Acer Iconia Tab A500's Android 4.0 update shows early

Posted on Apr 26, 2012 by MG3

Android 4.0 has arrived just a couple of days earlier than previously billed for Acer's Iconia Tab A500, according to reports from Android Central. The OS update had been scheduled to arrive April 27.
Acer has been rolling out the OS update for its Iconia line of tablets since February, with the Iconia Tab A200 first in line. That update fixed a number of bugs in the A200's operation, improving browser responsiveness and microphone functioning, along with the features Android 4.0 itself brings.

Apple spawned the media tablet market with the launch of the original iPad a couple of years back. Two iPad updates and countless Android tablets later, its viselike grip over the tablet market remains intact. To add insult to injury for its rivals, market research firm IDC recently predicted that it could take until 2015 for Android tablets to overtake the iPad in terms of market share. Well, not so fast. For all we know, Windows 8 and not Android could eventually end up upsetting Apple’s apple cart. Hit the jump for more.

Acer Iconia Tab A510 with Tegra 3, Android 4.0 arriving in the US and Canada for $450

Acer Iconia Tab A510 with Tegra 3, Android 4.0 arriving in the US and Canada for $450

Posted on Mar 22, 2012 by MG1

The curious thing about the Acer Iconia Tab A510 is that it's been out in the open for months -- we've even handled it -- but for whatever reason, Acer's never publicly acknowledged it as the successor to last year's A500. When we got hands-on at CES, for example, it wasn't at Acer's suite, but NVIDIA's booth (this is Acer's first Tegra 3 tablet, don'tcha know). Well, the company's finally ready to come out and say, "Yes, we made this thing." The A510 is up for pre-order today in the US and Canada, with a price of $450. Though you can get it in black or white, it's available in one 32GB configuration for now. To recap, this is a quad-core slate with 1GB of RAM, a 10.1-inch (1280 x 800) displ...

Acer Iconia Tab A510 gets FCC's seal of approval

Posted on Feb 21, 2012 by MG1

Good folks of FCC had a chance to play with the Acer Iconia Tab A510, giving it its official seal of approval, effectively making the quad-core tablet ready to be sold on the U.S. soil. Aside from rocking NVidia’s powerful processor (Tegra 3), the A510 also comes with a 10.1-inch 1280×800 pixels touchscreen, Wi-Fi connectivity, 5-megapixel rear-facing camera, 1.3-megapixel front-facing one, Dolby Mobile sound, HDMI out and 16GB of built-in storage.

Acer Iconia Tab A510 to hit European retailers this April?

Acer Iconia Tab A510 to hit European retailers this April?

Posted on Jan 26, 2012 by MG3

Amidst the madness that was CES, Acer quietly snuck its Iconia Tab A510 onto the showroom floor, tucking the tablet into the folds of NVIDIA's booth. While the company was more than willing to fess up to the slate's specs -- quad-core Tegra 3 processor, skinned Ice Cream Sandwich UX, 1280 x 800 display -- little in the way of pricing and availability were revealed. If a report out of Germany is to be believed, however, Europeans (sorry, statesiders) might very well see the 10.1-incher hit retail as early as this April, with a €500 price tag in tow. That's all the rumor mill's wrought for now, folks, but we'll keep you posted should the news go official at CeBIT 2012.

Acer shows off quad-core Icona Tab with 1080p display

Posted on Jan 09, 2012 by MG3

It was something that we expected to see soon enough, and Acer is bringing the fire with a new Iconia Tab that will feature a 1080p display, not to mention the quad-core Tegra 3 processor. We had seen leaked pics of this Iconia A700 tablet just before the new year, but this is the first time we've seen it turned on, and it's looking pretty good.

Acer Unveils the Thinnest Ultrabook, a 15

Acer Unveils the Thinnest Ultrabook, a 15" Ultrabook, a 1080p Tablet and AcerCloud

Posted on Jan 09, 2012 by MG3

It technically doesn't start for another day, but CES is in full swing in Las Vegas. As part of the fun, Acer is bringing us the thinnest Ultrabook yet: The Aspire S5. This 13.3" class laptop measures just 15 mm at its thickest point and weighs in at under 3 lbs. Specs get thin from there, the Intel Core processor, SSD and sealed battery are a given; what we don't know is the size of the battery nor the price or release date, though Q2 2012 is promised. What draws our eye more than the thinness lies beneath what's being called a "MagicFlip I/O" port panel. In an homage to the original MacBook Air, Acer is including a concealed panel for connectivity beneath the display hinge. Where the origi...

