 million) for the December quarter. Analysts had expected the Japan-based gaming giant to report a 4.2 billion yen loss, Reuters said Thursday. The company now expects to ship 10 million Wii consoles, instead of the original 12 million projected, and 14 million units of its portable 3DS gaming consoles, down from 16 million units. ”We had higher expectations for the year-end season, but failed to meet them,” President Satoru Iwata said while speaking to press in Osaka, Japan. Three analysts speaking to Reuters all agreed that Nintendo needs to rethink its strategy and understand...

Nintendo completes 3DS Ambassador program, delivers ten GBA games to early adopters

Nintendo completes 3DS Ambassador program, delivers ten GBA games to early adopters

Posted on Dec 19, 2011 by MG1

If you've still got the 3DS price drop blues, perhaps a fresh (and final) infusion of free games will help. Early adopters that signed into the Nintendo eShop before August 11th will find ten GameBoy Advance games tacked on to their handheld's purchase history, retrievable via the same clunky redownload system that delivered the 3DS Ambassador program's NES titles. Thankfully, the unintuitive process is relatively simple -- just hop into the eShop's menu, scroll down to "Settings / Other", and select "Your Downloads," to claim your (potentially-exclusive) games. Short of having a 3DS guide us through the Louvre, we can't think of a better use for Nintendo's fledgling handheld.

Nintendo 3DS Circle Pad Pro accessory has 480-hour battery life?

Nintendo 3DS Circle Pad Pro accessory has 480-hour battery life?

Posted on Dec 12, 2011 by MG1

The Nintendo 3DS has had its share of problems, not least its fleetingly short battery life. It sounds like the upcoming 3DS Circle Pad Pro accessory may not be sharing in its host's plight, however. An Andriasang reader with visual proof of owning the accessory — just a tad earlier than its December 10th Japanese launch — says the bundled manual claims it'll survive 480 hours on a single AAA cell. We're still slightly mystified as to why Nintendo didn't use the opportunity of a bulky accessory to extend the stamina of the console itself, but if this pans out, at least the cost has been kept relatively low. The Circle Pad Pro launches in Japan this Saturday for 1,500 yen, or 6,990 yen bundle...

Nintendo 3DS firmware update delayed until December

Nintendo 3DS firmware update delayed until December

Posted on Nov 29, 2011 by MG1

Nintendo 3DS gamers waiting for the planned November firmware update can put down their consoles, or at least stop checking for an update, because it isn't coming this month.
Nintendo has confirmed that the update has been postponed, and will now arrive on 8 December. The Japanese gaming giant has stated that it is "sorry to inconvenience" 3DS owners out there and has thanked them for their patience.
The update adds the ability to record and watch back 3D video, adds extra games for your StreetPass Miis and lets you transfer data between multiple devices.

Zelda 3DS special edition set for USA release

Zelda 3DS special edition set for USA release

Posted on Nov 21, 2011 by MG15

It is finally time all you lovers of the Zelda series who’ve put off picking up a Nintendo 3DS for long enough, time for the Zelda 25th Anniversary 3DS to hit US shores, complete with black casing, gold accents, and Ocaria of Time 3D right there in the box. Thus far the rumors have been that this would only be an international release – and indeed up until now you’d have had to think about importing one later this month here to the USA, but what we’re hearing today is that both Best Buy and GameStop will be carrying the package come Black Friday. That’s the 25th of November, next week, if you’re keeping track, and we’re guessing you’ll want to get to the store rather early the day before and...

Hulu Plus coming to 3DS and Wii, handheld getting 3D video capture

Hulu Plus coming to 3DS and Wii, handheld getting 3D video capture

Posted on Oct 24, 2011 by MG15

Rejoice Nintendo fans, Hulu Plus is coming to your console of choice... provided you're up on the latest in Nintendo hardware. Both the Wii and 3DS will be getting access to the streaming service's vast archives of TV shows and movies some time before the year is out. Though, you shouldn't expect to see the Galactica popping out of your portable -- this is a strictly 2D affair. A software update coming at the end of November will also deliver the ability to record 3D video with the Nintendo handheld (up to ten minutes) or even stitch together stereoscopic images for stop motion animation that jumps out of the tiny screen at you. With both Hulu and Netflix in tow, as well as the ability to cr...

Nintendo 3DS: new features are Ninty’s last stand against mobile phones

Nintendo 3DS: new features are Ninty’s last stand against mobile phones

Posted on Oct 21, 2011 by MG1

The Nintendo 3DS was supposed to be one of the gadgets of 2011. But seven months after its UK launch, the handheld hub is struggling to stay relevant, as iPhone and Android games turn the portable gaming market on its head. The Japanese giant’s latest attempt at making the 3DS relevant is a new software updated, reportedly set for release on 4 November, which will bring 3D video recording, an improved eShop and a new StreetPass game. But there’s just no escaping the fact that if this update fails, Nintendo will have to concede that handheld gaming is no longer the guaranteed cash cow it once was.
Slashing the cost of the Nintendo 3DS has undoubtedly stimulated sales. There was a 260 per cent...

