Eric Scmidt confirms ICS for October or November (w/ video of full Dreamforce interview)

Eric Schmidt is a dream for journalists. He is constantly giving out great quotes and sound bytes, regardless if he means to or not. In his recent interview at the Dreamforce conference, Eric went through an overview of the history of Android and even let it slip that Ice Cream Sandwich is almost ready and will be released in either October or November.
This information jives perfectly with everything that we've heard about ICS and the Nexus Prime/DROID Prime, which will be the flagship device for the new version of the OS. It's definitely good to hear that everything is still on track. And, even better is the bit where Eric said it may be released in November, meaning that Google is not ru...

With the release of the Motorola DROID BIONIC officially coming tomorrow, we'd first recommend that you view our Unboxing and Benchmarking videos of the device.
But if you still can't get enough of all things BIONIC, or you just love to read through large PDF files, you may want to take a look through the DROID BIONIC user guide (link below). It basically shows the layout of the phone and how to perform different operations - such as setting up your email, using the camera and camcorder, social networking, playing music, saving contacts and placing calls.
You might also want to skip over to page 44, as it talks about the new ZUMOCAST app, which allows you to remotely access your PC while usi...

Samsung accidentally confirms the upcoming Nexus Prime

Samsung accidentally confirms the upcoming Nexus Prime

Posted on Sep 08, 2011 by MG1

Samsung has accidentally confirmed the existence of the next Nexus device by uploading something called a “user agent profile”. Mobile phone makers create said files so developers and websites know the capabilities of the device a user is using to access their content. While it doesn’t provide a complete spec sheet, it does give some hints as to what we can come to expect. For one thing, the name “Nexus Prime” has finally been confirmed. We’d honestly be shocked if Google or Samsung decided to change this. Next up, we know the technical name of the device, the “GT-I9250″. This will come in handy when combing through FCC documents and other certification pages, looking for hints as to the typ...

Following recent rumblings surrounding discontent atop Yahoo’s executive chain, the struggling Internet company fired its CEO Carol Bartz. In the same stroke, Yahoo! also revealed that it is for sale. News broke Tuesday night that former chief executive Carol Bartz sent an email to the entire Yahoo organization. In her brief note, she stated that Yahoo’s chairman of the board had fired her — over the phone, no less. Yahoo confirmed the news, stating that Chief Financial Officer Tim Morse would step in as interim CEO while the company searches for a new chief. Following the news, a Yahoo employee speaking with The Wall Street Journal also confirmed that the company would be open to selling it...

Things just keep getting bleaker for RIM. With its revenues stagnating and smartphone market share dwindling, the BlackBerry maker is now facing new financial pressure from Jaguar Financial Group -- a Canadian merchant bank and RIM shareholder that's calling upon the company to do one of two rather unpleasant things: sell itself, or sell its patent portfolio. In an open letter to RIM's board of directors, Jaguar CEO Vic Alboni criticized the manufacturer for failing to "inspire consumer enthusiasm" for its products, and for bringing its devices to market too late. And, as share prices continue to drop, Alboni thinks it's time to make a change:
The status quo is not acceptable, the company ca...

AT&T to release the Huawei Impulse 4G for $29.99

AT&T to release the Huawei Impulse 4G for $29.99

Posted on Sep 08, 2011 by MG1

AT&T has just announced a new smartphone called Huawei Impulse 4G, a low-end entry into Android and AT&T’s 4G market. The Impulse 4G will have a 3.8-inch screeen with 480×800 screen resolution, and running Android 2.2. It also has a 5 MP camera on the back with auto-focus, flash, and 720p video recording. Customers will be able to get their hands on this phone for $29.99 with the usual 2-year contract extension on Sept. 18.
Now, the Huawei Impulse doesn’t have any wow factor whatsoever; users should probably expect a dated single-core processor inside along with a max of 512MB of RAM, which is pretty standard for a low-level phone nowadays. This may be a good device for those customers who w...

The Sony PS Vita – the company’s replacement to the PSP – has gone up for pre-order at Amazon, with the retailer suggesting a December 31 2011 ship date in the US. Both Amazon’s US and UK sites are offering the Vita, each having the WiFi-only and WiFi + 3G versions up for grabs. Pricing starts at $249.99 in the US and £229.99 in the UK.

In the US you’ll need to sign up to an AT&T data agreement in order to actually use that 3G connectivity, and Sony – or Amazon – is yet to confirm which carrier(s) the UK version of the handheld will be offered with.

MSI's reverse fan tech keeps dust out, graphic cards chilled

Posted on Sep 08, 2011 by MG1

We've all been there, trying in vain to remove dust caked onto the fans of componentry inside our rigs. It's mostly a fruitless endeavor, but here to save us from the horde of dust bunnies invading our graphics card is MSI's dust removal technology. Available on the company's "Lightning Xtreme" edition of the GTX580, soot is annihilated by spinning that card's fans at full throttle in reverse for thirty seconds after boot. That's apparently an effective method for flinging accumulated grime off the spinners and (hopefully) into a spot you can actually reach. Unconvinced it'll work? Well then, mosey on over to the source link bub, and prepare yourself for video proof of the fan-powered filth ...

Vestel shows off a prototype BitTorrent Certified TV at IFA

Far from sneaking in to the living room, Vestel had a BitTorrent Certified television on display at IFA 2011 this past week. That official stamp means it packs the usual suite of connected TV features including playing local media across the network, and it's guaranteed to work with BitTorrent approved files from the internet. There's no word on any official release for this prototype -- and we haven't been able to locate anyone who got a hands-on demo, let us know if you saw it -- but it definitely shows how BitTorrent is trying to expand its platform in a manner similar to DivX and XBMC / Boxee. Check out the press release after the break, we'll be sitting back and watching some totally le...

Epson Unveils EH-TW9000W Projector

Epson Unveils EH-TW9000W Projector

Posted on Sep 07, 2011 by MG1

Filed in: ProjectorsEpson

Last week, Epson unveiled their first 3D projector, the EH-T9000W. Today, the company unveiled a second model, the EH-TW9000W. This version seems very similar to the model announced last week. It comes with full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution, 2400 ANSI lumens, and a 200000:1 contrast ratio. Today, a writer from Tech Digest released a preview video of this projector. Not only is the EH-TW9000W 3D capable, but it also is able to receive 3D and 2D content through a wireless connection. This reduces the cables needed to only a power cord. Unfortunately specifications are limited at this time. Epson plans to release the EH-TW9000W in November for £2962 ($4725). Click the link below for more.
