The Samsung Galaxy Note has passed through the FCC with AT&T bands

Posted on Oct 03, 2011 by MG3

The massive Samsung Galaxy Note with its 5.3-inch Super AMOLED display has just passed through the FCC with support for AT&T 3G bands suggesting its release is just around the corner.
The Samsung Galaxy Note is somewhat of a hybrid device. It is a cross between a smartphone and a tablet which is similar to what Dell tried to accomplish with the original Streak. Not only does the Galaxy Note pack a whopping 5.3-inch Super AMOLED display (with an equally impressive 1280x800 resolution), it is powered by a dual-core 1.4GHz processor and 1GB of RAM.

AT&T asks judge to toss Sprint lawsuit

AT&T asks judge to toss Sprint lawsuit

Posted on Oct 03, 2011 by MG3

Filed in: AT&T

AT&T has asked a federal judge to toss a lawsuit brought against it by Sprint, Reuters reported on Friday. Sprint filed its lawsuit on September 6th and said it was fighting “on behalf of consumers and competition.” Sprint also argued that AT&T’s planned acquisition of T-Mobile USA is “illegal.” As one might expect, AT&T does not see eye-to-eye with Sprint on those allegations. “Sprint cannot wrap itself in the cloak of wireless service consumers’ interest because Sprint is not a consumer but instead a competitor in the sale of wireless services,” AT&T said in its court filing, noting that Sprint’s argument has a “lack of standing.” AT&T also responded to Sprint’s lawsuit earlier this month ...

White Samsung Galaxy S II hitting Canada's Bell on October 7th

White Samsung Galaxy S II hitting Canada's Bell on October 7th

Posted on Oct 03, 2011 by MG3

Well if all those British carriers can get the white version of the Samsung Galaxy S II, so can a Canada-based operator. Bell Mobility is Samsung’s “partner in crime” and will start selling the super-sexy smartphone on October 7th. In other words, if you live in Canada, still haven’t “pushed the button” and grabbed some device, maybe it’s wise to wait for one more week. You’ll be able to grab this baby… or perhaps the Apple iPhone 5 (or that’s 4S). If you do choose to “take the Android road,” you’ll have to pour out CA$149.95 for the white Galaxy S II along with committing on a way-too-long three-year contract. Alternatively, you will be able to cash out CA$599.95 and grab the phone sans any...

Playbook Price Cut, $300 Made Permanent — Too Little Too Late?

Posted on Oct 03, 2011 by MG3

Last weekend we noticed that RIM was experimenting with a $200 price cut in Canada, however, with the unveiling of the Amazon Fire the company has decided to not just move its discount across the border, but make it permanent. The 16GB entry level playbook now starts at only $299 for Wi-Fi only, and goes up by $100 increments when moving up to the 32GB, and 64GB configurations.

Windows 8 Will Remember Your Settings Across PCs

Windows 8 Will Remember Your Settings Across PCs

Posted on Oct 03, 2011 by MG3

Microsoft is heavily pitching Windows 8 to be its most user-centric effort yet. One such feature is the ability to sync settings between different computers, so that users can have a similar and more seamless experience moving from one machine to the next.
This means that a Windows 8 user, if he or she chooses, can share settings and personalization between home and work or school computers, or perhaps even between multiple machines within the same home.

Intel introduced the world to the next generation of Thunderbolt controllers at IDF 2011 recently. We were told that the next-generation controllers, codenamed “Cactus Ridge," will be available next year when chips based on the Ivy Bridge architecture begin shipping. But a fresh rumor suggests that the two Cactus Ridge chipsets revealed earlier in the month aren’t the only Thunderbolt controllers that Intel has lined up.

Major Security Hole Uncovered in Samsung Galaxy S II for AT&T

Posted on Oct 03, 2011 by MG3

While reviewing the new Samsung Galaxy S II for AT&T, the folks at BGR noted something unusual. With the right combination of button presses, the device’s pattern and PIN lock screens can be bypassed. This makes locking the phone essentially pointless. The real ‘uh-oh’ here is that AT&T and Samsung were unaware of this flaw, uncovered by a simple reviewer.

Tablets, smartphones to get speed boost with new memory

Tablets, smartphones to get speed boost with new memory

Filed in: Cell PhonesTablets

A new form of mobile DDR3 memory that can speed up tablets, smartphones, and laptops could appear in devices starting as early as late next year, with adoption ramping up in 2013, analysts said on Thursday.
Low-power DDR3 memory -- also called LPDDR3 -- will bring a bigger data transfer pipe to tablets and smartphones, which could translate into better performance and longer battery life, analysts said. Standards-setting organization JEDEC (Joint Electron Device Engineering Council) is defining the specifications for LPDDR3, which draws heavily from conventional DDR3 DRAM found in PCs today.

Amazon Reportedly Interested in Buying Palm

Posted on Oct 03, 2011 by MG3

Amazon reportedly has Palm in its sights and is super close to pulling the trigger on a deal that could benefit both it and Hewlett Packard. Let's face it, HP screwed the pooch with its Palm acquisition with its 180 on webOS hardware, and even though the company claims it's committed to focusing on webOS software, that was never the sole intention. It's not surprising HP is shopping Palm, but will Amazon make a move?
