Apple iPhone 5 be thinner, lighter than current model according to WSJ

Apple iPhone 5 be thinner, lighter than current model according to WSJ

Posted on Jul 06, 2011 by MG1

The Wall Street Journal is singing a new tune Wednesday morning, reaffirming parts of an earlier BGR report suggesting that Apple is preparing to release a redesigned iPhone 5 later this year. Citing anonymous sources in Apple’s supply chain, the paper reports this morning that Apple has placed component orders with key suppliers for fifth-generation iPhone parts. As has already been widely reported, Apple’s next iPhone is said to feature an 8-megapixel camera and Qualcomm radios. The report veers away from the consensus in suggesting that Apple’s next iPhone will not share its design with the current iPhone 4, however, and will instead be thinner and lighter than the current model. BGR repo...

AT&T offering standard insurance for all iPhone models from July 17th

AT&T offering standard insurance for all iPhone models from July 17th

Posted on Jul 05, 2011 by MG1

The iPhone has been an AT&T exclusive since day one, but unlike other phones on the carrier, the original iPhone couldn't be insured. Things have changed with later models, but you still weren't eligible for standard insurance and had to pay a whopping $12 a month and $199 in deductibles if you used the iPhone.
This however is set to change once and for all as AT&T has updated its standard insurance policy now including all iPhone models. The monthly mobile insurance price runs at the much lighter on the pocket $4.99, which covers pretty much everything: loss, theft, accidental physical or liquid damage and mechanical or electrical failure. The deductible should be set at $125, if we are to ...

iPhone 5 rumor claims 15 million units to come out of the assembly line; shipping to start in September

Posted on Jul 05, 2011 by MG1

Few would disagree with us if we say that the iPhone 5, or whatever it will be called when it hits the market, is among the most anticipated smartphones right now. Just look at all the speculation that Apple's next greatest creation is being subjected to – everybody is trying to guess what it will look like, how much it will cost, and, most importantly, when it will be up for sale.
Once again, the latest iPhone 5-related rumor comes from our favorite hit-or-miss source DigiTimes, which means that you might want to take it with a grain of salt. It is said that Pegatron Technology, a Taiwan-based notebook manufacturer, has received an order to produce 15 million iPhone 5s and is expected to st...

Now you can get an early prototype iPhone 4 on eBay

Now you can get an early prototype iPhone 4 on eBay

Posted on Jul 05, 2011 by MG1

If you've ever wondered how a possibly early build of the iPhone4 looks like, despite not being able to activate it or operate it in any way, now you can get yours on eBay for over $1,700.
The device carries a product number DF1692, a unique identification given to each Apple employee, so you might also expect to get contacted by Apple, but for the time being the auction is alive and well.
Visually, the prototype iPhone 4 mimics the looks of the final device with the only notable difference being the lack of “+” and “-” signs on the volume buttons. No activation also means that the amount of memory on the handset is a guessing game. The seller, Jtmaxo, claims to be a licensed phone repairme...

Parts suppliers detail timing for iPhone 5, iPad 3

Posted on Jul 04, 2011 by MG1

Taiwan-based companies that are part of the supply chain for the Apple iPhone 5 and the Apple iPad 3 have begun to prepare materials for the production of the two devices. Apple plans to launch just one new iPhone model this time. Meanwhile, the iPad 3 has just recently been added to the production schedule. Both will be produced in small volumes in August, with units ramping up in September and October, according to industry sources cited by DigiTimes.
Most market watchers have estimated that Apple's iPhone supply volume will only reach 20 million units in the third quarter and iPad's supply volume will only be at around 11 million to 12 million units due to the slower-than-expected progres...

Apple iPhone 3GS to be free on contract following iPhone 5 launch, analyst says

Apple iPhone 3GS to be free on contract following iPhone 5 launch, analyst says

Posted on Jun 30, 2011 by MG1

Apple is set to finally hit the $0 on-contract mark with its entry-level iPhone 3GS once it launches the next-generation iPhone 5 later this year. In a note to investors on Wednesday, RBC Capital Markets General Manager Mike Abramsky claims Apple is expected to finally offer the phone for free in an effort to aggressively attack mid-market smartphone buyers and counter Android’s momentum. Abramsky sees this move more than doubling Apple’s global addressable market to 150 million smartphones, up from 64 million, and it will drastically accelerate Apple’s growth outside North America. In the U.S., this of course begs the question, how will Verizon Wireless stay competitive with AT&T? Apple doe...