Acer has officially announced the newest addition to the company’s Iconia Tab lineup, the A200. The 10.1-inch device runs Android 3.2 Honeycomb with an Ice Cream Sandwich update slated for mid-February. The A200 features NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 processor with a 1280 x 800-pixel display and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. Additionally, the device features a microSD slot, 1GB RAM, a full sized USB 2.0 port and eight hours of battery life. Perhaps the most attractive feature is the price tag — the 8GB model will be available for $329 and the 16GB model for $349. An attractive price for a tablet that will have Ice Cream Sandwich next month is definitely appealing, so be sure to checkout our Consumer...

Acer ICONIA TAB A200 is ready for purchase in the UK for $469 (£299), but won't ship until January 6

Posted on Dec 28, 2011 by MG1

The wait is finally over for our UK friends, as they have the prime opportunity of purchasing the Acer ICONIA TAB A200 right now online. Sporting a price tag of $469 (£299), it falls in line to the previous rumor we heard about, but more importantly, it’s at a competitive price point that’s close to other similarly spec’d tablets out right now.
Naturally, it’s all fine and dandy that it’s available for purchase right now, but it’s mentioned to be delivered by January 6th. Needless to say, that “by” mention could mean many things – like possibly seeing it before January 6. Then again, you’re probably better off not thinking about it coming any earlier, so that your hopes won’t be dashed.

Acer to stick with tablets despite poor sales

Acer to stick with tablets despite poor sales

Posted on Dec 27, 2011 by MG1

Filed in: TabletsAcer

Acer will continue to launch new tablets in 2012 despite slow sales of the company’s current tablet models. Commenting on rumors that Acer might slow its tablet efforts in 2012 or even exit the emerging market completely, company founder Stan Shih stated that Acer would not be giving up on tablets just yet. He added that the company will continue to build smartphones as well, and that there are currently no plans to make personnel cuts in its tablet or smartphone divisions as had been previously rumored. Shih conceded that sales of Acer tablets have been poor thus far, DigiTimes reported, but the Taiwan-based computer vendor seemingly sees too much potential in the tablet market to give up. ...

Acer announces Iconia Tab A200 packing Tegra 2 CPU, Ice Cream Sandwich on the way

Posted on Dec 02, 2011 by MG15

We've already seen it pass through the FCC and pop-up in a family-friendly video, but today, Acer's Iconia Tab A200 has finally received official status, courtesy of an announcement obtained by Netbook News. Powered by NVIDIA's 1GHz Tegra 2 processor, the company's latest Android slate comes with 1GB of RAM and boasts a "generous" 10.1-inch display, with 1280 x 800 resolution. Available in either Titanium Gray or Metallic Red, the slate also features a two megapixel front facing camera and, as we observed earlier, comes packed with Acer Ring -- a multitasking manager that provides shortcuts to Google Maps, screenshot functions and other apps. Acer says it began shipping Honeycomb-laced model...

Quad-core Acer tablet confirmed for 2012

Acer is all set to unleash an Nvidia Tegra 3 powered tablet in 2012, with the company's president Jim Wong confirming to T3 that the quad-core device rumours are true.
Recently, the Acer Iconia Tab A200 got leaky on the web, although it's thought that this particular tab will be rocking Tegra 2 rather than the newer quad-core Tegra 3 chipset.
Whatever the name though, it's definitely coming, with the Acer bossman saying: "You may have seen some leaked stories in the media relating to Acer launching a new quad-core tablet and I can confirm these stories are true.

Acer Iconia Tab A200 pictures leaked online

Acer Iconia Tab A200 pictures leaked online

Posted on Nov 07, 2011 by MG1

This is the first we've seen of the Acer Iconia Tab A200, an as yet unannounced Android Honeycomb tablet that's come to light thanks to a brief post on the Bluetooth SIG website. Unfortunately, the leak is extremely short on details — in fact there are almost none to speak of, except that it'll have Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, and will be available worldwide. And yes, that's as big as the picture gets. There is some information online, most notably from a thread on XDA Developers which describes it as a "low-cost" Iconia Tab A500. Their data pegs it as having a rear camera, Dolby Mobile, new Acer Ring app and lockscreen shortcuts, and running Honeycomb 3.2.1. Our review of the A500 called it one of...
