Droid Bionic mod brings HDMI mirroring and Webtop to your car, please drive responsibly

Droid Bionic mod brings HDMI mirroring and Webtop to your car, please drive responsibly

Posted on Sep 21, 2011 by MG1

You're cruisin' in your sweet ride when all of a sudden you realize exactly what your set of wheels is missing: Webtop. While the vast majority of us may shrug off the thought, convincing ourselves that our 3.5mm jack or cassette player is plenty to keep us mindlessly entertained through the morning commute, one man with the know-how dared to be different. All of that blazing-fast LTE pumping out of his Droid Bionic was being wasted, after all, so why not outfit his car's AV setup with Webtop and HDMI mirroring capabilities to blast Netflix on his dash and multiple screens in the back for the kiddies? It's a clever mod, but we don't condone the use of Netflix whilst driving, of course; just ...

Motorola ATRIX 2 images and details revealed

Motorola ATRIX 2 images and details revealed

Posted on Sep 21, 2011 by MG1

BGR has just been given photos of the follow up to the original Motorola ATRIX 4G, the Motorola ATRIX 2, internally known as the Motorola Edison. The Motorola ATRIX 2 will not be an LTE device according to our source, though the phone will launch with a dual-core processor (either 1.2 or 1.5GHz TI OMAP, we’d assume), an 8-megapixel camera with 1080p HD video capture, and Android Gingerbread 2.3.5. We weren’t given a launch time-frame, though we’d expect the phone to touch down in the next few months, most likely around Thanksgiving. Check out all of the photos in our Motorola ATRIX 2 gallery!

Motorola's next Android tablet spotted, 7-inch display possible

Motorola's next Android tablet spotted, 7-inch display possible

Posted on Sep 20, 2011 by MG1

Filed in: TabletsMotorola

Motorola Mobility CEO Sanjay Jha has noted his company’s intentions to launch a 7-inch tablet a number of times, and images of the device may have just broken cover. This is my next leaked a photo of a white tablet on Monday that, if compared to the size of the unknown phone in the background, appears to sport a 7-inch form factor. A Motorola Mobility logo is slightly visible on the top-left of the tablet and there are two I/O ports on the bottom, presumably microUSB and HDMI-out. It is possible this is an Android Honeycomb tablet, although that is still unconfirmed. It is also still unclear when the tablet will be announced, if ever, or what kind of hardware it packs under the hood.

Motorola PHOTON 4G gets minor update to fix Wi-Fi issues

Motorola PHOTON 4G gets minor update to fix Wi-Fi issues

Posted on Sep 19, 2011 by MG1

This week, Sprint and Motorola have begun issuing another minor software update for the PHOTON 4G smartphone. The list of fixes in this update is rather short, with the only thing being mentioned are adjustments to Wi-Fi functionality. Users should get a notification when the update is ready to be downloaded and installed on their phones, or they can check the Software Updates section in the Settings app to see if it is available for download.

Android-powered Motorola Admiral caught posing for the camera

Android-powered Motorola Admiral caught posing for the camera

Posted on Sep 16, 2011 by MG1

We’ve already heard of the Motorola Admiral, though at that stage we didn’t have a clue how it will look like. Now we do, and as far as we can tell, it’s yet another QWERTY keyboard equipped candybar from Motorola. That said, we’re not sure another such device is needed in Sprint’s portfolio, considering they already offer the Motorola XPRT and Titanium. Guess the idea is to get some of the folks switching from BlackBerry to Android on board.
Anyway, you want to know the Admiral’s specs, right? It comes with a Qualcomm’s single-core 1.2GHz MSM8655 CPU, 3.1-inch VGA capacitive touchscreen, 5-megapixel camera with 720p HD video recording, CDMA-based Direct Connect capability, and a pretty soli...

UK Deal: Orange offers Motorola Atrix for 99 GBP on a 10 GBP/month plan

UK Deal: Orange offers Motorola Atrix for 99 GBP on a 10 GBP/month plan

Posted on Sep 16, 2011 by MG1

The Motorola Atrix is no longer a cool device everyone wants, though it’s still pretty solid smartphone with a 1GHz dual-core processor, HSPA and Wi-Fi connectivity, GPS, 4-inch qHD screen, 5-megapixel camera and so on. Orange UK is running a great deal, offering Moto’s baby for 99 GBP on a two-year 10 GBP per month contract. In other words, that’s 340 GBP for the life of the contract, making for an awesome purchase.
Of course you shouldn’t expect wonders with such a plan — it comes with only 30 minutes of talk time and unlimited texts. There’s also one additional caveat – Atrix ships with Android 2.2 Froyo and you’ll have to hack your way to Gingerbread if you want the latest features, or w...

