Samsung Gives Portability Another Try with Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsSamsungGalaxy Tab 7.0 Plus
The original 7-inch Galaxy Tab wasn't all that impressive. It was a premature release with an inadequate SoC running a version of Android intended for smartphones, not tablets. Since then Samsung has put forth some of the most impressive Honeycomb based tablet designs with its Galaxy Tab 10.1 and 8.9. Today, Samsung is expanding the lineup to include a new 7-inch tablet: the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus.

Consumers Show Interest in Smart TVs
Like UnlikeFiled in: TVsSonySamsungVIZIO
Smart TVs have been a recent addition to the consumer market. They provide internet access to users without the need for an external computer or having only limited access to websites. Today, a study conducted by the Consumer Decision Process stated that 10% of the broadband households that they reviewed stated that they plan to purchase a new Smart TV before the end of 2011. This number has grown from the 6% of households who stated they would in the first half of the year. The households interviewed represent about 50% of the nearly one-fourth of U.S broadband households planning to purchase a flat-panel TV. “Advertising campaigns from manufacturers such as Sony, Samsung, and VIZIO have bo...

Samsung announced is Exynos 4212 processor on Thursday, a new dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 chip. Samsung said the 4212 offers a 25% increase in processing power, 50% higher 3D performance and “double the logic density and a 30% lower power-level over the previous process generation” chip, which currently powers most of its Galaxy S II smartphones. The Eynos 4212 will be used in both tablets and smartphones; currently, Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Galaxy Tab 8.9 run dual-core Tegra 2 chips from NVIDIA. The Exynos 4212 processor also supports 1080p HD video recording and playback. Samsung expects to begin sampling the Exynos 4212 during the fourth quarter of this year. The company also announced a...

Steve Jobs tried to end Apple's patent war with Samsung in 2010
Like UnlikeFiled in: SamsungApple
Steve Jobs made contact with Samsung in an effort to resolve a patent argument last year, Bloomberg reported on Thursday. However, Jobs did not participate in the discussions that eventually took place and deteriorated, Apple’s patent attorney Richard Lutton explained during a hearing in an Australian court. “Samsung is an important supplier with whom we have a deep relationship” Lutton said while being questioned by a Samsung lawyer. “We wanted to give them a chance to do the right thing.” Samsung and Apple are locked up in multiple patent battles around the globe. Samsung’s German arm has been banned from selling the Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet, its Australian branch cannot sell the device unti...

Samsung intros Exynos 4212, fast 64GB flash, mobile cameras
Like UnlikeFiled in: Samsung
Samsung used its self-run Mobile Solutions Forum to show a slew of new chip and memory technology. The headliner was its Exynos 4212. The dual-core chip is primarily a clock speed boost and jumps from 1.2GHz to 1.5GHz, helped in part by a new 32 nanometer process. While already seen in the Galaxy S II LTE, it's now known to have a new graphics core with 50 percent faster 3D rendering than the earlier chip.
The chip is in test sampling for third party companies in the fall, although Samsung is shipping the Galaxy S II LTE in Canada and South Korea as well as the HD LTE. Future phones like the Nexus Prime and future tablets should also get the processor.

T-Mobile supports Samsung in Apple patent battle
Like UnlikeFiled in: SamsungAppleT-Mobile
T-Mobile has filed with the federal courts to oppose Apple’s request for a preliminary US injunction on Samsung’s Galaxy products. The move is similar to what Verizon did last week, when it, too, sided with Samsung and filed with the courts to oppose the injunction request, citing possible negative effects to its 4G LTE network deployment. T-Mobile claims that an injunction on Samsung’s Galaxy products in the US would “unnecessarily harm” its business and its customers, especially since it is relying on the Samsung Galaxy S II and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 as two of its major product launches for this holiday season. The carrier further argues that there isn’t enough time to find comparabl...

Hack to enable internet sharing on the Samsung Omnia 7 now available
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungOmnia 7
Thanks to XDA-Developer member OndraSterthere is now a hack available to enable internet sharing on Samsung Omnia 7’s running Mango.
Interestingly the hack confirms Microsoft’s assertion about drivers, as the hack does not work on HTC handsets. The hack also reveals that there is vestigial support for Bluetooth tethering, but that this does not work.
The hack also disables the phone from checking for carrier provisioning for tethering, but this of course does not mean you will still not be charged.
The hack is a bit too complex to explain here, involving unlocking the handset, provisioning the device, replacing files and editing the registry, so really only for expert users.

Apple: Samsung cheated in 3G standardization
Like UnlikeFiled in: SamsungApple
Apple has accused Samsung of manipulating open telecom standards, failing to disclose patents the company holds on technologies it pushed the ETSI to adopt, and then attempting to hold Apple and others to ransom afterwards. Presenting its case at the preliminary Hague hearing this morning, Apple claims Samsung engineered the 3G standard so that it would include technologies the Korean company secretly held patents on, reports Webwereld‘s Andreas Udo de Haes, and is now demanding “simply excessive” royalties amounting to 2.4-percent of the chip price for every patent.

Samsung continues to build out its Galaxy family with the announcement of the Galaxy Tab 8.9, and Galaxy Player 4.0 and 5.0. We’ve been waiting on the 8.9 to debut for some time now, but we’re certainly glad to see Samsung finally bringing its media players to the U.S.
At this point in the game, Samsung is clearly the most successful Android player today. With its ever-growing Galaxy line of phones, tablets, and now media players, Samsung alone has been able to create a real brand behind the Android name unlike any other manufacturer today. That said, these efforts are also an attempt to take a bite out of Apple’s success. Sure, call the players (and every other Android tablet for that matte...