Nintendo 3DS Expansion Slide Pad hits pre-order in Japan

Nintendo 3DS Expansion Slide Pad hits pre-order in Japan

Posted on Oct 13, 2011 by MG1

If you are looking forward to getting your hands on the Nintendo 3DS Expansion Slide Pad, the price and ship date have surfaced. This is the expansion that is specifically made for playing Monster Hunter Tri-G. The accessory is a bizarre looking attachment that makes the 3DS fatter and a bit longer with an extra D-pad.
The Slide Pad will launch on December 10 in Japan and will carry a retail price of ¥1,500, which works out to about $19.50 here in the states. That is a lot cheaper than I expected the accessory to cost. The cradle also apparently adds some buttons to the back of the 3Ds too.
The idea is that the Slide Pad will give the same playing experience that monster Hunter 3D fans will ...

Nintendo Signs Dreamworks 3DS Video Deal

Nintendo Signs Dreamworks 3DS Video Deal

Posted on Oct 06, 2011 by MG1

Nintendo is bringing on one of the biggest leaders in the 3D market to try to invigorate interest in the 3DS.
Dreamworks Animation SKG, which has been among the strongest champions of 3D over the last two years, will offer two animated 3D shorts for Nintendo 3DS owners to watch anytime, anywhere, without the need for 3D glasses.
The first title to be released is called Night of the Living Carrots, timed appropriately for the Halloween season. The second one is a short based on the three little pig characters from Shrek, called The Pig Who Cried Wereholf.
Both are exclusive to the 3DS, at least for now.

Nintendo 3DS Expansion Slide Pad and 3D video unleashed

Nintendo 3DS Expansion Slide Pad and 3D video unleashed

Posted on Sep 14, 2011 by MG1

We bet that when Nintendo originally planned on announcing the first raft of big changes for the 3DS it was hoping to further raise excitement levels for a booming console.
Instead, the official unveiling of the 3DS Expansion Slide Pad and the announcement of 3D video recording at a Tokyo press conference have a tinge of desperation around them, and feel like the gaming giant's last attempt at kick-starting a 3D handheld revolution following the massive price cuts in August.
The Kakuchou Slide Pad, to give it its Japanese moniker, houses the base of the 3DS and adds an extra thumbstick on the right hand side. It's powered by a solitary AA battery and is a fairly cheap accessory, priced at ¥1...

Nintendo 3DS 3D video recording on the way

Nintendo 3DS 3D video recording on the way

Posted on Sep 13, 2011 by MG1

Nintendo's conference at the Tokyo Game Show suggested that 3D video capture would soon arrive for the 3DS handheld, but it was not enough to buoy the company in the eyes of investors.
A conference in the early hours of the morning saw Mario Tennis 3DS, Monster Hunter 4 and Fire Emblem announced, the former utilising the gyroscopic sensor.
"From the end of this year to the beginning of next, we are planning the kind of extensive line-up that has probably never been seen before in the history of video games," said Nintendo president Satoru Iwata.
"We will make an all-out effort to see that the 3DS sells enough to become the successor to the DS."
Other major games on the horizon include Super ...

Punters snapping up Nintendo 3DS after price cut

Punters snapping up Nintendo 3DS after price cut

Posted on Sep 13, 2011 by MG1

Nintendo's decision to slash the price of the 3DS has paid dividends, with the handheld's sales increasing by 260 per cent in the US.
Poor sales prompted a major shift in policy from Nintendo, with the Japanese gaming giant deciding that it would make a loss on each unit, in the hopes of jumpstarting the 3D device.
And a price point in the US of $170 has given the company a much-needed boost.
Positive response
"Consumers are responding very positively to the new suggested retail price of $169.99 for the Nintendo 3DS," said Nintendo of America's executive vice president of sales and marketing Scott Moffitt.
"With Star Fox 64 3D and the new Flame Red colour launching tomorrow, and Super Mario ...

Nintendo sold 235,000 Nintendo 3DS in August after Price Cut

Nintendo sold 235,000 Nintendo 3DS in August after Price Cut

Posted on Sep 09, 2011 by MG1

Since August 12 the Nintendo 3DS is selling for only $169.99. Nintendo has cut the price by 40% after disappointing sales. Now Nintendo announced that according to NPD Group, the Nintendo 3DS sold 235,000 units in August in the United States. This made it the second best-selling gaming console for the month. The Xbox 360 still outsold the 3DS. The sales increase is though 260% compared to the same period a month earlier.
“Consumers are responding very positively to the new suggested retail price of $169.99 for the Nintendo 3DS,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “With Star Fox 64 3D and the new Flame Red color launching tomorrow, and Sup...

New 3DS To Be Revealed September 13?

New 3DS To Be Revealed September 13?

Posted on Sep 05, 2011 by MG1

Nintendo will be holding a special event one week from next Tuesday, and all signs point to it being a chance for the company to unveil a radical new version of its fledgling 3DS handheld.
Rumors started popping up last month that Nintendo was so dissatisfied with the way the 3DS has performed that it is planning on revamping the hardware and launching a new product less than a year after the first 3DS handheld was released.
The September 13 event, which Nintendo called the "Nintendo 3DS Conference 2011," will be held in Japan, but fan sites have translated the invitation to mean something about a "Nintendo 3DS new product announcement."
The event will be streamed live over services Ustream ...
