Google's drawn the ire of the Federal Trade Commission before for failing to follow its own privacy policies. Now, however, the Mountain View crew is apparently facing a formal inquiry from the FTC as it seeks information about Google's search and advertising business. The civil investigative demands are set to be sent out within the next five days, according to the Wall Street Journal, and the commission will be looking into whether Google's search engine illegally routs all those internet eyeballs scanning its site to its own services instead of those offered by competitors. It's not entirely clear why when a company decides to make a product targeted to women, they usually just wrap it up in candy colors and fluff, as if the target market is Barbie.
In the case of the HTC Glamor, though, it makes sense, since the most likely buyers will be teenage girls, judging by the jolly colors in a leaked picture of HTC's upcoming feminine handset.

The good news is that Hulu Plus for Android is on the market, but the bad news is that you may not be able to install it yet. The official Hulu Blog has just been updated with news that six phones -- Nexus One, Nexus S, HTC Inspire 4G, Motorola Droid II, Motorola Droid X, and the Motorola Atrix -- are on the compatible list with "additional device announcements" due later in the year. While there's some crossover with the list of Netflix-compatible devices, it's hardly complete and many flagship phones are still missing. Google Wallet seems like a significant step forward towards NFC adoption, but until now, the service was expected to work only on devices running Android – the Google-backed mobile OS. In its "Do No Evil" quest to become the entire Internet, Google hit a milestone in May that no other website has ever hit before. Just when you thought that the company couldn't possibly attract new visitors simply because everybody and his sister already used the service – no one searches the Web anymore, after all, they Google it – the Internet giant became the first website to ever have 1 billion unique visitors in a month.

ASUS rumored to have 13-inch Android laptop on its mind, NVIDIA expected to provide ARM CPU

Some might argue that ASUS already has an ARM-powered Android laptop in its inventory thanks to the Eee Pad Transformer, however the company's now been identified as planning a more spacious 13-inch notebook device, whose power and pricing could well be even more attractive than the Transformer's. We should naturally be wary of the source here, DigiTimes having a record that's as patchy as the grass at Wimbledon after the first week's play, but the Taiwanese rumormonger says ASUS has already made launch plans for this 13-incher and will be using "NVIDIA's processor" inside.

Chrome 14 blocks unencrypted scripts on secure sites

Google appears to have revamped the security features in Chrome 14, an update to the company's browser that is still in beta development. The build currently blocks secure sites from using unencrypted scripts on pages that are supposed to be protected via HTTPS protocols. Aside from JavaScript scripts, the blocks also extend to plug-ins and external CSS stylesheets.

Mozilla Firefox 5 For Android Goes Live On The Android Market

Mozilla‘s Firefox 5 for Android is now available from the Android Market, carrying over some of the same features as the new desktop browser. Most of the upgrade involved under-the-hood bug fixes and enhancements, but there are still a couple cool new features to get excited about.
For one, Mozilla included the Do Not Track function that was added to the desktop browser, giving the user more control over their data and information about their browsing habits to have a worry-free surfing experience. Unfortunately, the feature only works when websites recognize and honor the setting, so it may not actually make much of a difference for your average user.

It looks like Motorola is unlocking the Atrix bootloader with the Gingerbread update

Motorola had said that they would change their policy on locking bootloaders by Q3 of this year, but the changes look like they're starting early. BriefMobile has confirmed through a leaked Gingerbread update for the Motorola Atrix 4G that the update will allow easy unlocking of the bootloader.
The Gingerbread update for the Atrix is scheduled to be released over-the-air in July, and will update the phone to Android 2.3.3, which unfortunately means that the phone still won't be able to use the new video chat in GTalk which requires 2.3.4. But, the update will allow the use of the traditional fastboot oem unlock command to unlock the bootloader. And, an unlocked bootloader means full support...

Verizon Motorola XOOM owners have been experiencing Android 3.1 Honeycomb for some time now, but it appears that the latest version of the platform is being rolled out globally to other XOOM owners as well.
Motorola announced today through their European Facebook page that Android 3.1 Honeycomb is being pushed out to units outside of the US. From the sound of it all, European owners of the XOOM can expect to see it arrive sometime over the next several weeks. Google Goggles is one of those weird apps that has a bunch of niche uses, but may not be part of your daily rotation. It can do image searches for landmarks, famous pieces of art, and products. It can use optical character recognition (OCR) to "read" and translate text in a handful of languages. And, it can scan and launch QR codes. Google even claims that it is capable of facial recognition, but the feature simply hasn't been "turned on" due to privacy concerns.

Google adding Skype-like abilities to Chrome, other browsers

Google plans to add real-time communication features into the popular Chrome web browser, according to an announcement on Google's Chromium-dev group.
The technology will be powered by its own WebRTC open-source project, which originated from Google's 2010 acquisition of Global IP Solutions (GIPS), and would allow for voice and video calling without the need for a plug-in or an external third-party application like Skype.
The obvious beneficiary for the project is Chrome OS, and specifically Gmail, which already offers video and voice chat through the browser using a proprietary plug-in. But Google has bigger plans for WebRTC.

Google Rolling Out New Voice, Search Updates

Google is now rolling out some of the new search technologies it previewed last week, including search by image and voice search on the desktop.
The features are currently only available via Google's Chrome browser, but they allow you to search on the desktop by voice as well as drag-and-drop photos into image search for details on what's displayed.
For voice search, Chrome users visiting Google.com will see a little microphone icon on the right side of the search box. Click the mic and a small box with the instructions to "speak now" will appear. You'll need a microphone attached to your computer for it to work.
