Verizon promises major Droid Bionic bug fix in November

Posted on Oct 03, 2011 by MG3

A Droid-Life reader contacted Verizon about some issues with his Droid Bionic smartphone and was rewarded for his efforts with a huge bug list and a timeline for fixing them. A fix for the 4G/3G connection issues is scheduled for November, and the high-pitch noise when using a headset, MMS bugs, Lapdock problems and others should be addressed at the same time. Verizon also cautions that users can't use non-Verizon or non-Motorola chargers and USB cables with the handset, and connecting eight devices at the same time won't work, unlike early promises.

Nokia Sabre joins Sea Ray in Windows Phone line up?

Posted on Oct 03, 2011 by MG3

The Nokia Sabre looks set to join the Nokia Sea Ray in the company's Windows Phone launch line up, after Microsoft accidentally included the product name in a competition's terms and conditions.
Naturally, the text has since been changed to remove the product names which, in its removal, kind of makes the Nokia Sabre seem all the more likely.
However, the Sea Ray is just a product codename, so there's no guarantee that the Nokia Sabre will hit the shelves with that moniker.

Samsung Galaxy W visits FCC with AT&T bands

Samsung Galaxy W visits FCC with AT&T bands

Posted on Oct 03, 2011 by MG3

The Samsung Galaxy W has just stopped by the FCC packing bands that are compatible with the AT&T network that suggests it could possibly arrive in the states sometime in the near future.
The Samsung Galaxy W has all of the makings of a mid-range smartphone when you consider the competition. It is an Android 2.3 Gingerbread device that packs a 3.7-inch display. Under the hood of the Galaxy W is a single-core 1.4GHz processor. That speed doesn’t shout mid-range but in a world ruled by other Android-powered handsets that are powered by dual-core processors it gets that title by default. The Galaxy W also has 512MB of RAM.

Mango kills Microsoft's always-on location tracking, makes good on letter to House of Representatives

Posted on Oct 03, 2011 by MG3

Remember all that iPhone tracking hubbub back in April? Sure you do -- you probably also recall Apple's denial, the subsequent Senate hearing, and the rest of the fiasco's dramatic fallout. Amid the ballyhoo, Microsoft stepped out to admit that its Windows Phone also collected location data, but quickly promised to knock it off following the next scheduled update. According to ChevronWP7 collaborator Rafael Rivera, Windows Phone 7.5 cinches it: Mango "no longer sends location data prior to being granted permission to do so." Redmond previously told the US House of Representatives that it only collected location data if a user expressly allowed an application to send it along -- a claim which...
