Wii U Will Not Have Its Own Social Online Platform

Wii U Will Not Have Its Own Social Online Platform

Posted on Jul 07, 2011 by MG1

While Nintendo has said the next version of the Wii home console will have a better online experience, it sounds like it still won't be up to par with the PS3 or the Xbox 360.
And according to Nintendo, that is its own decision. It believes in letting third-party companies create their own, individualized online platforms, rather than creating a centralized network like the PSN or Xbox Live.
In an interview with Forbes, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime said the company's next home console will have a more robust online experience, commenting, "What we’re doing is creating a much more flexible system that will allow the best approaches by independent publishers to come to bear."

It’s already live in Japan, now the console’s TV service could well hit UK shores in a couple of weeks. An invite has just landed in Electricpig’s inbox straight from Nintendo, asking us to pencil in an event on the 19th.
So what can we expect? And how’s it going to impact on your 3DS? Read on for full details.
“We would love you to join us on 19th July 2011 for an exclusive Nintendo 3DS event,” reads the invite from Nintendo. “More will be revealed next week, but trust us when we say you won’t believe your eyes!”
Hmm. We can only think this’ll be the UK unveiling of the 3DS TV service that hit Japan a couple of weeks ago. The Japanese service is giving daily updates for most shows, as well ...

Japanese 3DS to get 3D TV service, North America waits with bated breath

Japanese 3DS to get 3D TV service, North America waits with bated breath

Posted on Jun 21, 2011 by MG1

3DS owners outside of Japan can look forward to missing out on yet another Nintendo sponsored video service -- at least for now. With the help of Fuji TV, Nintendo's Itsu no Ma ni Terebi (or "SpotPass TV") will bring a number of short format 3D TV programs to the fledgling handheld, including shows featuring cute animals, sumo wrestling idol girls, and daily tips on performing magic tricks. Like its Wii predecessor, this video service is currently a Japan-only affair, but there's still plenty of summer left for the big-N to make good on its GDC Netflix promise.

Nintendo To Introduce New Wii U Prototype

Nintendo To Introduce New Wii U Prototype

Posted on Jun 20, 2011 by MG1

Developers are about to get their hands on a new version of Nintendo's impending Wii U console.
Within the next month, the company plans to have a brand new prototype of the device ready for developers, many of whom seem to be excited about the console even though the rest of us don't have many details.
Gary Dunn of Sega Europe told Eurogamer in an interview that the Wii U specs are far from being concrete, and even Nintendo's closest partners don't know everything the final version will entail. "It's still a little early. There's another generation of prototype hardware coming out in June or July that's going to give us more information," he said.

Nintendo 3DS has dented the adoption of 3D on portable devices

Nintendo 3DS has dented the adoption of 3D on portable devices

Posted on Jun 20, 2011 by MG1

The Nintendo 3DS is a failure, at least according to Ian Baverstock, co-founder of gaming consultancy group Tenshi Ventures. And, because the handheld console hasn't offered the greatest of first impressions of glasses-less 3D, he also believes that its legacy could be damaging for future stereoscopic devices.
Speaking at The Futuresource Entertainment Summit in London, Baverstock, who was joined on stage by Andrew Oliver, chief technical officer of Blitz Games Studios, was not unforthcoming with damning remarks for the Nintendo device: "The 3DS has dented the adoption of 3D on portable devices," he said. "A lot of people turn the 3D feature on the 3DS down or off completely. It's fundament....
