Unreleased MacBook Pro prototype with built-in 3G hits eBay
Like UnlikeFiled in: NotebooksApple
A still-ongoing eBay auction has validated suspicions that Apple has been testing 3G-capable Macs for years. The 2007-era MacBook Pro prototype, originally bought off of Craigslist for parts, has a built-in Dynastream ANT2USB modem modified to fit in the aluminum chassis. It includes not just the necessary SIM card slot for the HSPA 3G access but a retractable antenna that would sit flush with one corner of the display.

ASUS Eee Pad Slider shows off its specs, may launch in September
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsASUSEee Pad Slider SL101
ASUS' Eee Pad Slider is fast becoming just as mythical as the flying horse the company's named after. We've had several encounters with potential release windows for the slate, only to see it continually creep back into fall. Well, judging by a recent report from Notebook Italia and the tab's new product page, it looks like we may actually see a September launch for the 10.1-incher -- in Italy. Contrary to prior rumors, the company will be offering the Slider in two storage configurations -- 16GB and 32GB at potential €479 and €599 price points overseas, while $400 and $550 models should hit the US.

Production of Apple's next-gen A6 processor begins at TSMC; A6 devices to launch Q2 2012
Like UnlikeFiled in: CPUApple
Trial production of Apple’s next-generation A6 mobile processor has begun, Taiwan Economic News reports. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. has kicked off a test run of A6 chipsets — which could be 28-nanometer SoCs that feature dual or quad-cores and ARM-based architecture according to earlier reports — and Apple devices carrying the new chips are expected to be released in the second quarter next year at the earliest, according to multiple anonymous industry sources. Reports dating back to June suggested that Apple dumped Samsung following multiple patent disputes, and the company would instead utilize TSMC for production of its next-generation A6 processor.

Apple patent reveals it hasn't dropped the idea to make switching carriers a breeze
Like UnlikeFiled in: Apple
Remember when European carriers went Tony Soprano on Apple when it wanted to plant an embeddable, programmable SIM card in its next iPhone? They threatened to cut subsidies for the iPhone, and let it wither and die under the crush of its own price tag, if Apple tries to circumvent them.

Is this the iPhone 5? Nah, but it's the best fake we've seen so far
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesAppleiPhone 4s
Okay, hold your breaths, clean your glasses and watch carefully... this may not be the iPhone 5, but it's the best fake we've seen so far. It's more than just a picture – it's a whole video claiming to be recorded from Apple's Swiss website, where the iPhone 5 page has been supposedly put on the web and accessible via a hidden link. Ridiculous? Yes. But wait until you see the skill and time invested in this footage – it includes a whole gallery of pictures allegedly showing the next-gen iPhone, but also a separate page listing its full specifications including a dual-core A5 chip and an 8-megapixel camera capable of 1080p video recording at 30fps.

According to Dan Nystedt, ex IDG news, Compal is to start shipments of their first batch of Windows Phone 7 smartphones for Nokia, expected to include the Nokia Sea Ray.
The shipments would be in time for the announcement and simultaneous release of the handset at Nokia World in London on October 26th, and will apparently total 2 million handsets in Q4 2011.
If Nokia does manage to sell all of those handsets it would mean a substantial bump in the number of Windows Phone 7 handsets sold in 2011, currently likely sitting around 5 million.
Nokia has said in 2012 volume shipments will start which will flood the market with a variety of handsets at a variety of price points.

RIM might acquire shares in Dropbox and see what that cloud thing is all about
Like UnlikeFiled in: RIM BlackBerry
Is RIM getting ready to hop on board the cloud-based storage bandwagon? If the rumors are to be believed, that sure might be on the company's agenda. There is a speculation going around claiming that Research in Motion is about to acquire an undisclosed amount of shares in Dropbox, the popular online cloud service, and would supposedly integrate the functionality into its lineup of mobile devices. It is said that a former RIM employee was the one who let the cat out of the bag. Further details surrounding the alleged deal, however, remain a mystery for now.

Intel to Offer CPU Upgrades via Software for Selected Models
Like UnlikeFiled in: CPUIntel
Intel has posted an upgrade service page on their website which indicates that Intel will again be offering upgradeable CPUs. This is not totally unheard of since Intel offered a similar service for Pentium G6951 a year ago. Back then, $50 bought you Hyper-Threading and 1MB more L3 cache, and the SKU of the CPU changed to G6952. This time Intel has expanded the lineup and the upgrade service is available for three CPUs: i3-2312M, i3-2102 and Pentium G622. Unfortunately we don't know the price yet but we do know that the upgrade offers higher frequency and possibly increased amount of cache.

Closing Nokia stores should be converted to Microsoft stores
Like UnlikeFiled in: MicrosoftNOKIA
With Nokia’s fortunes falling, they have been forced to shutter some of their stores because of decreased demand. They have closed stores in the UK, US and recently in Russia. These stores were located in prime location so it is shame to see them go. I have no idea if Nokia still owns the buildings but wouldn’t be great if Microsoft bought these stores and converted them to Microsoft stores? They are already in ideal locations, already designed to sell electronic devices so the remodel and conversion should be quick.
