Apple Will Worry About iPad Competition When It Exists
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsAppleiPadiPad 2
When asked today about how Apple was handling the competition from lower-priced tablets—specifically the Kindle Fire—Apple CEO Tim Cook said, effectively, that it isn't a competition at all. Which would sound like hubris, if the numbers didn't back him up so strongly.

XFX Discontinues Double Lifetime Warranty with New Radeon Graphics Cards
Like UnlikeFiled in: Graphic CardsXFX
With the introduction of its Radeon HD 7970 graphics cards, XFX silently discontinued its famous "double-lifetime" product warranty policy, which made XFX graphics cards a worthy buy for overclockers. This warranty policy also added to the resale value of these cards. It allowed buyers to tamper with the supplied cooling solution (heatsink), by replacing them with their own without voiding warranty, it even gave lifetime warranty coverage to the original buyer, as well as to the person buying the product pre-used from an original buyer.

Huawei puts HTC, Samsung to shame with an Ice Cream Sandwich phone first
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesOperating SystemsSamsungHTCHuaweiGoogleAndroid 4.0
Android 4.0 “Ice Cream Sandwich” is now available on the first non-Nexus phone in the world, but it’s not from Samsung or HTC, as you might expect. Instead, Huawei can lay claim to the honour of being first out of the gate, while almost everyone else was stuck showing off new Android 2.3 “Gingerbread” phones at CES two weeks ago.
The rather charming Huawei Honor, with a 4-inch display, 1.4GHz processor and 8-megapixel camera is the first phone to ship with Android Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box, apart from the Google-backed Samsung Galaxy Nexus (The older Nexus S has also already received the update).

O2 data breach potentially shares your cellphone number with the world (Updated)
Like UnlikeFiled in: O2
There's an alarming rumor circulating that suggests that UK network O2 forwards your phone number to any website visited on a smartphone. Lewis Peckover built a site that displays the header data sent to sites you visit, finding a network-specific field called "x-up-calling-line-id" which displayed his number.

Nokia announces 1.5 billion S40 handset sales on eve of earnings call
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesNOKIA
Nokia chose today to announce the 1.5 billionth sale of a handset running the company's Series 40 operating system — the day after Apple announced its own staggering numbers and a day before Nokia's full-year earnings are due. That compares to about 183 million iPhones sold since its launch in 2007. First introduced on the Nokia 7110 in 1999, S40 is the less famous but ubiquitous sidekick to the Windows Phone OS Nokia adopted for its smartphone platform earlier this year. The 1.5 billion number is a good measure of Nokia's reach given that there are only about seven billion people on the planet, three billion of whom still don't have mobiles phones according to Nokia's estimates (and hopes).

Acer Iconia Tab A510 to hit European retailers this April?
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsAcerICONIA TAB A510-10k32u
Amidst the madness that was CES, Acer quietly snuck its Iconia Tab A510 onto the showroom floor, tucking the tablet into the folds of NVIDIA's booth. While the company was more than willing to fess up to the slate's specs -- quad-core Tegra 3 processor, skinned Ice Cream Sandwich UX, 1280 x 800 display -- little in the way of pricing and availability were revealed. If a report out of Germany is to be believed, however, Europeans (sorry, statesiders) might very well see the 10.1-incher hit retail as early as this April, with a €500 price tag in tow. That's all the rumor mill's wrought for now, folks, but we'll keep you posted should the news go official at CeBIT 2012.

Sony Tablet S and Tablet P Android 4.0 update 'this spring'
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsSonyTablet STablet P
Sony has told TechRadar that it will be bringing Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich to its tablet portfolio this spring – which is the first time the company has actually named a time frame for the update.
Before, Sony would only confirm a 'coming soon' but at an event in London, a spokesperson for the company said that ICS would be hitting both the Sony Tablet S and Sony Tablet P in the spring and at the same time.
This means that the tablets will be getting Ice Cream Sandwich around the same time as Sony's phone portfolio.

Sony also said that both tablets would be getting a new update in the near future which would bring Microsoft Office functionality but the company d...

Microsoft to end Points virtual currency tips source
Like UnlikeFiled in: Microsoft
I have never been a big fan of the points system that Microsoft uses. The thing that has always annoyed me is that it seemed I always had to spend more than I really should have for things purchased on Xbox since you had to buy at least 400 points at $5. Inevitably, I would need only a few more points to complete a purchase and had to buy 400 even if all I needed was 100. I am not the only one bothered by that and Microsoft is set to end the Points program this year according to a source.

Developers to choose Android over iOS in 2012
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsAppleGoogleAndroidiOS 5
Findings from two separate studies have found that Apple's influence in the mobile market looks set to dwindle in the coming years.
Analyst house Ovum released results from its annual developer survey this week, which suggests that Android could become the most important operating system to developers this year, overtaking iOS's dominance.
The study also noted the growing support behind the Blackberry and Windows Phone platforms, which could see the mobile market become even more competitive, as developers explore opportunities across all systems.

I always think I download a lot of apps and other material for my smartphone and when I used an iPhone, I thought it was packed with apps. I had the smallest storage version of the smartphone though and was never in danger of running out of space. Many people are now opting for the big storage version of the 4S according to the latest numbers from Consumer Intelligence Research Partners.

Samsung NX200 coming in February?
Like UnlikeFiled in: CamerasSamsungNX200
Rumours are suggesting that Samsung will announce an NX20 in February, which will then be available from April.
Seemingly another manufacturer that is keen to cash in on the popular retro trend that is currently being displayed by the likes of the Fujifilm X Pro1 and the Olympus PEN E-P3, the Samsung NX20 is said to feature a vintage design.
Other rumoured specs include a 1.8 million pixel electronic viewfinder, full manual control and a swivelling AMOLED display screen.
Sources suggest that the new compact system camera will have the same sensor as the Samsung NX200, but will feature a faster processor and buffer. Two new lenses, a 16-80mm and 12-24mm, are also rumoured to be making their d...

Google Is Betraying Itself
Like UnlikeFiled in: Google
From a 2004 Playboy interview with Larry Page, in which the Google co-founder describes a very different company from the one we use now:
PLAYBOY: Portals attempt to create what they call sticky content to keep a user as long as possible.
PAGE: That's the problem. Most portals show their own content above content elsewhere on the web. We feel that's a conflict of interest, analogous to taking money for search results. Their search engine doesn't necessarily provide the best results; it provides the portal's results. Google conscientiously tries to stay away from that. We want to get you out of Google and to the right place as fast as possible. It's a very different model.
