Optimus 3D Gingerbread update coming, world shrugs, stares wistfully at Ice Cream Sandwich

Optimus 3D Gingerbread update coming, world shrugs, stares wistfully at Ice Cream Sandwich

Posted on Nov 16, 2011 by MG1

So we thought an update was coming last month, but like those three-dimensional phantasms the Optimus 3D is capable of conjuring, it appears it wasn't really there. LG now plans to lump the 2D to 3D app convertor, camera upgrades and some more nuggets into its feet-dragging Gingerbread upgrade, starting this month. Alongside 3D video editing and automatic image-stabilization, the customized version of Android 2.3 will unleash a speedier HSPA+ connection boosting maximum download speeds to 21Mbps, and "advanced copy/paste" -- something we're very excited about. LG also promises longer music playback from the upgraded 3D phone, with the software refresh pegged to start on carrier-unlocked hand...

Gingerbread update for LG Optimus 3D starts rolling out next week

Gingerbread update for LG Optimus 3D starts rolling out next week

Posted on Nov 15, 2011 by MG1

Remember that early Gingerbread ROM for the LG Optimus 3D? Sure, it was in a state too crude to be used on a daily basis, but it was good for one thing, namely spoiling the surprise by revealing what goodies the upcoming update is about to bring.
Well, the Gingerbread update for the LG Optimus 3D is now officially starting to roll out next week, November 21 to be precise. Europeans who own and unlocked version of the smartphone will be the first to try it out, yet additional markets and handset variations will be added to the list by the year's end.
What the Gingerbread update adds is pretty much what we already know thanks to the aforementioned leak. Editing footage on the Optimus 3D will b...

LG Optimus 2X finally gets the Gingerbread update; Optimus 3D and Optimus Black later in November

LG Optimus 2X finally gets the Gingerbread update; Optimus 3D and Optimus Black later in November

Posted on Nov 04, 2011 by MG1

LG is pretty crappy when it comes to firmware updates with their Optimus 2X being one of the last devices to get the Gingerbread treatment. Those of you living in Europe with the “world’s first smartphone with a dual-core processor” can finally get Android 2.3 update from LG — in case you haven’t took the “unofficial” route and rooted your way to Gingerbread.
Unfortunately, this update is only for folks who bought the unlocked device with no carrier subsidies and it’s still unclear when every Optimus 2X owner will get it. We’ll keep our eyes wide open and let you know as soon as we hear something new on that front.

A leaked build that recently leaked shows that the update is based on Android 2.3.5.
The special extras included for Optimus 3D users are better 3D video capturing as well as enhancements to 2D and 3D video editing. 3D to 2D conversion is also improved. Certain units will also benefit from faster HSPA+ cellular data with speeds up to 21Mbps.

Gingerbread update for Verizon's LG Revolution is being pushed out as we speak

Posted on Nov 02, 2011 by MG1

Sure it might have been the least favorable of the initial three 4G LTE smartphone offerings from Verizon Wireless, but in any event, the LG Revolution is finally packing its Froyo bags and moving right up to Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Naturally, the wait was a lengthy one for handset owners, but it’s nonetheless ever so sweet for them.
Bringing up its software version to VS910ZV7, the update brings forth the entire usual suspect of features commonly associated with the sweet tasting snack. Beyond that, it packs along a few things that enhance both the email and messaging experience. Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich not coming to LG Optimus 2X?

Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich not coming to LG Optimus 2X?

Posted on Oct 31, 2011 by MG1

Well, this doesn’t bode well for LG. Recently the handset-maker confirmed on Facebookthat the Optimus 2X will not receive the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update, even though it was only released in January of this year. This likely means that the T-Mobile G2X won’t be getting the update, either.
Back when we reviewed the Optimus 2X and T-Mobile G2X, we had very few negative things to say about the dual-core toting handsets. With the Optimus 2X being the first dual-core phone and managing to get itself into the Guinness Book of World Records, the future looked bright for the handset.
After a rather glowing review of the T-Mobile G2X, the problems began. Random reboots, or just shutting off...

