White Samsung Galaxy W caught in the wild

White Samsung Galaxy W caught in the wild

Posted on Sep 01, 2011 by MG1

Of all the new Android phones Samsung has recently announced, it seems the Galaxy W will be their biggest seller, with Three UK already adding it to its “Coming Soon” pages. Specs wise, it sits somewhere between the original Galaxy S and Galaxy S II, though boasting a smaller 3.7-inch screen. In that sense, I guess the W is made for people who think phones with 4-inch and bigger displays are too bulky to carry around. I can understand the argument, though I don’t agree with it completely.
Anyway, the news is that in addition to the “default” black version, Sammy’s “W”onder phone will also be available in white, or at least the image above suggests so. I like white phones and can see the Kor...

Sprint Galaxy S II (Epic 4G Touch) outed before announcement

Sprint Galaxy S II (Epic 4G Touch) outed before announcement

Posted on Aug 31, 2011 by MG1

We’re only a few hours away until Samsung takes the stage and announces the Galaxy S II for the US of A. Just in case you needed a little more confirmation before the official announcement, some slides of the Epic 4G Touch have appeared in a Samsung online training manual.
We already knew that T-Mobile’s version of the GSII, the Hercules, would get a screen bump to 4.5 inches from 4.3, and it looks like the Sprint variant will also gain a couple of fractions of an inch. According to the training slides, the screen is actually 4.52 inches of Super AMOLED Plus goodness, and we’re just fine with that.
The Galaxy S II is Samsung most popular phone to date, selling over five million units before ...

Samsung Vitality with Muve Music serenades itself to Cricket

Samsung Vitality with Muve Music serenades itself to Cricket

Posted on Aug 31, 2011 by MG1

If you remember the Samsung Admire at MetroPCS, then the manufacturer's Vitality handset will look mighty familiar. It's coming to Cricket and will join the Suede (a feature phone) as the network's only smartphone with Muve Music. Like the Admire, it features an 800MHz CPU, 3.5-inch HVGA touchscreen, a 3.2MP camera and runs stock Gingerbread. While its price and release date remain elusive, we're told the requisite plan will ring in at $65 per month -- a spendy leap for the network that goes chirp in the night. Perhaps that's the rub when you combine an Android plan with unlimited song downloads, ringtones and ringback tones. Hey, nobody ever said it'd be cheap to be law-abiding.

Samsung “Omnia W” to have a 1.4 Ghz processor, NFC?

Samsung “Omnia W” to have a 1.4 Ghz processor, NFC?

Posted on Aug 31, 2011 by MG1

SamFirmware, who is a good source of pre-release Samsung ROMs, have just tweeted that Samsung’s new Windows Phone 7 handset will feature a 1.4 Ghz processor and support NFC.
They also mention the device has a 3.7 inch screen, making it likely they are talking about the rumoured Samsung Omnia W, which according to earlier leaks have a 512 Mb RAM, 3.7 inch screen, and 5 megapixel camera, decidedly low-end specs for 2011, not to mention 2012.
Having a 1.4 Ghz processor and NFC will go some way to make up for it, and if it is wrapped up in a sleek and slim shell it may well be a worthy successor for the Samsung Omnia 7 after all.

Samsung Wave M is now official, runs bada 2.0 and wants to socialize

Samsung Wave M is now official, runs bada 2.0 and wants to socialize

Posted on Aug 31, 2011 by MG1

The Samsung Wave M is one of the three new smartphones that the manufacturer unveiled today and sits nicely in between the newly introduced flagship of the bada 2.0 family – the Wave 3, and the entry-level Wave Y handset. All three devices are being made official only days before the start of IFA 2011 in Berlin where all three of them are expected to be shown off in person.
We are looking at a smartphone built mostly with social networking in mind, which is why the Samsung Wave M comes equipped with Samsung's very own messaging system, ChatON. Social Hub also comes out of the box so that you can easily keep track of what mischief your buddies are up to. However, the most important software a...

Samsung Wave Y: bada 2.0 for the masses

Samsung Wave Y: bada 2.0 for the masses

Posted on Aug 31, 2011 by MG1

The Samsung Wave Y, the last and most affordable of the three waves that splashed the cell phone industry is officially here, with bada 2.0 showing off on a 3.2-inch HVGA LCD screen. Spec-wise, it’s similar to its older brother, the Samsung Wave M, as it packs an equally powerful 832MHz CPU and 150MB of internal memory extendible via a microSD card of up to 32GB.
The Samsung Wave Y however has cut some corners to be the most affordable in the trio and those are mostly in the photographic department. The basic 2-megapixel fixed-focus camera recording HVGA videos at 30fps on the handset is a significant downgrade from the 5-megapixel auto-focus shooters on the Samsung Wave 3 and Wave M. The p...

Samsung officially announces cross-platform ChatON messaging service

Posted on Aug 30, 2011 by MG1

Filed in: Samsung

Samsung's entry into the already-crowded group messaging market, ChatON, was revealed earlier today, and now the company has made it official. ChatON will allow users to communicate with each other using text messages, group chats, and image and video sharing. It works across platforms, so users of Samsung's bada platform can communicate with those on Android, iOS, or BlackBerry - and vice-versa.
Samsung is also releasing a feature-phone version of ChatON that will let users of simpler phones get in on the fun, too, though with limited functionality compared to the smartphone versions. A web-based ChatON client is also in the works, so users can participate in chats from their PCs.

Press shots of the Samsung Epic Touch 4G leak with the September 9 date on the homescreen

Posted on Aug 30, 2011 by MG1

A press shot leaked of the Samsung Epic Touch 4G - Sprint's version of the acclaimed Samsung Galaxy S II, likely to be unveiled in New York tomorrow, together with the other US carrier versions of the handset.
Sprint's Samsung Epic Touch 4G date on the leaked pictures is set at September 9 on the homescreen, which might mean hitting the shelves officially on that day, 10 days after the announcement. This 9/9 date also suspiciously coincides with the rumored ETF hike from $200 to $350 for "advanced devices" which will be activated on or after September 9.
Finally, after the February announcement and April availability worldwide, Samsung seems to have ironed out the kinks with the US carriers,...

Samsung said to be considering webOS acquisition from HP

Samsung said to be considering webOS acquisition from HP

Posted on Aug 30, 2011 by MG1

Following rumors that Samsung was considering a purchase of Hewlett-Packard’s PC business — rumors that Samsung would later deny — DigiTimes is having another go at this potential unholy union. This time around, however, the site claims Samsung is eying HP’s webOS platform instead of its PC business. DigiTimes on Monday reported that Samsung has hired HP’s ex-vice president of PSG marketing Raymond Wah to head up Samsung’s PC business. The report goes on to claim that Samsung is also “considering purchasing webOS to compete head on against Apple and Google, according to sources from notebook players.” The South Korea-based electronics giant is clearly having issues with Android right now. De...
