Zotac's Mini-ITX Z68 motherboards have received some fresh competition with the arrival of ASRock's new Z68M-ITX/HT motherboard. Perfect for high-end HTPCs, the new board offers seemingly all the goodies commonly associated with Intel's latest chipset, including support for Sandy Bridge's IGP, K-Series processors and Smart Response Technology.
SRT is a hybrid storage solution that boosts performance by moving frequently accessed data to a low-capacity flash-based cache drive, while your operating system and other files are stored on a conventional hard drive. That speed increase varies depending on the situation, but we saw some impressive gains in our Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3-iSSD review.

EVGA Teases Community with Upcoming LGA2011 Motherboard Prototype

EVGA Teases Community with Upcoming LGA2011 Motherboard Prototype

EVGA teased its community with a picture of one of its first single-socket LGA2011 motherboards. The graphics card major was missed at this year's Computex event at the wall holding upcoming LGA2011 boards. The company then pacified its fans with news that it was working on a monstrous dual-LGA2011 motherboard along the lines of the SR-2. We can't tell very much about the board in the picture below, except that it has socket LGA2011 with a typical CPU area layout, makes smart use of the congested VRM area with high-C capacitors and driver-MOSFETs, and looks to have some innovations such as right-angled 24-pin ATX power connector. Power, reset, and clear CMOS buttons are found at a place acce...

Is Asus Expecting a Slowdown in 3Q11 Motherboard Sales?

Perhaps Asus knows something the rest of the industry isn't aware of yet, or maybe the company is reacting to recent news of AMD delaying its Bulldozer processor launch. Either way, it appears Asus isn't ultra-confident in there being a high demand for motherboards in the third quarter and has reportedly asked its parts and component suppliers to only ship enough materials to produce between 1 million and 1.5 million motherboards.
That's down significantly from the 2.5 million units ordered for the May-June period, says news and rumor site DigiTimes, which is getting its information from "sources at downstream suppliers." Asus shipped around 11.4 million motherboards in the first half of 201...

Its the weirdest rumor, but vr-zone claims that Intel is trying very hard to get a new platform out this year, although this means that the company will axe a lot of platform features, here's a blunt CC from them.
Judging by the information we've seen, Intel is having several issues with the new platform, ranging from storage, to PCI Express and apparently even CPU revisions. It's pretty much bad news all around. But let's take a step back and look at things with a view from Intel's Xeon roadmap. The picture below is from a partner presentation and although it's been seen before, we're going to leave that partner un-named as we don't want to get them in any trouble. As you can see, it detai....
