ASUS Zenbook gets taken apart, finds the peace within

Posted on Oct 24, 2011 by MG15

It's certainly not very Zen, but AnandTech has pried open ASUS' 11.6-inch ultrabook to see exactly what makes it all tick. The Zenbook's innards are all tightly packed together inside the oh-so-thin casing, with the UX21's slim-line cooler covering both of the Intel Core i7-2677M processors. The 128GB model has been given an ADATA SDD, while the bigger 256GB version runs on SanDisk storage, with the WiFi card contorted to squeeze inside the aluminum alloy body. ASUS has extended its design sensibilities outside of the tightly-packed casing, with the Microsoft serial number and certificate transplanted to the power unit, which leaves the Zenbook's slick design lines and finish peacefully unta...

Cedar Trail-powered Asus VX6S netbook gets some early benchmarks

Cedar Trail-powered Asus VX6S netbook gets some early benchmarks

Posted on Oct 19, 2011 by MG1

Benchmarking unreleased hardware is a dodgy business, largely because you're not working with final drivers. Nevertheless, Netbook Live's latest efforts could possibly be seen as establishing a bare minimum of what Cedar Trail is capable of. They put a 12-inch Asus Lamborghini VX6S netbook containing the next-gen Intel D2700 Atom CPU and the AMD Radeon 6470M GPU up against its Pine Trail/ION2-powered VX6 predecessor. For good measure, they also threw in an Eee PC 1215B running on AMD's Zacate E-350 APU (not the superior E-450). The PC Mark benchmarks gave the VX6S a gain of around ten percent against the Eee PC, with the VX6 coming a distant third-- not quite revolutionary, but that's what y...

Asus Eee PC 1025 treads a Cedar Trail through the FCC

Asus Eee PC 1025 treads a Cedar Trail through the FCC

Posted on Oct 03, 2011 by MG3

Attracted by all that Cedar Trail gossip about 10-hour battery life and weeks of standby time? Then you'll be pleased to see that Asus's Eee PC 1025C and higher-end 1025CE models have received their nods from the FCC. Both pack the latest 32nm Atom processor under their 10.1-inch hoods, along with an HDMI-out, Kensington lock and flush trackpad. The CE additionally serves up a USB 3.0 port, 4x zoom on its webcam and a metallic finish. NetbookNews got some hands-on time with these babies at Computex and reported prices of $249 and $279 for the C and CE respectively -- whet your appetite at the More Coverage link.

Asus' MeeGo-based Eee PC X101 hits e-tailers for $200

Posted on Sep 14, 2011 by MG1

First announced at Computex, Asus is preparing to shove its latest mini-notebook out of the gates with units already available for preorder through online retailer including Amazon. Instead of Windows, the Eee PC X101 ships with MeeGo, the Linux-based amalgamation of Intel and Nokia's Moblin and Maemo operating systems. We haven't seen many MeeGo-based devices and according to a DigiTimes report last week, Intel might slow ...

ASUS Eee PC X101 with MeeGo gets official listing

ASUS Eee PC X101 with MeeGo gets official listing

Posted on Jul 29, 2011 by MG1

ASUS’ MeeGo-running Eee PC X101 has found itself an official product page, ahead of the 1.5GHz Intel Atom Oak Trail 1.33 GHz Intel Atom N435 ultraportable’s release later this month. The 10.1-inch netbook has a 1024 x 600 display, 1GB of RAM as standard (2GB max) and an 8GB SSD, humble specs but probably sufficient for the MeeGo OS it’s loaded with.
While initial indications suggested that ASUS would offer the X101 as a dual-booting machine able to load into either MeeGo or Windows 7, the company later decided to split the two platforms between two separate models. That’s left the X101 to be the low-cost option, with a sub-$200 RRP, while the X101H running Windows 7 is a hundred dollars or s...