LG Optimus S Gingerbread update halted by Sprint after issues reported

Posted on Sep 28, 2011 by MG1

Sprint recently started rolling out the Android 2.3 update for the LG Optimus S. While those with the phone were excited about the update, there have been many complaints from those with the LG Optimus S about problems that have popped up with the device since the new software was downloaded. As a result, Sprint has put a halt to the update and is looking to send out a fixed version of the OS to those whose phone is no longer working correctly.
Some of the problems that LG Optimus S owners have had after updating to Android 2.3 include a failure of the phone's battery to recharge, the inability to connect to data, a message that the microSD card is un-mounted or removed and when connected to...

LG Optimus S finally receives its long awaited Android 2.3 Gingerbread update

LG Optimus S finally receives its long awaited Android 2.3 Gingerbread update

Posted on Sep 15, 2011 by MG1

When it was first released last fall, one of the nice things about owning the LG Optimus S was the fact that it came with Android 2.2 Froyo out of the box – and in fact, it was one of the few at the time to sport that version. Fast forward to almost a year later, the handset is finally moving up to the next version of Android.
Sprint announced the beloved news that many handset owners have been waiting for, which is none other than the fact that the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the handset is being rolled out. However, they’re releasing it in droves over the course of the next 10 days – so don’t be alarmed if you don’t see that notification today.
As always, the new software update fea...

T-Mobile begins rollout of G-Slate Android 3.1 Honeycomb update

T-Mobile begins rollout of G-Slate Android 3.1 Honeycomb update

Posted on Aug 12, 2011 by MG3

The T-Mobile G-Slate is catching up with the Joneses, that is if the Joneses are the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 or Motorola XOOM, as it is now being updated to Android 3.1 Honeycomb. The update adds Google Videos support, resizable widgets, USB accessory support, and an expanded recent apps list. T-Mobile is rolling out the update in a staggered fashion, and users should get a notification when it is ready to be downloaded and installed. T-Mobile makes a point to say that it cannot expedite the rollout of the update, so if you don't get it right away, you will just have to be patient and wait it out.

T-Mobile G-Slate is getting its Honeycomb 3.1 tasting tomorrow

T-Mobile G-Slate is getting its Honeycomb 3.1 tasting tomorrow

Posted on Aug 10, 2011 by MG1

Not to be forgotten amongst the heap of newer Honeycomb tablets that are on the market, the 3D video recording capable T-Mobile G-Slate is more than likely to start receiving its Honeycomb 3.1 tasting tomorrow; August 10th.
Actually, LG says that they’ll be rolling it out some time today, but device owners would more than likely see it come in tomorrow – especially when it’s being rolled out in waves. Either way, it’s expected to arrive over the course of the next few days for the majority of people.
As we all know, Android 3.1 Honeycomb isn’t a dramatic upgrade, but rather, T-Mobile G-Slate owners will find the host of improvements to be more than satisfactory in the near term. In fact, it ...

All AT&T Android Phones Released In 2011 Will Get Gingerbread

All AT&T Android Phones Released In 2011 Will Get Gingerbread

Posted on Jul 26, 2011 by MG1

The HTC Status might be a sort-of-weird, kind-of-gimmicky (with its dedicated Facebook button and all) little piece of kit, but it’s got at least one thing going for it: it’s the only phone on AT&T running on the latest (phone-friendly) version of Android: v2.3, or “Gingerbread”. Not for long, though.
AT&T has just confirmed that all of the Android phones they released in 2011 will be getting the Gingerbread upgrade treatment.
The phones AT&T confirmed:
HTC Inspire 4G
LG Phoenix
Motorola Atrix 4G
Pantech Crossover
Samsung Captivate
Samsung Infuse 4G
That sure looks like all of AT&T’s 2011 Android line up so far, to me. Anyone spot anything that’s missing?
For those of you whose pre-2011 AT&T...

LG Optimus 3D getting the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update in October

LG Optimus 3D getting the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update in October

Posted on Jul 20, 2011 by MG1

British version of the LG Optimus 3D won’t get the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update before October. We’ve no idea what’s wrong here since by that time Google may easily launch the latest version of Android – Ice Cream Sandwich. The good news, however, is that LG’s forthcoming update will also come with some special features, custom-made to take advantage of the 3D screen. As a result, once the Optimus 3D gets that new software, 2D to 3D conversion will be possible on the fly for applications and games as long as they [apps and games] are based on OpenGL. Kinda neat though I’m not sure that justifies waiting for October, especially when we know that the competing product (HTC Evo 3D) offers the...