Motorola haggled an extra $3 billion out of Google bid

Motorola haggled an extra $3 billion out of Google bid

Posted on Sep 15, 2011 by MG1

Filed in: MotorolaGoogle

According to a securities filing, Google’s initial unsolicited bid for Motorola was actually closer to $9 billion – a solid $3 billion less than the final $12 billion figure. The filing says Google’s first offer sat at $30/share on August 1, and after a bit of back-and-forth, Motorola got them up to $40/share on August 9. Motorola didn’t open up bidding publicly, because they figured they wouldn’t be getting any better offers, and if they failed to sell, it would look particularly bad.
Apparently Motorola’s main worry was fending off the deluge of intellectual propertylawsuits that would result from the acquisition, which is fair enough considering Google’s primary interest was in patents. W...

Google outbid itself by 33 percent in Motorola Mobility acquisition, SEC filing reveals

Google outbid itself by 33 percent in Motorola Mobility acquisition, SEC filing reveals

Posted on Sep 14, 2011 by MG1

Filed in: MotorolaGoogle

Google's acquisition of Motorola Mobility is already starting to lose that new car smell, but a fresh batch of financial details has now emerged, providing deeper insight into how the deal actually went down. According to an SEC filing that Motorola Mobility released yesterday, Google made an initial offer of $30 per share on August 1st, but soon raised that bid to $37 per share on August 9th, after Moto and its advisers asked for $43.50. On that same day, Google again raised its offer to $40 per share, even though Motorola wasn't accepting bids from other firms, for fear that a public auction would jeopardize its sale. This 33 percent increase ultimately added some $3 billion to the pot, br...

Apple wants to press pause on patent suits, calls Motorola a lame duck

Apple wants to press pause on patent suits, calls Motorola a lame duck

Posted on Sep 14, 2011 by MG1

Filed in: AppleMotorola

In what could turn out to be a very expensive lesson in minding one's mouth, Apple plans to use Google's and Motorola's own words against them in court. Over the weekend, Cupertino's lawyers filed two motions to stay in patent-related litigation with Moto, claiming the OEM's pending merger renders its patent suits indefensible. According to Apple's legal team, the proposed Motorola Mobility acquisition effectively transfers patent control over to Google, an allegation that public-facing statements from both companies seem to corroborate. Citing the potential waste of resources and probable reversal of future pre-merger settlements, the house that Jobs built is hoping to hold off on the court...

Apple files motions for temporarily disabling Motorola to sue it because of the Google buyout

Apple files motions for temporarily disabling Motorola to sue it because of the Google buyout

Posted on Sep 14, 2011 by MG1

Apple, banking on the ambiguity of who exactly should be suing it for patent infringement after Google's acquisition of Motorola, filed motions to halt the lawsuits that Motorola started against it.
The first case should be starting in April of next year, and by that time it's still not clear if the deal will have passed all regulatory scrutiny and paperwork.
"Apple should not have to face the threat of an injunction based on the claims of a party that now has no standing to bring those claims.", say Cupertino's lawyers, and "Apple will be expending enormous resources litigating claims against a party that does not have standing".
How does Motorola, which is still an independent company unti...

Motorola DROID BIONIC - was it worth the wait

Motorola DROID BIONIC - was it worth the wait

Posted on Sep 14, 2011 by MG1

You know what this expression means. In the field of mobile technology, we would use it to signify our admiration to a particular product or service that seems to be ahead of its time. In this relation, the Motorola DROID BIONIC, announced on January 5, seemed like a smartphone that was too good to be true, with its ubiquitous spec sheet, which almost magically combined all that was considered trendy and cool at the time.
Back at CES 2011, the DROID BIONIC made one helluva splash, with its promise to be the first handset to deliver both 4G LTE connectivity and a dual-core CPU, which would enhance the overall experience of using the phone, presumably surpassing anything we've seen up to this ...

Are you a US Cellular customer who is feeling a little left out from the lack of new Motorolahandsets on the carrier? Fret no more, good chum, as the Motorola Electrify has just been announced, which is essentially the Photon 4G. The dual-core toting Android phone will land on the sixth largest carrier in the nation later this month and give you more power in your hands than you know what to do with.
We’d be lying if we said the Photon 4G is our favorite smartphone around but it may sound like a dream come true to US Cellular customers. The handset sports a 4.3 inch in qHD display, 1GHz dual-core processor, and 8 megapixel camera with dual-LED flash. The press release makes no mention of th...

Motorola readying own Facebook phone

Motorola readying own Facebook phone

Posted on Sep 09, 2011 by MG15

Motorola looks like it's going to be the next to join the Facebook phone race with the launch of a dedicated handset.

The snappily-named Motorola EX225 has been outed over on the Bluetooth accreditation site Bluetooth SIG, and shows a simple QWERTY-keyboarded device with a little blue Facebook key in the corner.

There aren't any Android buttons on show, so Motorola has either developed its own OS to power the device, or gone with something more widespread like Qualcomm's Brew - unless the company is still working out where to place the Android keys.
