MSI Radeon HD 7970 Lightning Overclocked to 1800 MHz Core, 7.70 GHz Memory
Like UnlikeFiled in: Graphic CardsMSIR7970-2PMD3GD5/OC
If you thought MSI made too much song and dance about the product design of its R7970 Lightning, particularly the GPU Reactor module, think again. When augmented with liquid nitrogen cooling, the card has the electrical muscle required to sustain 1.7V, and facilitate a staggering 1800 MHz core clock speed, with 1925 MHz memory (7.70 GHz GDDR5 effective), churning out a gargantuan memory bandwidth of close to 370 GB/s, all thanks to the genius of Swedish proverclocker Elmor.
This R7970 Lightning on 'roid-rage was stable enough to bag a 3DMark 11 (performance preset) score of P15035 points. The rest of the test-bed consisted of an Intel Core i7-3960X Extreme Edition six-core chip clocked at 5...

Samsung Galaxy S II on Three gets Ice Cream Sandwich
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesOperating SystemsSamsungGoogleGalaxy S IIAndroid 4.0
Samsung Galaxy S II owners who are signed up to Three can now update their phones to Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). The network provider has made the new operating system available via Samsung Kies.
Samsung had previously announced that the software update would start to roll out to its devices from yesterday, 19 March, and it has remained true to its word. Three is the first network to announce its availability in the UK, however.
Previously, Samsung had released a statement saying that eventual roll-out dates for ICS would be left to individual providers. "The availability of software upgrades in the UK will be dependent upon each network’s own software approvals process," it said.

Panasonic Eluga available in Japan on March 29th, Europe in April
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesPanasonicELUGA
Panasonic's 4.3-inch water- and dust-resistant P-04D Android handset — also known as the Eluga — is coming to NTT Docomo on March 29th. The device is an experiment from Panasonic to see if it can appeal to international customers with a good-looking, stripped-down experience free from the bells and whistles typically found on phones for the Japanese market — say, like the Disney branding on a nearly identical handset.
While the European and Japanese versions of the phone are both launching with Gingerbread, Panasonic is claiming an update to Android 4.0 will be available by summer. The Eluga was originally expected to land in Europe in March, but Panasonic's European site now says that the s...

Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsMicrosoftNOKIAWindows Phone 7Symbian 4
Microsoft’s market share in the United States may have been slipping as of late, but what about in the UK? According to market research firm Kantar Worldpanel, Microsoft and Nokia’s gambit may be paying off: Windows Phone 7 has outsold Symbian handsets for the first time, and the Nokia Lumia 800 is proving popular across Europe too.
According to the research, 2.5% of UK consumers bought a Windows Phone handset compared to 2.4% for Symbian over a three month period that ended on February 19th. Not only that, but the Nokia Lumia 800 accounted for 87% of all Windows Phone sales in Europe. Windows Phone apparently does best in Germany, with it accounting for 3.1% of the market.

MPAA may use retained Megaupload data for more suits
Like UnlikeThe Motion Picture Association of America wants Megaupload’s hosting service to retain a whopping 25 PB of customer data that is stored on its servers. It’s allegedly costing the host, Carpathia based in Virginia, about $9000 each day to store the massive amount of user data. The MPAA’s court filing shows that Hollywood may use that store data in suits of other organizations associated with Megaupload.
The MPAA says that it has no plans to sue individual users based on their personal data. The organization claims that it wants to consider suing Megaupload or “other entities” involved with the site. Carpathia has petitioned the courts to relieve it of the $9000 daily charge for managing all t...

Acer Iconia Tab A510 with Tegra 3, Android 4.0 arriving in the US and Canada for $450
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsAcerICONIA TAB A510-10k32u
The curious thing about the Acer Iconia Tab A510 is that it's been out in the open for months -- we've even handled it -- but for whatever reason, Acer's never publicly acknowledged it as the successor to last year's A500. When we got hands-on at CES, for example, it wasn't at Acer's suite, but NVIDIA's booth (this is Acer's first Tegra 3 tablet, don'tcha know). Well, the company's finally ready to come out and say, "Yes, we made this thing." The A510 is up for pre-order today in the US and Canada, with a price of $450. Though you can get it in black or white, it's available in one 32GB configuration for now. To recap, this is a quad-core slate with 1GB of RAM, a 10.1-inch (1280 x 800) displ...

Does Apple's New iPad Really Have a Heat Issue?
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsAppleiPad 3
Apple CEO Tim Cook talked a lot about the post-PC era when introducing the new iPad tablet, but if reports are true that the device tops 100F in some situations, and you're male, you may want to steer clear of resting it on your lap, lest you fry your little swimmers and we start talking about the post-human race era. Or not. Conflicting reports abound on just how hot the new iPad gets.
Consumer Reports kicked things off by claiming it recorded temperatures as high as 116 degrees Fahrenheit on the front and rear of the new iPad while playing Infinity Blade II for 45 minutes. Ambient room temperature was a controlled 72 degrees, well below Apple's upper threshold recommendation of 95 degrees.

Nokia files US patent for vibrating magnetic tattoo
Like UnlikeFiled in: NOKIA
Nokia has filed an application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for a magnetic vibrating tattoo that would alert the bearer of various activity that needs attention on their wireless handset. The idea is that the inked person wouldn’t have to interrupt others with a buzzing cell phone in a quiet environment or alternatively, wouldn’t miss an important call in a very loud setting.
The process would involve an individual being tattooed with ferromagnetic inks that react to magnetic fields. The inks would first have to be demagnetized, then the user would have a tattoo applied with said ink (just like any other tattoo) and finally, the ink would have to be remagnetized afterwards by br...

Nvidia GeForce GTX 680 shows up for $579.99, then disappears
Like UnlikeFiled in: Graphic CardsnVIDIAGeForce GTX 680
While Nvidia's GeForce GTX 680 Kepler graphics card still hasn't gotten an official announcement from the company, we're seeing a flurry of price speculation in anticipation of the card's release. Computer chain NCIX has been spotted posting product pages for the card (both MSI and EVGA varieties), listing it at $579.99 and letting customers add it to their wish lists, though the pages have since been taken down. In addition to the price, the pages also indicated that the MSI card will be running at 1056Mhz and include 2GB of GDDR5 video memory clocked at 6GHz. While the EVGA version's listing didn't include graphics processor or video RAM clock speeds, the SuperClocked branding indicates th...

US bill calls for cigarette-style warning signs on games
Like UnlikeTwo members of the US House of Representatives have created a bill calling for cigarette packet-style warnings to be added to video games covers. In the United States, at least.
Joe Baca and Frank Wolf have created The Violence in Video Games Labeling Act which, if passed, will force games companies to prominently display a label stating: "WARNING: Exposure to violent video games has been linked to aggressive behaviour."
The two Representatives believe that there is increasing evidence that exposure to violent video games has a long-lasting, serious impact to children and that all titles should carry a health warning.
