Rollei has added three new models to its Powerflex digital camera family. The ultra-slim Rollei Powerflex 400 (€79.90) is a 14-megapixel compact with a 25-125mm equivalent zoom lens, 720p HD movie recording and 32 scene modes. The 16-megapixel Rollei Powerflex 500 (€99.90) features a 28-140mm equivalent lens, 35 scene modes, HD video recording and a 3-second pre-recording function. Finally, the 14-megapixel Rollei Powerflex 600 (€129.90) has a three-inch display and a 25-200mm equivalent 8x zoom lens with optical image stabilisation. Like the Powerflex 400 it comes with 35 scene modes, a 3-second pre-record function and 720p HD video recording capability.

Other highlights include in-camera panorama stitching, a 720p HD video mode, advanced smart scene detection, HDR imaging, a 5cm super macro mode and a 27-108mm (eq.) f/2.9-6.5 lens. Nikon has posted firmware updates for its new Nikon 1 J1 and Nikon 1 V1 compact system cameras. Version 1.10 adds a pixel mapping function and support for the FT-1 adapter that enables users to attach F-mount lenses to these cameras. You can download the firmware updates from the websites below.

The BenQ GH600 is a 16-megapixel camera with 25-525mm equivalent zoom lens. Unlike its stablemate the BenQ GH700, the GH600 shoots 720p rather than 1080p video. uses a CCD rather than a BSI CMOS sensor, and features Tv and Av shooting modes in addtion to P and M. Otherwise the two models are quite similar, sharing the same 21x zoom lens, optical image stabilisation and 3” rear screen with a resolution of 460,000 dots. The BenQ GH600 is available in white and black colours.

Nikon has taken the unusual step of updating the firmware of its discontinued CoolPix P7000 enthusiast compact. Firmware v1.2 offers a broad selection of improvements and bug fixes, ranging from improved AF targeting to the correction of an error that meant the color temperature scale was reversed when correcting White Balance during in-camera Raw processing. The updated firmware can be downloaded from Nikon's websites.

SuVolta's PowerShrink was first revealed earlier ths year, as we review later in this story. But this week, SuVolta and initial licensee Fujitsu used the IEEE International Electron Devices Meeting in Washington, D.C., to announce that the technology has been successfully demonstrated -- and also to shed a little more light on how it works.
According to the companies, the power consumption of SRAM has steadily ramped downwards as chips get smaller in size. For example, power supply voltages have fallen to around 1.0V for devices produced using 130nm fabrication.

A historic tube station in Aldwych, which is a popular tourist destination, has banned the use of digital SLR cameras by visitors.
Now out of use, the station, which charges £20 for entry, has been used in a number of films and television programmes. A sign appeared outside the station reading "Due to their combination of high-quality sensor and high resolution, digital SLR cameras are unfortunately not permitted inside the station."

Leica has issued a new firmware upgrade for its M9 and M9-P full-frame digital rangefinder cameras.
Firmware update v. 1.176 fixes the issue several users had reported when using SanDick memory cards. According to a statement from the company, all card types available from SanDisk have been fully tested by the Leica expert technical team and the firmware guarantees full functionality.
The Leica M9 is the world's smallest full-frame interchangeable lens camera, while the M9-P, features the same internal specifications but also includes a sapphire crystal LCD screen with anti-reflective coating for improved visibility.

Ricoh will soon add a new lens module to its GXR camera, the company's Japanese website and roadmap revealed. It will be based on an APS-C sized CMOS sensor and use a 24-85mm equivalent zoom lens. The sensor is likely to use a Sony 16-megapixel chip for the module like that in the NEX-C3.
The lens is expected to get f3.5-5.5 aperture, and an official announcement is supposedly due at CES, with a January 20 launch. The timing coincides with the "early 2012" date mentioned in the roadmap. Prices and other technical details are not yet available, however

Sony has released the long-rumored firmware v1.04 update for its A77 and A65 SLT models. The updates add two more lenses to the list that the cameras can correct for and also promise to improve image quality, response time and 'usability.' The updates are currently available in Asia and Europe but haven't been formally announced in the US. Following our reviews of the SLT-A77 and SLT-A65 we will install the latest firmware and update the reviews as necessary.

Nikon's released firmware updates for three Nikon 1 lenses, fixing an issue that caused image data to record the camera's aperture setting incorrectly, and an issue that caused blurred images immediately after the camera was shaken. If those crazy kids at Nikon Rumors are to be believed, we're finally getting a good look at the long-awaited Nikon D800. Said to be "smaller and lighter than [the] D700," the report states that the 7,360 x 4,912 (36-megapixel) DSLR will feature 1080p (30/25/24) and 720p (60/30/25/24) video recording, a slightly larger display, video quality "better than D3s," autofocus identical to the D3 and D700, and slots for CompactFlash and SD memory cards. The excitement around the impending mirrorless camera from Fujifilm is starting to build as leaked pictures and details about its new sensor have been revealed online.

According to Mirrorless Rumors, the new LX camera will be the first to use an "organic sensor." In its announcement about the development of the camera, Fuji stated that the camera will be using a new type of sensor which it promises will outperform current full frame sensors.

Leaked images from the factory, although blurred, seem to reveal a camera which is similar in appearance to the Leica M9.

Canon has released updated firmware for its EOS 5D Mark II full-frame DSLR. Firmware v2.2.1 corrects a bug that meant only a single image was captured in continuous shooting mode or AE bracketing continuous mode. It also corrects some menu errors for Dutch language users.
