In addition to outlining its plans in Dutch on Facebook, Sony Ericsson has clarified its stance on bringing Ice Cream Sandwich to the Xperia-toting masses on its blog today. As if you haven’t been obsessively reading up on the update already, I’ll go ahead and mention a few new features including flexible widgets, Roboto font, the ability to take screen shots, revamped notifications and facial unlock. Luckily, if your phone came out in 2011 and it has “Xperia” in the name, Ice Cream Sandwich is headed your way.
Here’s the official statement:
There have been a few questions here on the blog and in our support forums regarding our upgrade plans beyond Gingerbread. We can today confirm that we ...

Our friends across the pond have had a month's head start getting to know Sony Ericsson's Xperia arc S inside and out. Now, it appears that refreshed flagship's gearing up to hit stateside as early as this week in unlocked fashion. Shown as having an estimated November 15th ship date on Sony's site, the 4.2-inch Gingerbread handset brings its Mobile Bravia Engine display, 1.4GHz Qualcomm processor and 8 megapixel shooter to North American mitts for $499 in four distinct shades. If carrier subsidization is your preferred method of purchase, you'll have to hold off for a bit as official US plans have yet to be announced. But why wait? UK Deal: Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S now available with Orange's £20.50/month contract at Phones4U
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSony EricssonXperia arc S
Third-party phone retailer Phones4U has a great deal for the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S, offering the sexy smartphone for free with Orange’s 20.50 GBP per month plan. That money won’t get you too far though, but for some folks it could be a good enough solution – you get 200 voice minutes, 3,000 texts and 100MB of mobile data per month. Presuming you’re not calling a lot and rely mostly on Wi-Fi hotspots for mobile Internet, this plan could be just what you need. Otherwise — if you still want the Xperia arc S — you’ll have to pick some other plan with the phone.

Sony will pay €1.05 billion to de-Ericsson its mobile joint venture
Like UnlikeFiled in: SonySony Ericsson
Ericsson on Thursday announced that it has agreed to sell its stake in Sony Ericsson to Sony Corporation for €1.05 billion in cash. The deal is in line with earlier reports. Sony will become the sole owner of the mobile company, and it will integrate Sony Ericsson devices into its “broad platform of network-connected consumer electronics products.” The deal also includes a cross-licensing and ownership agreement agreement whereby Sony will have access to a number of related patents. “This acquisition makes sense for Sony and Ericsson, and it will make the difference for consumers, who want to connect with content wherever they are, whenever they want. With a vibrant smartphone business and b...

Ericsson to sell its stake in Sony Ericsson, Sony becoming the sole owner
Like UnlikeFiled in: SonySony Ericsson
Ericsson has announced that it's selling its part of the joint Swedish-Japanese venture Sony Ericsson for $1.47 billion (1.05 billion euros). The Japanese Sony Corporation will become the sole owner of the phone maker in an attempt to boost its mobile portfolio.
"Sony will acquire Ericsson's 50 per cent stake in Sony Ericsson... making the mobile handset business a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sony," Ericsson said. The decision has already passed approval of both companies' boards, but it's, of course, yet to pass regulatory approval by January 2012. The deal evaluates the whole of Sony Ericsson at around $3.0 billion, almost four times less than what Google paid to acquire Motorola Mobility.

Sony Ericsson Forces Xperiablog.net Fan Site to Shut Down
Like UnlikeFiled in: Sony Ericsson
Seriously, Sony Ericsson, it’s a miracle you have any fan sites these days and you just want to shut them down? Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that you don’t make halfway decent phones – the Xperia Arc is OK, but how’s that stacking up against the Galaxy S II, Galaxy Nexus, DROID RAZR or the HTC Sensation series? Instead of shutting down fan communities like Xperiablog.net, and ultimately turning them into your enemies, you should embrace them. They’re the small handful of die-hard fans you have left, really.

Sony Ericsson confirmed that all of its 2011 smartphones will get Android 4.0. The Dutch arm of the Swedish-Japanese handset maker turned to Facebook to announce the news, which will affect a number of devices such as Xperia Play, neo, neo V, mini, mini pro, Ray, Pro, active, arc and arc S. In other words, the new Android Ice Cream Sandwich is optimized enough to be able to run on phones with a single-core 1GHz processor or at least Sony Ericsson thinks so. The company will first release Gingerbread 2.3.4 updates, though.

Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSony Ericsson
ony Ericsson posted its Q3 2011 financial results today, and while the numbers were better than those of the previous quarter, the company is still down from where it was last year. Sony Ericsson's CEO Bert Nordberg stated that the company's focus for 2012 will be entirely on smartphones, and that it will not longer offer feature phone models.
According to the figures, Sony Ericsson's Q3 sales were 33 percent higher than Q2 2011, with 9.5 million units shipped and 1.586 billion EUR (US$2.18 billion) in sales. Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSony EricssonXperia arc S
Three UK is offering the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S for free on a two-year 25 GBP per month contract. That deal gets you the carrier’s Text 500 plan, which comes with 500 voice minutes, 5,000 text messages along with a single gig of mobile data every month. Of course, you can upgrade and grab the more expensive “all you can eat” plan that costs just 3 GBP more (28 GBP per month) that give you unlimited of everything. Sony seeking to buy out Ericsson in joint venture
Like UnlikeFiled in: Sony Ericsson
Sony is reportedly ready to buy out Ericsson in the Sony Ericsson joint venture and will take a stronger role in controlling its mobile future, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Sony Ericsson was created in 2001 as a 50-50 joint venture between Sony and the infrastructure giant Ericsson and it has had some moderate success, particularly in the feature phone department with its cool Walkman series. The company has been very slow to adjust to the smartphone world though, as even its CEO has said it should have taken the iPhone more seriously.
The buyout would give Sony full control of the mobile phone company, including the mobile patent portfolio and the move could cost up to $1.7 billion...

Sony Ericsson lends hand to FreeXperia devs, shows love for CyanogenMod 7.1
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSony Ericsson
Turns out, Sony Ericsson is really coming around to the understanding that Android phones are not a one-size-fits-all proposition. After taking notice of the FreeXperia team's tireless efforts to bring CyanogenMod 7.1 to certain SE devices, the company is now "pulling a Samsung" by lending its support to the cause. The firm has provided the group with approximately 20 phones, along with debugged and rebuilt camera library binaries to ensure a proper user experience. Not stopping there, Sony Ericsson hopes to make these bits available to all developers under a special EULA in the near future. Of course, the company continues to remind its users that it doesn't specifically condone unlocking t...
