Sharp has reported an extraordinary loss of 117.1 billion yen ($1.4 billion) for the financial year ending March 2012. The company has cited restructuring costs and inventory losses as the causes for the write-down, but also projected that its TV business would lose a further 18.7 percent of its projected sales in the current year. The company has decided to convert some of its big-screen LCD production lines into mobile LCDs as it tries to reassert its dwindling display business. It's yet more bad news after the company sold part of its LCD manufacturing business to Hon Hai, Sony withdrew from a joint venture and refused to deal with Sharp in the future, plus an 86 percent collapse in profi...

Samsung unpacks the Galaxy tomorrow, we'll be liveblogging the London event right here!

We have 24 hours and change to find out for sure, however, so bookmark this page to stay abreast of the news as it happens in our liveblog. The show kicks...

In an effort to achieve continuity in the user experience, Mozilla has announced that it is working on a standard that will give Firefox a similar look and feel no matter where you are using it, whether it is a computer, a tablet, or a smartphone.
Mozilla says it is looking to take a “soft, friendly, and human” design approach. The design standard is called Australis and features a clean, minimalistic design with a lot of curved edges. The new UI will still sport platform specific features such as the ability to swipe in a certain direction to open a pa...

European privacy regulators now contend that Google was far less cooperative with them than they had believed during their investigation of the search giant's Wi-Fi capturing scandal. Ars Technica reports that regulators claim they feel as though Google misled them, revealing only as much about the company's culpability as they felt hard evidence required.
Spokespersons for the Hamburg Data Protection Authority, which has headed up an audit of Google's liability in the scandal, contend that Google was not as forthcoming as they could have been with pertinent evidence. Other regulators have related similar concerns to The New York Times, casting doubt on Google's original contention that the ...

To prove just how much quicker it is for mobile users, Google has created a test that pitches SPDY against basic HTTP on a Galaxy Nexus running Chrome for Android, loading 77 pages from multiple popular websites and comparing the load times when SPDY is enabled. In practice, it found that SPDY made sites load 23 percent faster on average.
