A triumvirate of television titans -- LG, Sharp and Philips -- are joining forces to create a development kit, defining a common standard for their Smart TV apps. The power play addresses the problem of fragmentation, since developers will only need to make one version of an app for it to work across all three of the 'tubes operating systems. Based on open standards like HTML5, CE-HTML and HbbTV, developers should get their hands on a beta version by early October, with the finalized version due by the end of the year. LG Unveils LW980T HDTV Series

LG announced today two new HDTVs that will become the company’s new flagship series, the 47LW980T and 55LW980T. The series feature LG’s passive 3D technology as well as 2D-to-3D conversion, Smart TV technology. LG has also included 4 HDMI ports, and dual USB ports with DivX HD support. The screens use LED backlighting, which enables the screens to measure only 27.55mm (1.1 inches) thick. Other major features will include full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution, smartphone control, DLNA, and a 400Hz refresh rate. LG has also stated that they will be including 7 pairs of 3D glasses with each TV. However, retail prices and a release date have not been announced at this time.

LG is pleased to announce today three new HDTVs that will have the company’s latest technology, the PenTouch. The models include the 60PZ850, 60PV490, and 50PV490 and they all include plasma technology and a full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution. The 60PZ850 will also include 3D technology and it will be THX certified as well. The PenTouch technology is a stylus that can also act as the remote control for the TV. By touching the pen to the screen, the user can write, draw, and even control the programs that are displayed onto the screen. It was recently revealed that 4 out of 5 consumers prefer the passive 3D technology over the older active shutter technology. In light of this finding, LG announced today two new entertainment packages that will be releasing later this month. LG to bring 55-inch OLED TV to market in 2012

There have been a few OLED TVs on the market so far. Sony had its OLED a few years back, but the set was so expensive that it never took off thanks to that price. Eventually the cost of the OLED panels will come down and we will see the TVs on the market at prices consumers might be willing to pay. The sets promise better image quality, thinner profiles, and less power consumption.
LG has announced that it will be tossing a 55-inch OLED TV onto the market in mid-2012. LG’s CEO noted that the company would not focus on small and medium size OLED screens for the tablet and smartphone. LG announced recently two new HDTV series that will be coming soon, the LW5700 and LZ9600. The LW5700 series includes three models, the 32 inch 32LW5700, 42 inch 42LW5700 and the 47 inch 47LW5700. All of these screens feature full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution and the latest in 3D technology. The LZ9600 only has two models, the 47 inch 47LZ9600 and 55 inch 55LZ9600, but they also feature 1080p HD resolution. All five HDTVs include a built in tuner and the ability to support USB recording. Unfortunately additional information is not available at this time. Hopefully LG will release retail prices and release dates soon.
