LG is one of the big names in the OLED TV market. Today, the company announced that they will officially launch their new 55” OLED TV during the Cannes film festival this week. The 55EM9600 is capable of displaying full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution and a 100000000:1 contrast ratio. It also includes 3D and smart TV technology. The TV will officially release tomorrow at the beginning of the festival, which is a lot sooner than Samsung announced the release of their display. LG states that the panel will include a 4mm thickness and will only weigh 7.5 kg (16.5 lbs). The 55EM9600 will also cost less than the Samsung OLED HDTV as it is priced at about $8000.

LG saw itself return to health Wednesday with early 2012 results that showed it back in form. It swung from an equivalent to a $13.9 million loss in winter a year ago to $213.3 million in profit based on a much stronger position in smartphones and better 3D TV sales in is native South Korea. Its mobile division made the equivalent of $34.2 million in profit, almost all of that from cellphones, after having lost $88.7 million at the start of 2011.

Many of the big name HDTV manufacturers have been releasing the first of their 2012 lineup this month. Now, it is LG’s turn as they announced the release of four new TV series, the LM6200, LM6700, LM7600, and the PM6700 series. Each series includes two new TVs that range in size from 47” to 60” The PM6700 is the only series with plasma technology, while the other three use LED technology. None of the series listed are the company’s flagship TV, but they are in the mid-range, which is a good start. Prices will range between $1100 and $2300.

LG is proud to announce that they were honored recently by the International 3D Society with a 2012 3D Technology Award. The award was given to the company’s Cinema 3D technology for providing a consumer-friendly alternative to the 3D technology. James Fishler, senior vice president, marketing and go-to-market operations, LG Electronics USA, said, “At LG, our goal has always been to give people what they want in a TV: outstanding picture quality, robust features and a compelling viewing experience. When it comes to 3D TV, LG listened to consumers and gave them what they really want – a bright, comfortable viewing experience with affordable 3D eyewear.”

At CES, LG unveiled their very first OLED HDTV, the 55EM9600. This 55 inch display is the first large screen OLED TV. It can display a native HD (1920 x 1080) resolution, a 100000000:1 contrast ratio, and 3D technology. Today, the company announced that they will be starting mass production of the TVs as early as July 2012. The displays will be produced at their 8.5-Gen plant and expect to ship out about 48000 TVs each month. This also means that customers could see TVs hit the retail markets as early as the 3rd quarter of 2012. Unfortunately, LG has yet to announce a specific release date.

LG just demoed its 3D Magic Motion Remote at its CES press conference (watch the livestream here), and it looks like it works a lot like Microsoft's Kinect — it's the same remote we spotted earlier, with the addition of a 3D camera that LG says will allow you to use full-body movements to emulate the functions of the Magic Remote. The slide we're looking at shows someone playing Fruit Ninja, a popular Kinect title, so it certainly seems like LG is working on competing with Microsoft's flagship gaming peripheral.

LG has been pushing its flavor of 3DTV as Cinema 3D, and now it has slipped the theater related nomenclature onto another feature, the 1mm thin LCD bezels it has dubbed "Cinema Screen". It claims this move brings the experience closer to the theater, but that's not the only new feature for 2012. LG announced it will offer Dual Play, where it uses polarized glasses to let two different players see only their perspective on the full screen at once in games that support it. Vizio demonstrated the feature last year as Versus and Sony brought it to market in the PlayStation 3D display. LG has been unveiling bits and pieces about some of the new products they plan to have on exhibit at this year’s CES. Recently, you may have ready about the new 55 inch OLED TV that the company will have on display. This display is being hailed at the world’s largest OLED TV to date. Yesterday, the company announced some new details about this screen. Te biggest announcement includes that the display will be using a 4-color pixel and color refiner technology. These two systems combined help create a more natural looking image. The OLED display is also being praised because it is able to handle video up to 1000 times faster than traditional LED/LCD panels.
