NVIDIA Kai: $199 Android tablets coming soon
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsTabletsnVIDIAGoogleAndroid
NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang previously mentioned that more Tegra 3-powered tablets would be coming to the market this summer, starting at the low price of $199. At the company’s annual shareholders’ meeting last week, vice president Rob Csonger revealed Kai, a plan to democratize its quad-core Tegra 3 system-on-a-chip. NVIDIA is looking to offer tablets that are more powerful than Amazon’s Kindle Fire, but that will be offered at the same low price point. “Our strategy on Android is simply to enable quad-core tablets running Android Ice Cream Sandwich to be developed and brought out to market at the $199 price point, and the way we do that is a platform we’ve developed called Kai,” he said. “S...

Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesCPUTabletsnVIDIA
The gaming outlook on Android is looking pretty solid in the near future, especially on Tegra devices. NVIDIA has always been proactive about getting the support of developers, which even led to the creation of the Tegra Zone app to make it easier for users to find games which have been optimized for Tegra multi-core processors.
NVIDIA has continued the trend today, announcing a bunch of new games which will be coming optimized for Tegra-powered devices. The games announced are Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode 2, Bucket, Golden Arrow THD, Dark Kingdom THD, Eden to Greeeen, and Hamilton's Great Adventure.

In a fully green-lit environment on the first full day of CES 2012, NVIDIA’s Jen-Hsng Huang outlined their 2012 focus, and all was quad-core. The event began with Huang speaking about how they’d be moving through Tablets, a secret additional feature of Tegra 3, and vehicle integration. As tablets are, as evidence shows, the quickest selling device category in mobile history, so too will NVIDIA continue to concentrate on the category for their hero devices.
For the tablets, Huang noted that a big moment in Android was the moment it was revealed that Gingerbread and Honeycomb were combined in Ice Cream Sandwich. All the devices now, he reminds us, are in one single platform. Content developers...

Benchmark test results suggest quad-core Toshiba tablet in works
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsToshibanVIDIA
Looks like Toshiba has a quad-core tablet coming, powered by the NVIDIA Tegra 3. Using the code name of "toshiba06", a common early code name for Toshiba tablets, the device was put through the paces at the AnTuTu benchmark web site. The results showed a processor clock speed of 1.4GHz and like the rest of the benchmark test, produced results similar to that scored by the Asus Transformer Prime. Considering that the latter is powered by the NVIDIA Tegra 3, it is possible that the Toshiba unit has the same processor under the hood.

Though we expect the ASUS Transformer Prime to launch with Android 3.2 Honeycomb on board when it ships next month, that doesn't mean that NVIDIA and ASUS aren't hard at work getting Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich running on the convertible tablet. As proof of this, NVIDIA has released a demo video that gives us one of our first looks at Ice Cream Sandwich on a tablet and showcases some of the new features of Android 4.0.

Nvidia CEO: $299 Tegra 3 Tablet to Become Reality in Six Months
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsnVIDIA
So far what is the biggest threat to the iPad’s largely unchallenged supremacy in the tablet market? The answer has certainly got to be Amazon's Kindle Fire, which sports a very enticing $200 price tag. Even though the Kindle Fire is probably the only non-iPad tablet to have generated iPad-like buzz, it's not the only affordable tablet on the market. The ranks of sub-$300 tablets are constantly swelling. And if NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang is right, soon there will be a number of Tegra 3 tablets in this price range.
But exactly how soon, you ask? Well, in a couple of quarters according to Huang. He made this claim while talking to media persons in New York on Friday. Apparently, he was in a mo...

First quad-core Tegra 3 tablet appears, ready for production
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsnVIDIA
We've been waiting for the first Tegra 3 quad-core processors in October, but having this very first slate running on all four (if not five) cores is reassuring. The ZTE T98 is a 7-inch Android tablet unveiled at the PT/Expo Comm in China and its cores are ticking at 1.3GHz, slightly less than the 1.5GHz that could be easily achieved.
One reason for having the lower speed is battery preservation as the T98 only features a 4,000mAh juicer. There's also 1GB of RAM and 16 gigs of internal memory, rounding up this speedy little slate. In terms of photographic capabilities, the China-made device features a 5-megapixel rear camera and a 2MP front snapper.
Now, having the first quad-core tablet is ...

First quad-core Kal-El tablets pushed to October, smartphones to early 2012
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsnVIDIA
Remember Nvidia's quad-core Kal-El chip, also known as the Tegra 3? The one expected to roll out in August, you might wonder. That exact one is now pushed to make its official debut in October, while on smartphones it will arrive only in early-2012, just after the Holiday shopping season and around CES time in early January.
“Project Kal-El-powered tablets are coming this Fall, and phones around the CES 2012 timeframe,” NVIDIA confirmed for Androidandme.
NVIDIA's Kal-El has been delayed
That's a two-month delay for the chip on tablets, but if you're wondering whether there won't be yet another delay in October, you may be calmed down by the fact that the release date for the upcoming quad-c...