China Mobile worker outs iPhone 5, due in September

China Mobile worker outs iPhone 5, due in September

Posted on Jun 24, 2011 by MG1

A China Mobile employee allegedly revealed that the popular Chinese carrier will launch Apple’s fifth-generation iPhone this coming September, Ticonderoga Securities analyst Brian White wrote in a note to investors on Thursday. The news jibes with multiple earlier reports that Apple’s iPhone 5 is set to launch this September, though it may launch even sooner in the U.S. and other key markets. The news was first relayed by Chinese language website Bianews.com, which reported on Thursday that a China Mobile employee wrote that the carrier would launch the iPhone 5 in September in a post on Weibo.com, a micro-blogging service similar to Twitter. The post was subsequently deleted. Apple COO Tim ...

T-Mobile USA now home to over 1 million iPhones

T-Mobile USA now home to over 1 million iPhones

Posted on Jun 23, 2011 by MG3

T-Mobile USA has gone on record in stating that its network is now home to more than 1 million unlocked Apple iPhones. While the figure is not incredibly surprising considering the massive popularity of Apple’s smartphone line, it certainly reaffirms the fact that T-Mobile subscribers are itching for an iOS option. Though the overwhelming bulk of iPhones being used on T-Mobile’s network are 3G and 3GS models, unnamed T-Mobile spokespeople also confirmed that the carrier has micro-SIMs in development. For the time being, iPhone 4 owners who want to use their devices on T-Mobile’s network have to perform a bit of surgery on their T-Mobile SIM cards.

If iPhone gets NFC, Google ports Wallet

If iPhone gets NFC, Google ports Wallet

Posted on Jun 23, 2011 by MG3

Google Wallet seems like a significant step forward towards NFC adoption, but until now, the service was expected to work only on devices running Android – the Google-backed mobile OS. However, it must have been clear to the Mountain View-based company that without Wallet being accessible on as many handsets on the market as possible, it would have a bumpy road ahead of it.

iPhone 5 rumored packing dual LED camera flash

Posted on Jun 23, 2011 by MG3

Apple's commitment to the iPhone as a camera phone might have grown as a rumor late Wednesday said it might jump to a dual LED flash. Edison Opto, Everlight Electronics, and Lite-On have all been raised as possible candidates. Both Edison and Lite-On have been stepping up their shipments of LED flashes to major phone designers, Digitimes heard, making them ideal candidates.

Apple iPhone 5 coming in September, latest report says

Apple iPhone 5 coming in September, latest report says

Posted on Jun 23, 2011 by MG1

The Apple iPhone rumors go into overdrive this year because Steve Jobs didn’t introduce the 2011 model at WWDC and Bloomberg is reporting that the next iPhone (iPhone 5? iPhone 4GS?) will land in September, just in time for the back-to-school season.
The report says that the iPhone 5 will sport the new dual-core processor that can be found in the iPad 2 and it should also have a boosted camera. I’d expect it to be bumped up to 8 megapixels but find that the 5-megapixel camera in the current version is very, very good.
The report also says that the next iPhone will look similar to the latest one on the market, which is a direct dispute of another recent rumor which says that this version will...

iPhone 4 becomes the most popular camera on Flickr

iPhone 4 becomes the most popular camera on Flickr

Posted on Jun 22, 2011 by MG3

The iPhone 4 has just become the most popular camera on Flickr beating the Nikon D90 who long held the crown and made us wonder about all the possible reasons behind it. A look at Flickr's stats shows that its professional and semi-professional DSLRs that occupy the rankings as the Canon EOS 5D Mark II comes third, followed by the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi and the Canon EOS Rebel T1i. One thing is evident – the iPhone 4 has a far inferior camera than all of them.

Apple suppliers cut iPhone 4 production ahead of iPhone 5 launch

Apple suppliers cut iPhone 4 production ahead of iPhone 5 launch

Posted on Jun 22, 2011 by MG3

Printed circuit board (PCB) suppliers in Taiwan have noticed “disappointing orders” for iPhone and iPad hardware, according to DigiTimes. As a result, the suppliers have cut quotes by 10% on average for the second quarter, noting that there’s no sign of a rebound. The drop in iPhone hardware orders suggests that Apple’s highly anticipated next-generation iPhone is imminent; it’s largely expected that the company will take the wraps off of the device in September.

iPhone 5 could have new case design, possible August launch

iPhone 5 could have new case design, possible August launch

Posted on Jun 22, 2011 by MG1

Looks like Apple's latest handset might not be an iPhone 4S after all, with the Cupertino based company planning a brand new design for the smartphone.
BGR has cited a reliable source as expecting a "radical new case design for the upcoming iPhone, though we have not been given any additional details".
The website is also pointing to an Apple event at the beginning of August, aiming to get the iPhone 5 into stores by the end of that month.
Apple had until now been believed to be releasing iPhone 5 details at their iPod focussed annual September event. It may now be that they move iPod release information forward so as not to distract from the new phone launch.
The rumours of a case redesig...
